Edit: Haha... didn't see the next page...

I think someone said around 1500 from 6-7k applicants...

Thank you! I am sure this has been answered, but I couldnt find it:

Does anyone know how many secondaries are given out?

Do we know what they screen to give out secondaries? Just numbers or the rest of the app too?

I'm pretty sure that in most cases they screen on more than just numbers. That's why it sometimes can take months to receive a secondary invite. That's not to say that some people won't get screened in by extremely high stats, but in my experience UCSF gives a more holistic review.

Thanks for the response. I got secondary on the same day when I submitted my primary, but nothing since August 10th when I submitted the 2nd. I am just being neurotic and trying to figure out what goes on behind the black box. I wonder what it means when some applicants hear back so soon while some hear back much later if they did (regarding both 2nd and II). Doesn't seem to correlate that much with when you submit.

Rejected. >3.7, >33 MCAT, IS. Complete 8/01/12.

Good luck to those still in the running!

WOOO! Verified 8/31. Got Secondary today! There's still hope 😀

OMG that's awesome! I was verified a week later than you, so maybe I can still get one too... thanks for sharing!!

I submitted my primary application in late September. Is that a significant disadvantage for UCSF?

It's a significant disadvantage at not only UCSF but at any school for that matter. With that said, you still have a chance of being accepted. Good luck.

Not sure if this has been answered, but when people say they were complete, did SF actually send out an email saying you were complete? I dont remember ever getting one? s-submitted 7/20, and searched my email, but found no complete email, status says, secondary submitted.

Thanks

I received an e-mail saying that my secondary had been submitted successfully, but I don't believe I received an additional e-mail saying I was complete.

Interview! OOS, 30R, 3.9/3.56, complete early August. My best friend had to call me to keep me from crying.

Should be expecting word from UCSF now that people started to :/

Verified mid-August and still waiting on a secondary...

I know - I was pretty surprised to see that. I guess they screen heavily both pre-secondary and pre-interview. Anyway, here's the admissions data from last year:

Overall: 277 offers out of 486 interviewees (56.9%)
In-state: 188 offers out of 331 interviewees (56.8%)
Out of state: 89 offers out of 155 interviewees (57.4%)

:xf::xf::xf::xf:

Omg, I can't wait.

:luck::luck::luck:

They won't let you know until late December at the earliest so you're going to have to wait quite a bit longer!

Did they recently give out any post secondary rejections?

So I was rejected pre secondary in August. I was just notified about the appeal process and was wondering if I should bother. I have a 3.85/3.85 36Q OOS. What do you guys think?

Do you ever wonder that maybe you weren't rejected because of your stats?

edit:

But hey, if UCSF was my dream school and I got rejected, I'd do all I could to get back in their favor, appeal included. So give it a shot

Actually, that's exactly what I was pondering. I called the admissions office to see if they would give me feedback, after refusing they just said "Why don't you appeal". So now I'm exploring the option.

Thanks for your input. I guess it couldn't hurt to appeal, even though it's unlikely to make a difference.

such unrequited love. i've gone mad checking the status page every hour. bring me home, ucsf!!!!

submitted secondary mid-Sept. the wait time between post-secondary complete and interview invite or rejection is miserable

I looked thru the entire thread. Is it just me or did UCSF not throw out too many Interview invites yet? Doesn't seem like a lot of SDNers received II yet besides a handful of people...

It seems like there are more rejections so far than II's.

UCSF has a heavy interview screen so they'll only give out ~500 interviews.

It's been two months since I submitted secondary. Nothing. At this point not sure if a quick rejection is better or more waiting...

~1500 secondary invites and ~500 interview invites. So statistically speaking, each one of us who has received secondaries have roughly a 33% chance of getting an II. So...the more people who gets rejected, the more likely the rest of us who has yet to hear back will get an interview invite  statistically speaking of course.....anyway, just an observation.

Nice observation, I guess that should provide some solace for those still in the running. But this is assuming on SDN we are getting an accurate representation of those who are invited and rejected so far. I wonder if people who are rejected are more likely to report on here over those who have been invited for any reason? Sorry I am just being super duper neurotic.

I'm not sure about that, every other school thread has a mass of people claiming interviews...

Or: UCSF applicants are just more humble 😀

Or the ones that got invited to interviews don't go on SDN. I know of three people personally who got interviews at UCSF and already went. None of them have an SDN account.

How do you know they aren't blowing smoke up your caboose?

There are a fair number of us that have interviewed though.

Yah. but II's in this thread is nothing comparing to a lot of other threads. So I feel like they havn't handed out as many II's as many other schools. If there are ~500 spots for II's, I'd guess they havn't fill up more than 200 of those spots yet.

Congrats! This still gives me some hope. Did you just receive the email today?

I did just receive the email today. It's been a while but everyone who hasn't been rejected is still definitely in the running regardless of complete date.

Anyone who has interviewed here, please shed light on the atmosphere.
