Anyone who has interviewed here, please shed light on the atmosphere.

It's amazing! The classic laid back nor cal environment and demeanor is evident in both faculty and students. They make you feel so wanted and don't try to sell the school to you at all, which somehow really sells it to you because the facilities and everything are all top notch and worthy of their reputation. They basically throw heaps of praise at you and really build you up so much that you feel like you need to go somewhere like that. If they accept me in December I'd go in a heartbeat.

I want to add a +3 to this! I loved this school and the entire interview experience and I feel incredibly blessed that I got to interview here. #1 choice =)

After the long wait, just got rejected pre-secondary (8/20 submitted). It was so sad that even the rejection PDF failed to load 🙁

Just got rejected *sigh* 🙁

Secondary submitted 7/18, LORs went out 8/15.
sGPA 3.6, cGPA 3.7; 36. IS, non-URM

Dang sorry to hear that guys. After seeing both these posts, I checked my mail and I think my heart stopped beating as I waited for the inbox to refresh. Luckily, no rejections or any other emails for that matter. Hopefully everyone else is still in the runnings :xf:(no offense bros)

For the obsessive stat checkers like me:

II received, actually on Sun, 10/14 but I've been too excited to post. Didn't want to jinx it, but there you go. Definitely one of my very top choices!! So excited! 😀

Submitted secondary: 7/31. In-state. GPA: 3.7-3.9. MCAT: low 30s.

Ouch - sorry bud. I guess mine is coming soon then.. I was verified 9/6.

How have the rejections been sent out? Email? Are most of these pre-secondary so far?

Checked his post history. I think he got rejected a month ago, post-secondary

They send out II's on sundays?!

Long-time lurker on this thread. I just wanted to let the cosmos know that I REALLY REALLY REALLY would love an interview here. I work here, and even just asked the head of my department to write a letter for me (I have room to submit one more LOR), but am worried I'll get the ax before the letter gets there.

I swear I've checked my status at least 4 times today.... silly. Been complete since the first week of August. *sigh*

This rejection hurt the most. Rejected on 10/12, post-secondary, couldn't admit it even to myself until now. Don't know why, there's no shame in getting rejected here, but still hurts a lot to lose that dream.

Same thing with me and Dartmouth Geisel

Sorry to hear man. May I ask when you completed your UCSF secondary? Or did you mean your dartmouth rejection?

I hope more letters than the maximum amount (specifically, 7) are not detrimental to my chances. For some reason, I just noticed the 3-5 limit for ucsf. :scared:

I'm sure they'll just randomly select 5 to look at. Probably the only hurt there is that you might not have your 'best' letter read. :luck:

I was referring to Dartmouth post-secondary rejection - just that it was my top choice. I have yet to hear back from UCSF, was complete I think 8/21/12.

Got my secondary today. OOS. Verified 9/17... took them long enough! I was certain I wasn't getting one.

That feel when you log on to check your status 10x a day and finally on that 10th time you see "Interview Invite"

Hey guys, thanks a lot. As for the completion, I actually just had a "?" next to the date in my mdapps because I had no idea and just made it up lol. I never received any notification at all.

As for the invite, if anyone's wondering, there was no email, just a status update. So if you check it as often as I did/do, you might be in for a surprise!

Good luck guys :xf:

You'll get an e-mail tomorrow. Same thing happened to me. Congrats again! =)

^
Hah thanks and congrats to you as well. I have a feeling that email will get my hopes up tomorrow.

You guys ever check your inbox with one eye closed and the other eye squinted, just enough so that you can see that you have a new email, but it's too blurry to see what it says? Yeah, that's me. And if that happens tomorrow, and it turns out to be UCSF, then I'm gonna have a bad time.

At least when it says something about checking a PDF for your new status update you won't be tripping balls like I was. I woke up thinking I was going to be rejected! PS Now you really don't belong in the panic thread

They post a PDF for everyone both invited for interview and rejection?

Congrats Fivo! I see you submitted your secondary on 9/9? So they're finally working on september folks now!

I don't remember if it's a PDF, but you get an email titled UCSF School of Medicine Status Update and it says

Dear ____,

An update has been made to the status of your UCSF School of Medicine application. Please visit your Application Status page for more information.

Please do not reply to this email address. If you have any questions or need additional information, please visit our website. Any replies to this email address will not be read.

I was tripping out!

No. From what I recall, it was just an extension of the status page with a calendar for you to choose a date. No pdf.

oh alright. thanks. now this is making me anxious. Submitted 9/26. They will probably get to mine within the next week or two..

why would you want to go to dartmouth over UCSF. Isnt UCSF a top medical school while dartmouth isnt even in the top 30?

Not everyone decides 4+ years of their life based on a number from a for-profit magazine.

There are other factors in deciding where to choose to go for med school. Location is a huge factor, I think. Dean Wofsy told us during our interview day that they accept close to 30-40% OOS of all interviewers but the incoming class is only composed of 20% OOS. Most people choose to stay closer to their personal support groups (i.e. family, significant others, etc.). Personally, if I can't see myself living in a city comfortably, it doesn't matter what rank/prestige the school has, I will probably go with a different school. It's all about 'the fit' 🙂

He said 50% on my interview day! Maybe he found out the numbers were wrong later and toned it down a notch haha a few of the people at my interview day said UCSF was no where near their top choice though so fingers crossed!

Hah! Well sure enough, it just happened. I refreshed my email, saw 2 new bolded emails, got extremely excited (since I expected UCSF's status update tomorrow), and it turns out that both of them are from UCSF

And as for the panic thread, I still don't feel out of the clear, hah! While thankful that I'm fortunate enough to be in a good position, sometimes I swear I just think the worst. So until that acceptance lands on my doorstep, I'm going to be panicking every single day :meanie:

Also, can anyone shed some light on what happens toward the end of the interview day? They say the day should end around 5pm but also recommends not to schedule an outbound flight before 8pm. Do you guys know why that is?

Sf rush hour traffic peaks around five and everyone tries to leave the city which means you're almost better off walking than driving to sfo. Also security at that airport takes forever! It took me 45 minutes at five am on a Monday morning. Nothing special happens at the end of the day, but student interviews are at the end so maybe they might run long? Also not everyone finishes at the same time. My student interview was over before some people's began.

It takes a while to get to the airport. You'll have to take the BART to the airport, which can add up to 30-60 minutes depending if you're going to SFO or Oakland (if it's Oakland, then you'll have to take airbart to the airport from the Colosseum) . The interviews (both closed file) are both in the afternoon, so basically, when you finish your interviews, you are free to leave. Most people in my group left by 4:30 but there were some that were there a little later.

My AMCAS was verified over a month ago, but I'm an OOS applicant. No secondary yet. 36/3.8 stats. Would it hurt to give admissions a call?

just piggybacking off that question my secondary has been in for more than 2 months now. would calling admissions make any difference?

Just saw some kids in black suits walking around with their interview packets here. *Sigh*. Why can't that be me? Done 8/8, so it's looking more and more far fetched now.

Your MDApps says your interview invite came in on the 26th...but today's the 24th...

...

You're a time traveler! 😱
