Nope - status still the same. Really hoping not to hear back today though since it seems like it wouldn't be good news! But who knows.

Also pointless speculation: usually news from UCSF comes later in the day, like 3-5 pm EST for the previous round of acceptances.

yea it seems there weren't any news today--bad or good

Anyone know what percentage of medical students receive scholarships/grants (need or merit-based)?

I hear that everyone receives a small amount of free money. Is this right?

Do any current students have an answer to this? And how long does it take to receive a preliminary award after completing the financial aid applications? (Does it change much compared to your finalized award?)

Thanks guys for any help!

Just actually called financial aid about this. Apparently, a really high percentage of students qualify for need-based scholarships that start at a minimum of $6500 a year. (I mentioned I have an EFC of about 10,000 and the financial aid representative said I had a really high chance of receiving at least the minimum need-based scholarship). Hearing this was very good news. Also, they said that they will do there best to try to have financial aid packages before Admit student weekend (April 27-28).

And from what I understand/assume, this package will be the finalized package. You will need to have submitted all documents (FAFSA, CSS, IDOC, UCSF app, etc.) to receive this information in the first place. SInce no new information is required after this, there is no reason that it shouldn't stay the same.

Great, thanks a lot. That sounds very reassuring. Also, I just noticed you listed second look as April 27-28th, I thought it was only on the 27th. Is it actual a two-day event? Thanks for your help!

I think we got accepted during the same round--have you already been able to submit the UCSF financial aid application? I'm not able to log in even though the acceptance packet said you had to apply for financial aid within two weeks. I heard that you have to receive a letter from financial aid before you can register. Have you received that?

Yes I have submitted all of the required forms listed in my previous post. I received the UCSF financial aid letter in the first week of February. I think everyone who interviewed (including waitlisters) received this letter during this time. I highly recommend calling the financial aid to see if they can resend it. I can't locate the letter at the moment but I think they just basically give the link to the financial aid website ( https://dp.ucsf.edu/idp/Authn/UserPassword ) in which you make an account and follow the instructions to complete the forms.

Weird. I called last week and the person said they hadn't sent a letter yet and that it was normal not to have received it. I remember people on the waitlist saying they'd received that letter in Feb, but I never did. Did you set up your account from that link by clicking 'Get MyAccess" and then entering your email? When I tried it sent me an email with the message "MyAccess is unable to verify your email address in the campus directory: http://directory.ucsf.edu." I guess I'll call again on Monday, but I'm so confused...😕

Weird! did you use the email address on your AMCAS?

Accepted!!!

I thought they'd forgotten about me. Interview 12/13.

yay...just got accepted (by email; interviewed in early jan)... now waiting for the MSTP decision.

😍😍😍😍😍😍

OH H** YES! Got in! Top choice. Seriously could not be more excited! Interviewed 01/23.

are you guys the last batch for decisions? I ask because i wonder when waitlist usually moves.

Congrats, man!! You are killing it right now! What do you think you're leaning towards, if anything?

Mount Sinai, with Columbia a close second. Curious to see how finances turn out. My wife and I are currently prepping for a NYC move

That said, I thought UCSF rejected me based on timing so I had written it off in my mind. So now I will look again with an open mind.

Congrats everyone! I wonder if they have sent out any acceptances for feb interviewees... Or will we be in the next round?? Is there a next round??

Congrats future classmates and goodluck to everyone still making decisions.

Got in!!!!!!!!! Waitlisted at HMS, but there's no way I'm staying in the east coast anymore! SOOOOO Happy!! Hard decisions lie ahead, but hopefully the financial aid packages will tell me what's up! Congrats to all and to all a good night. Amazing day!

admitted! interviewed 1.8.2013. email received 6:31 pm EST.

How do we access the myaccess ucsf online fin aid app? And when's second look?? Excited to meet everyone!! Thanks in advance!

You should be receiving your acceptance package in the mail if you haven't already. The info and your log-in is inside the packet. Second look is supposed to be April 27th, per the notification in the acceptance package, however, Calbears made an earlier post regarding the 27th and 28th, so I'm not so sure now.

Congrats to everyone!! This must be such an amazing day for you all. I was alternate listed back in December and wanted to ask you guys what you think of letters of intent/updates to UCSF. I know places like Columbia/UChicago love receiving, and encourage, letters/updates/expressions of undying love for their school but I don't know where UCSF stands on this. I know that in our alternate list letter there was mention of updating grades through the portal but how about letters? UCSF is my dream school and I would love to go that extra mile to show them my interest...I just don't want to be a nuisance, especially if they don't accept/encourage much correspondence. Thanks guys and congratulations again!

Just called admissions actually about Second Look because I want to buy tickets back ASAP.

They said that it's all day Saturday the 27th starting in the morning, so it's best to arrive the night before. On Sunday the students are planning their own event for admitted students, but they're not sure what that will be yet. Can any current UCSF student maybe comment? 🙂

She said RSVPs would be going out next week, so stay tuned all!

Great! Thanks!

How long after receiving the email did you guys receive the admission letter?

Sorry if this has been answered already. Can anyone comment on how long after submitting all the financial aid information before receiving a package?

I just spoke with the fin aid office the other day! They said they are just getting the info now. Everything will be ready before second look...

i think its ironic that we have to pay for the PROFILE in order to find out how much we are going to get in financial aid assistance! 😡😕

Does anyone know if there is a Facebook page for the incoming class?

I was rejected from UCSF post interview recently. UCSF is my first choice. I do have other acceptances, 3 in the top 10, but I would withdraw them for UCSF. My friends think I should call, but they are not going to med school, so their recommendation might be off. I am not sure what to do, and I probably won't do anything, but at the same time, I'd hate to give up if there is a small chance. So I'll just ask people on SDN, do you think it would be a bad idea to call them and ask why? :scared:

Sorry to hear about the rejection . Are you looking to appeal or just looking for the actual reason? If the latter, then I don't see how it would be a bad idea, since nothing can really happen at this point. If the former, then I wouldn't do it as they specifically state that post-interview rejections are not able to appeal.

From their site
Appeals

Applicants who do not receive a secondary application or an invitation to interview may appeal the decision of the Committee on Admissions by writing to the Chair of the Admissions Committee at the Admissions Office. Please note that applicants who have interviewed are not eligible to appeal because their files have already received final Committee review.

Good luck on whichever school you decide on 👍

Has anyone who submitted an appeal pre-interview heard back? I submitted over 4 weeks ago and haven't heard.

Congrats to everyone who got in, keeping the slim hope of joining you alive.

Hi guys, I was hoping to get a little more information about UCSF. Im in both here and at Stanford however when I went to interview, there was nothing specifically about it that really stood out in my mind as to why it was such a good school. I really LOVED its location however. I am leaning towards withdrawing my acceptance though and I just want to make sure Im making the best decision. I am thinking about a dual degree (maybe MBA) and so Stanford would be a better fit for this given its other graduate schools. However, I prefer urban to suburban. Any thoughts?

I would agree with you and say that Stanford probably has a much better MBA program. Something I'd take into consideration is that going into SF from the Palo Alto area is actually really simple and cheap (Caltrain), so you could still hit up the city for the urban lifestyle and nightlife without actually living in the city and paying the ridiculous costs associated with the city if you decide to go to Stanford. Thats actually what a lot of my friends do since we live in the surrounding area. I know the Stanford/Palo Alto area is expensive as well, but the surrounding areas (Los Altos, Mountain View) are cheaper.

You don't mean that people commute from Mountain View to SF via Caltrain as med students, do you? That sounds like the worst thing ever.

No that's terrible haha I meant it as a way to hang out in the city if the op went to Stanford.

Just got the acceptance package but also just remembered that I am one bio lab short (though I have taken a year of bio lab, one semester of it was Human physiology lab, which apparently doesn't count). They are requesting my transcripts. (I got the 3rd box checked). D'Oh!

Also, anyone know if they hold you to classes you list as tentative on AMCAS? I listed Biochem but decided not to take it afterall I'm out of school)?

Thought UCSF was a long shot for me and these things I figured I'd just deal with when I came to it, seeing as how my requirements suffice for everywhere else....I guess now is the 'deal with it' time.

You should contact the admissions office directly and speak to someone about it. They should be able to help you find the most efficient way to satisfy their requirements, or they may even tell you that you don't have a problem. Good luck!

Ah, maybe not. I just know I have that one glaring pre-req. Basically, at the beginning of the application cycle I cold-called all the schools and asked if what I have taken suffices and ONLY UCSF said no, we need a certain type of Bio lab which Human physio lab doesn't fulfill. To be clear, I've taken more than a year of bio, and a year of lab, and only one semester of it (human physio bio lab) doesn't fulfill requirements, apparently. I decided not to take the bio this semester (I work and wanted a much-needed break from school) and thought I'd just cross this bridge when I came to it/maybe I'd get a pass?

I'll also be out of the country this summer. I'm not sure where UCSF will fall on my list, but I am going to their second look and it would suck if they end up being #1 but this holds me back. Fingers crossed

okay now you've got me thinking. Can anyone with their acceptance letter out verify that you have the request for transcripts box mark checked? And as long as there is no checkmark next to "Prerequisites", then that means you're automatically cleared, right guys?

@Medauthor, does it specifically state what lab you're missing?

No, it didn't state anything.

I called and all is good. 🙂 So I probably just unnecessarily caused a panic. Sorry!
