Yup! I sent one in the other day (pre-interview) and they replied within minutes that it had been added to my file. They only ask that you put your amcas ID in the email subject, in the body of the email and on the update itself. And make sure you send it as an attached PDF file. Gooood luck 🙂

+1. The info is on their website just in case you want to review it. I didn't hesitate to send them my grades, research updates, and courses for this semester. 🙂

Wow that seems really early for schools, go Cinci. I didnt think any schools sent finaid packets out until spring. Do you mind if I ask when you submitted you fafsa? I just submitted mine this week and I'm only waitlisted at UC, but I'm just curious of the general timeline.
 
havent sent my fafsa in yet.

it was a packet containing their "financial aid handbook" detailing everything that needs to be done by May 1

I just got an interview invite for March 1st.

I actually interviewed at Cincinnati 2 years ago and got wait listed and then did not get in.

I've been accepted to a few DO schools and put a deposit down at PCOM which I am very happy with to be attending.

but now I have this Allopathic interview. I mean this late in the game i'm sure it's only for a spot on the wait-list. I actually really like the DO philosophy, but obviously an allopathic school saves me some hassle with not having to take two sets of boards. Although Philly is a better location for me for personal reasons.

Oh well good problem to have I suppose.

How sure are you about this? I have an interview for Feb. 15 and I'm not sure if I want to go. I have an acceptance to Tulane, which I absolutely love, but UC would end up being MUCH less expensive. But if it's only for a wait-list spot I'd rather not spend all that money flying out...

UC does not explicity interview for spots on the waitlist. That said, because they interview on a rolling basis, there are not as many acceptance spots left late in the interview season as there are early on. As an example, I interviewed early in the season here and they told us that only something like 70 out of something like 650 total acceptances had been given out. A friend of mine who interviewed late in the season (a couple years ago) said that she was told when she interviewed that only 17 acceptance spots were left. So, she wasn't explicitly interviewing for the waitlist, but she didn't have a great chance at acceptance either.

Not a current UC student, just an acceptee/admirer of the school 😛. My friend who I mentioned in my last post is a current student though (got accepted off the waitlist), and she's really liking it there. Honestly, it was not super high on my list before I interviewed and I ended up really liking it, so I'd go if I were you. On the other hand, I can also see how spending the extra time/money on interviewing at this point in the cycle might be frustrating or not worth it to you.

I'll be attending my state school, but I did interview here (waitlisted) and was highly impressed. It really had everything I was looking for in a school, and I liked it even better than what I initially thought was my "dream" school. If it were in a different location, I would be fighting to get off the waitlist! (This only applies to my family; if I were attending alone, I would be all over Cinci.)

Initially I really wanted to go to the interview because of what I read on the forum about everyone loving it so much. The main issue (besides the money) is I have a 6 month old son who I have to leave with my mom for every interview, and it's kind of crazy every time, so this late in the cycle I'm thinking I might just pass. In any other situation I'd definitely go, but hopefully my spot goes to someone else on this thread who really wants it.

Well I just got an email from Dean Mannuel saying the following:

"This email is in reference to your upcoming interview at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. I wanted to let you know that students who interview in March will be placed on the Alternate List. It is unlikely there will be remaining offers by the time you are reviewed by the Admissions Committee. Each year, there are approximately 250 students on our Alternate List. Over the summer, the College of Medicine typically makes between 35-50 offers to students on the Alternate List. However, there have been years when the number of offers to Alternates has been fewer than 15; and conversely, years when the number has exceeded 70. At this time, we have no way of predicting how many offers we will be making this summer."

So yes they are specifically interviewing for the Alternate list in March.

Hey, sorry about that, I think that's new from previous years just based on my friend's experience interviewing late. Thanks for the correction and sorry for giving out false information!

I've given my thoughts on it - I loved the school - but really it sounds like this is a personal decision. Either way, congrats, you're gonna be a doctor 😀!

I just got this email too, and I'm going to decline the interview. I have an MD acceptance so it's not really worth it to me. But you asked for insight, and I have a friend who is a DO, and he told me if he could do it over again, he would rather go foreign med than DO, which I know sounds like a bold statement, and I'm sure it's different for everyone, but this is his opinion. His reasons are the difficulty with CME opportunities, like I guess there are not many out there (he's a psych) so he has to do a lot of travel to random cities to attend conferences to do them. And apparently for him, licensing was a pain and pretty expensive. His wife is an MD (also psych) and I think he has a pretty good idea of the pros and cons between the two. And lastly, he said when he did his residency there was a bias against DO's, but I think it depends where you go. I totally agree that it's a lot of money to fly out to interview, but just wanted to offer what I had heard. Obviously this doesn't apply to everyone, and I'm sure there are a lot of DO's out there to love it and even prefer it to MD.

This offers some pretty critical information for those of us who are on the wait list. Assuming the demand is similar this year, we can predict ~255 students will remain on the Alternate List.

From their, my understanding is that they divide it into thirds (in this case, 85 students in each third). Essentially, it sounds like if you're not in the Top Third, your chance is very small. If you are in the Top Third, your chance may range between 15-85%, depending on the year. And, since they fill their available spots based on student demographic need (in-state, URM, non-traditional student, etc.), that obviously also comes into the equation, too.

This sounds right. Dean Manuel told us that waitlisters will also be notified which third they are in (though I'm not sure when the notification goes out)

Does anyone know in general what type of demographic they normally need to fill. From what I understand being the demographic they need to add is more important than being in the first third. I've heard they'll draw from the middle third for the demographic they need even if there are still people in the first third who haven't been offered a spot. I feel as a white out of state male I'll probably not be a demographic in high demand. I'm sure they'll probably have plenty of those.

My understanding is the demographics schools, in general, need to fill are:
- In-state (not sure what the required percentage is for UC, but it is set by the Ohio govt)
- Non-traditional (most schools desire a certain percentage of their students to be non-trad)
- URM (not sure if this is a govt requirement or personal goal, but typically schools try to get X number of URM)
- Female (many schools aim for 50/50)

Yep, as a OOS, traditional, white male our odds aren't too great if they need to "fill a demographic". But if they don't need to fill a demographic, then I believe it's based mainly on ranking.

I remember Dean Manuel mentioning that they get pretty specific also. So, for example, in the non-trad category, he said they want a percentage who had healthcare careers, a percentage with non-healthcare careers, etc.
 
Accepted! Can't believe it, I thought the MMI didn't go so well.

Do accepted students fill out any forms as of yet?
 
I'm guessing everyone that has not heard back by now is pretty much rejected pre-interview. When will they send out the pre-interview rejections, and are they email or snail mail. Even if I were to get an invite this late in the game, I'm not sure I would have gone anyway. Something about interviewing only for waitlist spots really rubs me the wrong way.

I had my transcripts sent over 2 weeks ago yet my status page still says they haven't been received. Does anyone who has sent them in have "yes" under transcript received or are they just slow at updating this on the status page? Thanks!

I think that it will change to yes when they get your final transcripts. Not positive about that though.

Mine took like 2-3 weeks after when they should have been received to update to "yes".

But I have a spot at VCU and capped at Gtown..
Is it worth it to go?

I have no idea about UC as a school so its hard to make decisions. Guess I should have done my research 😛

For those of you who have already interviewed, how late does the interview run? The only return flight I was able to book was for 6:00PM and the U of C website says that the interviews run until 5PM. My start time is at 11AM. Is this accurate or does it usually end earlier? Thanks.
 
I went in the morning for the earlier interview and was out by 4 I think, so if you are interviewing later then I would expect to be there till 5. Check out flights out of the Dayton airport, should be cheaper. About 30 min more driving time though.

Definitely plan on 5 if you start at 11. My interview started at 9 and finished at about 3:15.

Very accurate.

I had the 11am start time a few weeks ago and had my MMI from 3:30-5ish so there's no chance of ducking out early either.

Any advice from the above quoted people or anyone else regarding the MMIs.. I'm interviewing March 1st and I'm extremely nervous about it especially since I can't really prepare and it's my first interview invite.

I apologize if this has been asked already... but does anyone know if UC is receptive to a post-interview update? And if so, who do we send it to? I interviewed in December.
 
Does anyone know when second look is? The website has last year's date.
 
Man I wish they would have scheduled it for a weekend, I don't think I can take off work 🙁
