I still can't believe your the only person to post a II and that was over a week ago. Are the others too shy to post?

Verified 8/2, received secondary 8/2

O3.71, S3.51, 29R

Edit: I gather that II stands for interview not secondary but for those of you concerned about getting screened out of a secondary my stats are not amazing. I'm sure you all will get one.

I emailed admissions and they said that everyone will receive a secondary this year.

It does stand for interview, she/he posted the only interview invite on the 6th.

II today! Leila Amiri called 🙂

Secondary submitted 7/30
II 8/16

In-State, UMiami undergrad, 3.9+ sGPA, 3.9+ cGPA, 34Q

Wishing everyone good luck!!! Didn't go through regular admissions, but just wanted to send some love to future classmates. You are amazingly talented and inspiring people, and I can't wait to meet you. Through the admissions process- be honest, genuine, let your passion show... and have faith that things happen as they should! Lots of love, best of luck, and go gata

can any current students give insight into what to expect on interview day por favor? format of the interviews perhaps? 🙂

Should I be worried that I was complete mid July and did not hear back yet? Has anyone gotten an interview from UFCOM at a later time even though you submitted the secondary early?

UF alum, 3.8, 33O

Your stats are fine; just be patient like you said. My close friend was accepted last year with ~3.7cgpa and 27 mcat, and she was complete late July.. You'll get an II unless there is a condition I don't know about like OOS or horrible essays/ECs.

Interview Invite 9-14! Shocked! I'm a complete underdog and feel so grateful right now!

So when it says limit to 250-500 words? Does that mean it has to be between 250-500 words or if it is under that will I be ok? Im at under 250 now and don't want to add in filler for no reason.

I would write a little bit more if I were you. Unless it is really, really good.

Not shy - just didn't realize people were interested. Sorry for not posting sooner!

cGPA 3.82, sGPA 3.81 from Johns Hopkins undergrad. FL resident. 35Q with low PS. Applying straight (about to start senior year of college). My interview is scheduled for 9/7, and when I asked about it she said that was the earliest date for interviews.

congrats! If you don't mind me asking, how low was your ps score?

When did you guys submit your secondary? I submitted mine on 8/12 and I'm trying to get a feel for when I should be expecting some sort of communication from UF.

Also, congratulations!!! Hope your interviews go well!!!

I'm staying with a student, yeah. The night before. The hosting program is a great opportunity to get a bit of insight into what it's like to be a student there.

My gap year essay is pretty good but I cant say more than 100 words without extremely fabricating it.

Are we not allowed to claim dependent on our parents for FL residency? I got a letter saying "at the graduate level, all students are considered independent." Currently an undergrad. Anyone with similar situation?

I got a similar letter. I still don't understand everything, but it appears that for tuition purposes you can't be in/applying to a professional school and be a dependent. Although I think you can switch after your admitted. This is for "tuition purposes" so I'm guessing we would still be considered in state for application purposes, but I'm not 100% sure.

Wondering if any current student or well-informed applicant could comment on what separates UF from some of the other schools in Florida and the southeast. I've always heard good things about Shands, but are there any other things that you all liked here that you didn't see at other schools. Also, how does everyone do with the Gainesville factor? I love college football and that would be exciting on home games, but are there other things to do? One of my friends that went there really liked to run out at a nature trail but said that you had to watch out for gators and wild boar.

Any IS applicants get a letter about proving residence in the state of florida for tuition purposes? It says that graduate students can't claim themselves as dependents to qualify for florida residency.

I'm honestly very confused about this (I've been living in FL for many year but I am currently a dependent) and the people I spoke to at UF were very unhelpful. Any insights??

Weird, I completed the application as a dependent but didn't get that letter? Anyone else?

Did you put your information or your parents/guardians information on the residency website??? I put my parents so maybe thats the difference, although I copied the 'cant claim dependent for IS residence' verbatim from the letter they sent me.

I got the same thing, and laughed at it. I filled out the form and sent it back, we shall see how that works out.

I kind of find it funny how we are technically dependents and usually dependent for fin. aid. purposes for med school. Yet for UF residency purposes we are now independents. Alright paperwork! :scared:

So you filled it out as independent even though tax forms say your dependent of your parents/guardians??

Yea, they highlighted "independent" blah blah blah "for any graduate/professional student."

In UF's eyes, for residency classification only (or so I figure), we are independent. Cause that makes peeeeerfect sense.

I'm glad I'm not the only one having problems. When I called UF confused, the girl I talked to made me feel like idiot for not understanding.

I guess I'll do the same as you.

Dude, it's so simple! Your independent when it's beneficial for the university to classify you that way and dependent when the university finds it beneficial to classify you as such. How could you not know that in advance? Pleb. [/Sarcasm]

It's kind of ridiculous if you ask me. But hey, do what we must right?

I claimed dependent but used my own information. No issues so far. Now I'm debating if I should call and check...

Gainesville Pros: 1. Football games are awesome....we always have med school tailgates and we have a med school block (which usually ends up being pretty good seats)....

2. Other UF sporting events are awesome too---basketball, gymnastics, baseball....

3. There are tons of things to do outdoors here.....crystal clear springs and spring fed rivers to tube, kayak, canoe.....lots of trails to hike run or bike.....lake wauburg which is UF owned lake with rock climing, sail boats, a ropes course....on that note, UF is pretty fitness friendly--tons of free fitness classes at the gym (but they do fill up fast), and they even have these boot camp things outside twice a week where personal trainers put you through a bunch of cross training stuff for FREE....also have 2 nice outdoor pools and an indoor pool which have good open swim hours

4. Cheap places to go out---and we take full advantage of them with our mission trips fundraiser bar and club nights which happen just about every week

5. Cheap places to live

Hope this helps......Ill add more later when im not half asleep

II invite today! I was actually at the grocery store when it happened and was caught of guard. lol

Super pumped!

Anybody know if they have student hosts?

Thanks for the info napoletana1007.

I wasn't able to confirm an actual date (and I guess receive a notifying email) because I was away from my schedule.

What date did you go with?

I'm sept 14, I decided against staying with a student just because my grandparents live 20 min away and I think I'd be more comfortable staying with them and would really like a good night's sleep.

Coolster 0040 and Napoletana1007 Congrats!!!! by the way would you please tell me when did you submit your secondary application? Thanks!

Shands is a tertiary care center, meaning you will find that many of the patients have been referred here for specialty care for rare or unusual conditions. You will see a large variety of pathologies on different services that you might not get elsewhere. You will, as anywhere, see your bread and butter cases but the fact that Shands is an academic medical center means you will have the opportunity to see things that you might not get to at other schools in Florida, especially the newer schools. You'll get the same education the first 2 years at pretty much any school; the most important thing to look at is how much you can do and see during the clinical years (and at UF, the answer is "a lot!").

Gainesville has cheap cost of living, cheap (really good) restaurants, and fun sports games to attend. Not much in the way of culture, aside from a few scattered theaters and the campus orchestra (really cool btw), but I found it to be an easy adjustment (I went to college in Baltimore, grew up in Orlando, had no problems adjusting to it).

Hope that helps.

Submitted 7/29. Complete 8/2.
IS. GPA 3.7. 36.

Best of luck redriddinghood8 and accmd!

As a first year student and non-UF undergraduate student, I would say that going UF and Gainesville is probably the best decision that I've made in a long-time.

1) The new curriculum, though rough in some spots at times, is actually really fun. I've been enjoying the new process. We just completed genetics, which was really informative. They bring in real patients to talk to the class about their experiences with certain diseases. That stuff sticks in your mind. I'm not sure if you would have the same experience if you went to a school without an academic medical center. Also, I really trust the administration that is overseeing the process. Dr. Fantone came from U.Michigan to revamp the curriculum at UF. I think his leadership team is making a lot of great changes.

2) Gainesville is a great city. There is a ton of things to do around the city. They have some great bars. There is great local support for UF and the work the UFCOM does in the city. There's plenty of opportunities to be involved in ways to make Gainesville a better place. Also, busing is free, so getting to and from Shands costs me nothing.

3) Dr. Rarey for 18 months.

4) Tons of opportunities. I know friends that have been invited to scrub into surgeries and lots of other stuff. Most of the faculty there seems really receptive to us asking about their specialties and practices.

5) Walking through Shands to get to class in the morning. It reminds me why I'm there.

Feel free to PM me with more questions. Hope that helps.

Go Gators! Pick a QB already!
