So I was curious, how long after the interview invite have people been getting emails? I received a missed call from Ms. Amiri and I tried calling the office back to speak to her but had no success... I dont want to get my hopes up because I love UF and dont want be heartbroken =/, but I am hoping it is an interview invite... has this happened to anyone?

same exact thing happened to me. Missed call on Friday afternoon, called back with no success. After a grueling weekend I called on Monday and it was an II. If you got a call from her then it is extremely likely it is an II, just call tomorrow (I recommend in the morning).

Thanks, but I actually went to my interview already, Interview day was awesome! You definitely have something to look forward to.

Anyone having problems with choosing a student host from the website? I doesn't let me pick a student and it gives me an error.
JH, I don't think you can choose a host from that website directly. But hosts' contact info should be on their profiles, so I just emailed mine directly. Good luck with your interview!

Did they tell you when to expect to hear back after your interview? When do they start sending out acceptances or rejections? Congrats btw! I was just able to meet Leila, she presented at my school the other day. She is wonderful and this school seems great!!

First day for regular MD acceptance is Oct. 15

Another thing... they will study your application along with the passport photo you sent them. When I arrived, the office of admissions staff, including the director and the dean, greeted me by name. Many of these people I had never met or even seen. It was a nice touch. To me it seemed like they treated us as if we were already in. Of course, they do show you their numbers and inform you that between 60% and 65% of those interviewed are ultimately accepted. Everyone I talked with in my interview group was very impressive. I have no idea how they are going to make these decisions.

I agree, I was so flattered by UF and the way they made me feel like I was more than just an applicant, I was a prospective future student! If you were there on Friday, I completely agree, we had an amazing interview group, its going to be very difficult for them to narrow it down. Weird to think theyll be voting on us tomorrow night. YIKES!

Can someone who interviewed already please eloborate on the interviews? For example, how many interviewers for each session, how long were the sessions, does the schedule vary for each of us? Also, if you have any insight into the types of questions they ask that would be helpful! 🙂 Just want to know if its structured with them asking you specific questions about your resume, if they just sit down and say tell me about yourself, or if they focus on industry/clinical topics. Thanks!

It probably varies. Youll have different events in the morning, lunch with students, and then three one hour blocks. You will spend two of these hours interviewing (2 interviews, 1 hour each) and 1 hour touring. This order will vary, as will the questions. Both of my interviewers only asked me about my application and general things about myself. Other people in my group (of 26) had some tough health care questions and ethical dilemmas. So it really depends

One of my interviews was almost entirely about my research. Both interviews did include, however, questions such as "Why medicine?", with follow up questions about how I became interested and what clinical experiences I had. If you filled out your AMCAS well (i.e., personal statement, descriptions of activities), these questions are very easy! Know your research well if you've done any. My second interview was more about how I handle stress (which led into self awareness), my hobbies outside of academia, and my potential contribution to the class. I had one ethics question, but s/he just asked me to describe my attitude about treating two different patients in a common situation, but he did not ask me to make any particular decision. I had no questions about healthcare reform, but others did. Prepare for that. Healthcare.gov is a good place to learn about the Affordable Care Act.

There were no abstract questions such as "What flavor of ice cream are you?" of "If you could go back in time and have a conversation with someone, who would it be?". Other people in my group said they didn't get questions like these either, but I guess it could happen.

Just know yourself well and be able to discuss your academic accomplishments. The interviewers will not try to stump you. They are very friendly. I actually enjoyed my interviews. They gave me a chance to vocalize my opinions and personal traits to folks who were actually interested in hearing them.

Hi guys,

My experience of the interviews was great. It really was just a conversation and my interviewers seemed to be very skilled in pulling out relevant information, in making me feel comfortable, and in highlighting the strengths of my application. There were no oddball questions at all. No hypothetical ethics questions either. Relaxed and very conversational.

Interview Invite this morning for Oct 26th!! So excited!!

Sounds like you hit the jackpot today. Congrats! 👍

I've been complete for a while. Looks like I need to hope I'm in the 2013 pile

Hi everyone,
When/how do you know if UF is giving you a merit scholarship?

Congrats to all accepted!😉

Waitlisted....this is so depressing 🙁 But congrats to those who got accepted!

Add another one to the waitlist here. Congrats to those accepted, and also to those watitlisted. You were only offered an interview if you were a qualified candidate! Try not to be depressed. Dissapointment is expected, but you've done well to come as far as you have. Good luck with future interviews, and to those accepted, good luck getting more acceptances!

ACCEPTED!!!!! I love the UF COM faculty so very much. What a blessing and an honor it is!

We need a Facebook group! I'm for sure going to this school! Withdrawing all other apps!

Oh thats bold haha I withdrew about half of my applications today too though. YAYAY UF. If you want, I will make the group and share the link on here......

Waitlisted too... But FIU came in later today and made my day awesome!
Same here....I was totally shocked because I didn't expect to hear back yesterday, didn't think that my day would end so well considering how it began.

Damn it, why didn't I apply early?

UF, gimme an interview!

Congratulations on the acceptances everyone. Let me or any of the other med students lurking in this thread if you have questions. I can't answer anything about the new curriculum (since my class was still "traditional") but I'd be happy to answer questions about clinical sites/Gainesville/other stuff.

I submitted my secondary on 8/21 and haven't heard back yet. I was wondering if there is an average wait time or if there is anything I should do in the mean time. As depressing as this sounds, will they tell me if they don't want to interview me or will I just have to keep waiting?

Last year I kept waiting to no avail :-( this year my secondary to ii time was about 7-10 days

Just declined offer. Sowwy.

Where you going instead?

I originally applied to UF as a "backup" (mostly cause I would prefer to leave Florida if possible) but as I've learned more about the school, I've become more and more excited about the idea of going to UF. Then right when they accepted me, I got an invite to my dream school, so we'll see what happens. Definitely a load off knowing that I was accepted somewhere that I'd love to go.

Also, out of curiosity, did everyone else get an email and a phone call? That seemed a bit strange to me and I didn't know if it was just my interviewer or if that's standard UF practice or what.

E:

Oh, also, for all you reading this that haven't interviewed yet, just wanted to let you know that, like seemingly everyone else, my interviews were very relaxed and conversational. We mostly just chatted about stuff from my applications. One of the questions that really stuck out in my mind was "what scares you the most about med school?" but what questions you're asked will really depend on who your interviewers are.

I'd recommend doing a quick read through of your application the day before the interview to make sure you remember what you wrote, and be sure you can succinctly explain what you did in your ECs/research. That said, I didn't do any prep and it went fine. It's really a relaxed environment, so relax!

Well my top TOP choices haven't gotten back to me yet, and don't let applicants know for a couple months, but I got into some schools that are higher up on my list. I applied to UF for the same reasons as you, in-state safety pretty much, but I got into another FL school higher on the list and some others out of state. Hopefully I'll hear back with acceptances from top choice schools, but I basically eliminated UF because it was lower on my list. Don't take that as I have any kind of beef with the school, it's a great program... but...well... okay, it's Gainesville. I'm coming from NYC. 'Nuff said?

Also, no I just got an email. No phone call.
