Well my top TOP choices haven't gotten back to me yet, and don't let applicants know for a couple months, but I got into some schools that are higher up on my list. I applied to UF for the same reasons as you, in-state safety pretty much, but I got into another FL school higher on the list and some others out of state. Hopefully I'll hear back with acceptances from top choice schools, but I basically eliminated UF because it was lower on my list. Don't take that as I have any kind of beef with the school, it's a great program... but...well... okay, it's Gainesville. I'm coming from NYC. 'Nuff said?

Also, no I just got an email. No phone call.

Yeah, I know exactly what you mean. I withdrew my applications from a couple of other schools when I heard back from UF.

Now, speaking purely hypothetically, of course, when they say that "your acceptance remains contingent upon continued academic performance at your current level," how strictly is that intended? Like, if I currently had a 4.0, surely they wouldn't rescind my acceptance over a couple of B's, right?

Yeah, I take that as don't screw up. B's are fair game... don't go getting C's or failing.

Hey those of you who were accepted! We need to secure our seat with a $100 deposit and need to check "I accept" correct? What if we change our minds down the road - I know the deposit is refundable but the "I accept: piece is my concern...

Any one know if UF looks at number of other acceptances when offering financial aid? I know a lot of other schools do and offer more money to persuade you to choose them.

Interview Invite today! Very excited! Complete 7/17

I'm scheduled for November 16, so yes still 2012. Hope this helps!

Will UF get to apps complete in early October? I feel like their class will be full by then 🙁

If they're still offering interview invites in November (from Boomski's post above), I would imagine their class is far from full! I just came from another thread where that school is already scheduling interviews in February. 😱

Interview Invite today for November date! Complete 7/17. Do they send the confirmation email the same day you speak with Ms. Amiri? I haven't gotten mine yet.

What are the average stats for UF. What are the percentages of IS/OOS interviews and acceptances.

What are the average stats for UF. What are the percentages of IS/OOS interviews and acceptances.
This is based on the MSAR, not US News:

Applications- 1635 IS 1088 OOS
Interviews- 347 IS 23 OOS
Matriculated- 130 IS 5 OOS

Theres nothing on total acceptances, sorry.

Avg cGPA 3.83, BPCM 3.79, MCAT 32

On my interview day they said they accept something like 230 out of the 375 interviews they were planning on having, so roughly 2/3rds although I don't know if that applies to the IS/OOS divide.

do they not start pulling people from the wait list until May 15th?

Yes, they do not start pulling from the waitlist until May 15. This was posted on May 7 of 2012 in last year's UF school -specific thread by millie44:

"UF does over accept students. I called the admissions office last week to ask about waitlist movement. As of last week when I called I was told that there are still 155 people holding acceptances. The goal class size is 135 students. So he said 20 more students would have to withdraw before anyone would be moved from the waitlist. He suspects that most of the withdrawals will come on May 15th, but there is still no guarantee that they will need to go to the waitlist. Hopefully we will see some movement soon!

So, if you're a fellow waitlister like myself, start forming back up plans NOW. IF this is true (which we don't know because it wasn't actually posted or endorsed by the UF COM, and likewise, I do not endorse it so do not quote or credit me), and based on the fact that they offered 220 acceptance last year out of roughly 370 interviewees (they told us this on interview day this year), 220 - 155 = 65 admits from the wait list. Subtracting the 155 from the denominator of total interviewees, 370 - 155 = 215. So, based on these assumptions, here are your odds: 65/215 x 100 = 30% chance of being accepted off the waitlist. If you attempt to contact the office about this they will not comment; however, they have been very nice and helpful with advising me about back up plans. I think they want to avoid giving people false hope, which I can respect. But think about it... if you interviewed in Sept or Oct, then you interviewed early. If you interviewed early, you got their attention quickly. It would make sense that they would interview the candidates about which they were most excited first, so that once accepted, they could recruit them. Other schools will be trying to recruit these "stellar" applicants, and UF wants them too. Early waitlist students are probably the result of a high level of uncertainty regarding whether or not more stellar applications come down the line. In my case, an academic rough patch in my 3rd year of undergrad likely caused this. This is all speculative, and as long winded as it is, I hope it offers encouragement to many of you. For those already accepted, again, congratulations! Everyone in my interview group was a superior candidate.

Your math is definitely right, but something still seems odd. UF said that 70% of the class comes off the waitlist. 65/135 isn't 70%. I might have misheard that percentage on interview day though.

Goku, thanks for the info. I could be totally wrong in everything I posted previously, which is why I did so with reservation. I do not remember hearing the 70% statistic on interview day, but I could have somehow missed that. And you're right, 65 over 135 is just under 50%. Maybe the post by millie44 was wrong. Maybe the post was based on just one year, whereas the 70% statistic is based on an average of several years. Who knows? But anyway, all we can do is hope, pray, meditate... whatever it is that we all do, that we get at least ONE other interview invite SOMEWHERE. I'm very seriously considering the Caribbean at this point, and feel foolish for not doing so sooner. I have already begun some of those applications and requested more info. I also completed an AACOMAS application a few months ago, but never submitted it... very stupid of me. November is really late to be applying... anywhere. At any rate, I've already begun the job search. After May 15 will be too late to start. Good luck, buddy!

I was accepted and turned it down, so I hope that someone enjoys that waitlist slot! On the interview day they told us that they plan to accept 2.2 people for every 1 slot based on the usual acceptance/matriculation ratio.

A little dramatic considering we have 4-5 months left in this cycle.

Actually, it's smart. If I was smart I would have started thinking like this last year and applied for americorpes when the program I'm interested started taking applications and ect. I likely would have avoided the interesting mess I'm currently in.

Are you reapplicant status?

I agree that planning ahead is a smart idea, but to predict that UF (a very competitive school) will be your only II when we aren't even into Nov is a little neurotic. I think the OP will be fine (many people don't get II until spring).

Yes I am. This application process can result in a lot of neurotic-ism/alcoholism. The original post you quoted may be a little melodramatic, but it's still a smart way to view the cycle.

Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately) I'm still alcohol-ed out after last year haha. So now it's just painful waiting while working and volunteering.

Yup, I'm doing ok for this cycle thus far.

MD Schools:
1 pre-II rejection
1 pre-II hold
4 II's (2 down, one of which i felt good about, the other I think I blew. Now for more waiting  . 2 to go. UF is Nov. 16th for me.)
6 unknowns

Oh and still 4 DO secondaries to go... Which is late, but why not try now?

How 'bout yourself?

I got 1 II and 1 R so far. About every school in florida is giving me the cold shoulder so far lol. With four II I'd say you're good to go. Statistically thats a high 90% for an acceptance to at least one school.

Well if it makes you feel better, FSU never got back to me last year (no rejection notice, I just figured it out on my own), and this year I feel the same ish is going to happen from them. I somehow get the feeling they don't like me.

Also, last year I was an interview waitlister for UCF (which was cool for them to let me know). But ended up with all my lovely IS rejection notices the day of each school's last interview.

Only thing I had was an interview at Pitt, which resulted in me being wait-listed until class matriculation August 16th or so. By then I was right back in the midst of applying. It's the cycle that never ends.

Your first cycle sounds bizzare. I looked through you past posts and saw your stats. With that GPA and MCAT, honestly feels like you were a statistical anomaly. Don't count on the same thing happening this cycle.

There is much more than straight up stats for applications and each school is looking for something slightly different IMO.

My first cycle suffered one major drawback, I applied relatively late, doh! To fix this stupidity, I applied quite early this time. I also have diversified a bit and now have a few more creative endeavors to talk about and some more volunteer work. But I got EXTREMELY lucky to end up with my job (at my two past interviews it earned some interesting looks and questions, and is even "creative" 😀 ). I think it's better to plan for the worst to avoid needing luck to turn out alright.

Because of the small number of schools to which I applied, and that all of my secondaries were returned within 24 hours of getting them, it's not neurotic at all. Had I chosen several "back up" schools, then I agree, that post would have been completely stupid. I only applied to schools I actually would really enjoy attending. I did not send out a dozen+ applications simply hoping to get in somewhere. I guess we really don't know enough about each others' situations to deem one's prediction neurotic or not.

However, I can agree that it was dramatic, at least to some degree. That stems from nearing the completion of a PhD, having no idea whether it'll be med school or a post doc, not having either in place, and realizing that working hard for the last five years of my life for a minimal salary might not mean anything, seeing as the other jobs I could apply for only require a B.S... but, there are FAR worse problems in the world than this.

We all get increasingly anxious as time passes and we don't get it. However, not becoming bitter is key - there is no need for that. I can honestly say that I do wish everyone the best of luck and many congratulations. There are enough spots at UF (not to mention other Fla schools) for all the people I've seen on this thread, my entire interview group, and all of my other friends applying to medical school. Therefore, I want to help everyone as much as I can, not compete. I post detailed extensive comments in hopes that someone with a situation that parallels mine in some fashion can glean something that will make them feel better about their application, be more informed about the uncertainties that lie ahead, and to provide company and perhaps a support network for those who have not yet received what they seek. Most of what I post is what I wish someone else had posted sooner.

PM me if you're anxious about back up plans. I'd be glad to share what I've found. Cheers!

I hope this works out well for you! I would be very disappointed if I heard you had to go through this twice and still didn't get there, when you were likely a good candidate the first time. I'll send special vibes your way.

Well I'm cheering for you 🙂. Did you apply everywhere in FL (assuming you're a resident)?

I applied to all Florida MD programs (yes, I am a resident), except FSU, which makes six in total (but you knew that). The only reason I did not apply to FSU is because the dean of admissions told me directly, in person, not to apply there because I was research oriented as opposed to primary care oriented. He suggested I apply to UF (a great suggestion). The remaining five schools also have avenues for research, and I made sure to look into that carefully. I chose not to apply out of state because it puts a huge damper on your odds, especially for someone like me with low metrics from a public university.

I withdrew from the waitlist. Good luck to everyone that's on it!

Accepted via phone call on 10-30!!! 😀

Good luck to everyone else who has interviewed or is interviewing!!!

Is UF still having problems with their acceptances website, where you make your seat deposits?

Any one know if UF looks at number of other acceptances when offering financial aid? I know a lot of other schools do and offer more money to persuade you to choose them.

Not sure if anyone answered this question for you or not, but in my personal experience the answer is NO. I had multiple acceptances as well and UF did not beef up my scholarship package. Congrats on the acceptance!

I'll be able to tell you more in a few weeks. This is what they covered in second look:
  1. Block scheduling - They rearranged the information by systems. The first part of the year will still be anatomy and basics of medicine.
  2. Reduced time in basic science - Basic sciences will be covered in 18 instead of 24 months. Step 1 will be taken in March/April of second year.
  3. Reduction in lecture hours - They reworked the lectures to take out overly redundant information.
  4. Small groups - The class will be broken up into 17ish small groups. A member for the faculty will be assigned to each group. Every Tuesday and/or Wednesday the group meets to cover important information from lectures, look at case studies, etc. You are with the same small group for all of your basic science curriculum.
  5. Fridays - Friday afternoons are left open for "discovery" (research), shadowing, studying, etc.
  6. Preceptorships - Are still included in the curriculum.
  7. Summer between MS1 and MS2 - Is still open. Looks like they strongly encourage the MSRP in the summer, but it's not required.
  8. Clinical rotations - Start the second year after Step 1, so there's more rotations.

I'll let you all know how it goes throughout the year. I'm really excited, especially about the small group aspect of the curriculum. I'm not overly excited about taking Step 1 in the spring, but at least it will be over sooner. Hope that helps!

Is there anything else in the curriculum that tcritty did not cover? I cannot find any information on their website. What is the typical class schedule like? Is it P/F?

+1 for the additional information.

Also, how does the P/F work? Is it based on the class average or a pre-determined number/curve?
