Sorry, I didn't mean to offend. I asked because I'm Hawaiian and I feel like they definitely prioritize getting us in, even with lower stats, because the thought is we'll stay on island. I shadowed a PCP for 40 hours and volunteered in an ED for >200 hours. Have 500+ leadership hours and two years of work experience in public health. I'm in-state. I want to go to school on the mainland, so I probably won't attend, though. Sending you positive vibes!

also when did you get the acceptance email from jabsom today?

OS, 3.91 GPA, 29S

Very disappointed. Had hoped I would at least be WL. Now I just have one other school to hope for, otherwise it looks like I'm going to have to reapply this year.
 
Hmm for those of you waiting to hear back, does your last name start with a letter towards the end of the alphabet?? Mine does and I haven't heard so maybe they are releasing decisions in alpha order?? It's odd because rs, wls, and as have been sent out..

For what it's worth, my last name is U.
 
Rejected, IS, 3.9 37 MCAT. It's clearly not just about the numbers here at UH. Not a big deal since I got accepted elsewhere, though it is a bit disappointing.
 
Rejected, IS, 3.85 36 MCAT. Unfortunately this is a big deal for me.
 
Sorry to hear about all the rejections. This is particularly disturbing since some of the stats are so stellar. Really makes you wonder what the adcom is looking for...
Just remember the islands are not going anywhere and you can always come back as a physician if this is where you truly want to practice medicine. I have to remind myself that almost daily...

Ahhh I know how the sting of rejection feels (I was waitlisted and eventually rejected last year) and I know no one wants to hear everything happens for a reason but if you're passionate about what you do and who you are, you'll get there and this rejection just means another opportunity is coming; one suited just for you and it'll happen just when the time is right (I met the love of my life and it would've never happened if I got in last year)!

I'm really sorry about all of the rejections; I'm not an expert but if there's any way I can help with anyone reapplying my inbox is always open 🙂!
 
Can any of the accepted students comment on what is the date you have to respond by? Just trying to see when the earliest possible wait list movement can occur, if any. Thanks!

Hey, guys. I have been reading over your comments these few days... I have been staying silent until now.. Well I am international and wait-listed too (received the email on March 20). Sigh....
 
I've been reading previous comments for the last couple days and I think I should contribute. Waitlisted, IS, 3.70, MCAT 28.

This waiting game is so painful!!! But I lose no hopes!!

Soooo... do us wait-listers just hang tight until April 5th and hope for the best?😳
 
To be honest I think April 5 is the best case scenario to hear anything.
 
So apparently my application review won't be until mid May. Does anyone have experience with these reviews? Did they help for when you re-applied, or was it pretty generic?

Is May 15 the official deadline for tuition? I know Canadian schools don't put out acceptances until May 14 lol... what's with these wednesday and tuesday dates!

I found the review to be helpful as they addressed the specific weaknesses in my application. In my opinion it is worth a phone call.

As I understand May 15th is the last day people can hold multiple acceptances and basically have to decide on one school by then. That's why there can be significant wait list movement occurring after this date. Of course some people decide not to follow the rules for whatever reason and the whole process can drag out even further. Looks like a couple more months of torture for us!
 
hey guys anybody heard about imi hoala program interview invites. As Im officially waitlisted I guess I will be interviewing for this program as I hold JABSOM at the top of my list. crossing my fingers on wl movement but well see i guess.

oh ok just wondering thanks for the timeline...just wondering are you applying to imi? I would think with stellar numbers like yours you would have tons of options?

:poke: It's already April. Are interview invites for imi through phone, email, or snail mail?
 
Yeah in waiting on Imi too well see what happens just wondering is the kamaaina reqs the same ad jabsom?

These boards seem really quiet... I guess do we have any idea how many people have accepted their invite so far (is there a facebook group or something ?)

I tried searching on fb for class of 2017 page and there hasn't been one created yet (the latest one is of class of 2016). Hopefully by this friday we can get a little more info.
 
so i was looking at the thread from last year and saw april 5 was the first day of reported movement on SDN. Anyone have any news on wl movement?

Waitlist is moving! A friend of mine, IS applicant, was accepted over the weekend.

I'm an incoming MS1 at JABSOM and wanted to offer a few pieces of advice and make a few clarifications for future applicants.


Based on my conversations with others and my own experiences, your interview is a very important factor (if not the most important) in being admitted.


Interview early if you can (October or earlier). Not only will your plane flights be cheaper, but you have a chance of receiving a December acceptance.


Hawaii does not over accept, like some schools. They accept as many people as are needed to fill the class and then pull people off the waitlist as students withdraw.


Because class starts in July, your multiple acceptance deadline is April 15th, not May 15th.


If you have a genuine interest in UH, I strongly recommend you apply, even if you are OOS. If you are OOS, I think it helps if you are familiar with the school and the island.


Feel free to pm me if you have any other questions about JABSOM, particularly if they are OOS-related. I will check occasionally and will do my best to answer your questions.

OMG got accepted of the wait list today!!!! Was so shocked to see the e-mail and literally had tears of joy!!! Happiest person in the world right now 🙂))) To all those waiting, don't lose hope!!! Trust me, I know how hard it is, but keep the faith and trust the universe that everything will work itself out!

Congratulations! I am so envious of you! How exciting! Has any OOS from the waitlist been accepted yet? I feel like I've seen some movement with the IS but nothing from OOS... 🙁
