Application withdrawn.
Does anyone have any insight as to what these status changes mean? I called admissions yesterday and they said that I passed the first reviewer, and my status changed to "applicant in process" after having been "in progress" since november. I was so excited, but after reading the past few posts, there's apparently some other combination of "applicant/application (is) in process/progress" out there. Could anyone help me out here? I'm sorta freaking out.![]()
Hey guys!
So, I'm trying to decide whether to apply to UMed or GMed. I'm equally interested in both kinds of medicine and trying to figure out which program to apply to.
1. Can you apply to multiple programs?
2. Which of the programs is more competitive? How competitive are each respectively?
3. Can someone in either program speak to how they think the program has helped them? Or, I suppose, not helped?
Any help you guys can offer would be great!! Thanks 🙂
Have you joined the facebook group yet? a current M1 posted a few weeks ago who is involved with UMed.. i bet she can help you out. Here is the link: https://www.facebook.com/groups/395521537197726/
Hey Guys,
Did everybody who was accepted received the "second look e-mail"? I haven't received it yet, and I am on the UPR-Rockford track.
Also did those who receive rejection letter have the additional correspondence tab?? I wonder if its really indicative of an acceptance.. Thanks!
I haven't received one either and I'm UPR-Peoria.
One person recently posted that they had that tab and got a rejection letter post-interview. It might be a couple of pages back if you want to review it.

I was told that only the Chicago track has second look. Not sure why, but they seemed pretty sure on the phone.

But then how do they interview people who are on the other tracks but are applying to Umed and Gmed?
Accepted in December and placed in UPR so idk how they make their decisions
You would be invited to attend Chicago's second look weekend.
Thanks!
I haven't gotten an invite though yet 🙁
UPR/Peoria track.
first come first serve is a lie.
I'm assuming the official invite will come to us closer to the date, once they have sent out IIs to all the people the program wants to interview.
Have you scheduled yours yet?
OOS and just received my award letter..all loans! 🙁
email or snail mail?

Where did you get your UIN to activate your account to see the award letter? It says it should be on your acceptance letter but it is not.

Agh, no, I haven't gotten an interview invite for Umed! Have you gotten one? (and are you also a UPR track?)
lol more cause for concern!!
+1. ~96,000 COA per year. All loans 😱
60 grand in loans for in-state? No thanks!
The only way is to marry an Illinois resident. I'd suggest starting with match.com, but then again after almost $100,000 a year I don't know if you'll have enough left for the subscription fees! For OOS....what are you doing about the insane 96k COA?! are there any ways to become IL resident after a year?

Does anyone know the OOS post interview acceptance rate??
For everyone that is surprised by the COA at University of Illinois, while I agree that this COA is outrageous, this information was easily accessable before you applied and interviewed. If the COA was unacceptable, you should have evaluated this before you applied and interviewed at the school, not once you have taken a seat that would happily been filled by an IS student.
Regardless, I wish you the best of luck whereever you choose to attend medical school next year!
i was fully aware of the coa at uic, especially for oos students. I was holding out to see if i would receive any non-loan based aid via grants or scholarships. I absolutely loved my interview at uic, and if it was the only place i was accepted, i would be happily attending. It's just hardeto justify the high coa and future loan debt when compared to other oos programs i've gotten into. Lots of decisions to make in the coming months/weeks as more financial information arrives!

While I agree nobody should really be surprised by the COA, I don't think that should be a deterrent for applying. Some people may have applied anyway in hopes of getting a scholarship or something like that (no matter how unrealistic anyone else might feel this is). Seeing the amounts of loans you'd have is still alarming nonetheless.
FYI, I spoke with the admissions office, and she said we are all still being considered for scholarships. Some should be awarded by the end of the month, and some can be awarded by the end of April. Definitely in time for the May 15th deadline, but the award letter we received today is not final.
