Does anyone have any insight as to what these status changes mean? I called admissions yesterday and they said that I passed the first reviewer, and my status changed to "applicant in process" after having been "in progress" since november. I was so excited, but after reading the past few posts, there's apparently some other combination of "applicant/application (is) in process/progress" out there. Could anyone help me out here? I'm sorta freaking out. :scared:

I've been "applicant in progress" since November as well, still hoping for good news! :xf: From SDN posts and my own statuses, this is what I have gathered. "Application in process" means your file is complete and ready for review. "Applicant in progress" means your app has been sent to admissions, BUT it hasn't been looked at yet. Some people have said this is when "reviewer 1" looks at it and screens applicants for the next phase. "Applicant in process" is the next step. Your application is being reviewed and could lead to an interview (yay) OR back to "applicant in progress" (for more review) OR back to "application in process" (for most people this has been a rejection). Don't get your hopes up based on this, but either way, "applicant in progress" to "applicant in process" has usually been a good thing. Good luck!

Hey guys!

So, I'm trying to decide whether to apply to UMed or GMed. I'm equally interested in both kinds of medicine and trying to figure out which program to apply to.

1. Can you apply to multiple programs?

2. Which of the programs is more competitive? How competitive are each respectively?

3. Can someone in either program speak to how they think the program has helped them? Or, I suppose, not helped?

Any help you guys can offer would be great!! Thanks 🙂

Have you joined the facebook group yet? a current M1 posted a few weeks ago who is involved with UMed.. i bet she can help you out. Here is the link: https://www.facebook.com/groups/395521537197726/

Anyone else still application is in process? I have been expecting a rejection but going on 2 weeks now I'm a little confused. PLEASE INTERVIEW ME, haha.

Also did those who receive rejection letter have the additional correspondence tab?? I wonder if its really indicative of an acceptance.. Thanks!

Hey Guys,

Did everybody who was accepted received the "second look e-mail"? I haven't received it yet, and I am on the UPR-Rockford track.

I haven't received one either and I'm UPR-Peoria.

One person recently posted that they had that tab and got a rejection letter post-interview. It might be a couple of pages back if you want to review it.

I was told that only the Chicago track has second look. Not sure why, but they seemed pretty sure on the phone.

But then how do they interview people who are on the other tracks but are applying to Umed and Gmed?

+1, having a hard time deciding whether to apply to Gmed or not, I applied to Umed last month because it is my initial/main passion, but I am also definitely going to do global health work during my career and have more experience in that area! Also...maybe its less competitive? better to have one cool program than none at all XD....but is it okay to apply to both? Would that make me look like I don't know what I'm doing (the Dean told me this when I asked)? I think it just means that I care about both areas !

Accepted in December and placed in UPR so idk how they make their decisions

+1

first come first serve is a lie.

BUT, can someone that goes to Peoria elaborate on that experience? I am petitioning for Chicago for various reasons but after looking up OSF St. Francis I am intrigued...they seem to have much more resources than the UIC medical center in Chicago. For instance, trauma center and more tertiary care stuff (whatever that means???) I really want to learn more about the experience there. What is it like having only 50 classmates? is it also Pass/Fail? is it ranked? etc etc...

ALSO, anyone get scholarships or aid? how does that work here? I know Illinois is broke as a state, but by doing research apparently UIC actually has over 300 mil lying around doing nothing...and they want to raise the tuitions..pfft. 🙁

Thanks!

I haven't gotten an invite though yet 🙁

UPR/Peoria track.

I'm assuming the official invite will come to us closer to the date, once they have sent out IIs to all the people the program wants to interview.

Have you scheduled yours yet?

Agreed.

On another note, to clarify: accepted UPR-track students are *not* invited to the second look at all (assuming they aren't interviewing for any of the special programs)?

Sad. 🙁

Thanks PaperSnowAGhost, I'm still freaking out though. AHHHH!! I guess we're both still stuck in the waiting game at this point. I hope you hear some good news soon.

Kind of odd for there to be no second look for the other campuses considering all the questions people probably have..

I'm going to the Chicago 2nd Look but only because I'm interviewing for UMed.

I guess to clarify: have Chicago track acceptees already received an invitation to second look? If not it might just be on its way later.

Also, it seems odd that UPR people wouldn't be invited at the Chicago second look... after all, a lot of schools invite people who are on the waitlist, who aren't even accepted.

Does anyone know if people who are assigned to UPR would be able to set up a tour or anything of those campuses?

Agh, no, I haven't gotten an interview invite for Umed! Have you gotten one? (and are you also a UPR track?)

lol more cause for concern!!

Where did you get your UIN to activate your account to see the award letter? It says it should be on your acceptance letter but it is not.

It is on the award letter email...should be right under your name

Yeah. I got my invite about a week after submitting my application. And I am assigned to Peoria.

+1. ~96,000 COA per year. All loans 😱

Me too!

I interviewed on 2/15 and was given my first preference of Chicago. I know people were discussing whether or not Chicago was first-come first serve basis, but it appears it is not.

woah, man, how is the cost so high?

Alright, that makes more sense. I thought it wasn't including housing.

I am not a clever man.

The sad part is, however, its still cheaper than most Illinois Schools.

For OOS....what are you doing about the insane 96k COA?! are there any ways to become IL resident after a year?

The only way is to marry an Illinois resident. I'd suggest starting with match.com, but then again after almost $100,000 a year I don't know if you'll have enough left for the subscription fees!

sadly...this insane COA will probably mean I'll have to consider my other med school options...

For everyone that is surprised by the COA at University of Illinois, while I agree that this COA is outrageous, this information was easily accessable before you applied and interviewed. If the COA was unacceptable, you should have evaluated this before you applied and interviewed at the school, not once you have taken a seat that would happily been filled by an IS student.

Regardless, I wish you the best of luck whereever you choose to attend medical school next year!

i was fully aware of the COA at UIC, especially for OOS students. I was holding out to see if I would receive any non-loan based aid via grants or scholarships. I absolutely loved my interview at UIC, and if it was the only place I was accepted, I would be happily attending. It's just hardeto justify the high COA and future loan debt when compared to other OOS programs I've gotten into. Lots of decisions to make in the coming months/weeks as more financial information arrives!

While I agree nobody should really be surprised by the COA, I don't think that should be a deterrent for applying. Some people may have applied anyway in hopes of getting a scholarship or something like that (no matter how unrealistic anyone else might feel this is). Seeing the amounts of loans you'd have is still alarming nonetheless.

FYI, I spoke with the admissions office, and she said we are all still being considered for scholarships. Some should be awarded by the end of the month, and some can be awarded by the end of April. Definitely in time for the May 15th deadline, but the award letter we received today is not final.
