Received my acceptance packet when I came back from vacation late last night. Pretty out-of-body feeling.

ETA: I also never got a call, but that might have been because I was away from cell service Thursday and Friday.

Congrats!

If you wouldn't mind, could you tell us who your adcom interviewer was?

Received my acceptance packet on Friday 10/19 and got a call from Dr. Bashford on Saturday. I interviewed 9/18 with Dr. Bashford.

Good luck to everyone!

Congrats, didn't know they call on days other than Monday as well.

Rejected via snail mail. The letter was postmarked 10/18, but I hadn't checked my mail for a few days.
In-state, URM, 3.9, 39, interviewed 9/17

Honestly, I can't think of anything that the rejection could have been based upon. Both interviews seemed to go really well but that is just my opinion. UNC was one of my top choice schools so this news is disappointing to say the least, but at least I have other prospects.

Anyways, congrats to those admitted and good luck to those still waiting. Too bad I won't be joining you guys.

Wow. I can't believe that. Sorry about the news. It seems like you are having a great cycle though so I wouldent worry too much.

😱 With those stats and in state?

Only response I can think of is...WTF UNC!?

I'm really sorry to hear that. You'll get into a great school though, probably one better than UNC (though almost certainly much more expensive, unfortunately).

Your post just scared the **** out of everyone in this thread, btw.

I don't even understand how this is possible. Those stats will get you into top tiers. There's no way you get rejected from an in state school. The only thing I can think of is that UNC now rejects applicants it thinks are too good to be true. Either that or there's something you're not telling us

Yeah, I have no idea why they would reject him/her.

xochimilco, e-mail or call UNC and ask why they rejected you. Schools are usually willing to do this.

Troll? I have never heard of UNC giving post-interview rejections this early. Some come in February, but almost all are saved for April.

I was actually wondering this. I though unc constantly rolls over your app until end of interview season

They do. Last year a batch of rejections/waitlists came out Feb. 1st and another came on April 1st.

Regardless of whether he/she is telling the truth or trolling, stats aren't (even nearly) everything guys.

I also received my acceptance packet in the mail without any prior phone call or email. It was postmarked Oct. 18 so I probably got it on Friday, but I didn't check my mail until yesterday and spent the whole weekend stressing...go figure.

So excited! If anyone wants details, I'd be happy to share more info through PM. I only ask that you tell me your interview date so that I won't feel like I might be unknowingly talking to someone I've met if we were there the same day...

Would you mind stating who ur adcom member was please? Maybe stats as well. Big congrats on the acceptance

Will someone please tell me what a Troll is in the context of its use on SDN. Also, beyond what one can gather from the website, how long does it take to decide whether a reapplicant who submitted a secondary is invited for an interview? I am a reapplicant, any advice from current/former reapplicants is greatly appreciated.

An SDN troll (and an internet troll in general) is someone who creates unnecessary conflict, sometimes for fun, or sometimes just to push peoples' buttons (some people just like to watch the world burn haha). On SDN, a troll might be someone who posts fake stats and/or deliberately silly questions or statements. An example: "omfg I got a 44T MCAT and 4.0 GPA from Harvard...can I get into med school!?!?!?" Some more "subtle" SDN trolls might simply post deliberately misleading information, like "Med school X is finished offering interviews," or "I got into hopkins with a 2.9 gpa and 26 mcat."

It seems to take longer for re-applicants to hear about interview invites. In my case, a friend and I submitted secondaries on the same day, and he's not a re-applicant. He got an II the next day and it took mine a few weeks. Remember, UNC is very re-applicant friendly, so if you have even moderately competitive stats you should eventually hear back, but it might take a little longer than for a first-timer.

When did you submit your primary/secondary? Last year, I was a reapplicant and was rejected less than 2 weeks after submitting my primary. This year I got a secondary about 2 weeks after submitting my primary and was invited for an interview a couple of weeks after that.

If you haven't been rejected yet, I would assume they are still considering you, but haven't made a decision. If it's been a while since you've heard anything from them, you might want to consider sending an update letter or something like that. Making major improvements on your application is critical as a reapplicant to UNC.

You might also want to check out the forums from the last couple of years to get an idea for how long it takes between secondary and II.

It's true that UNC seems to view reapplicants as determined and persistent in their drive to become physicians. I think I've mentioned before that out of the 20 or so UNC reapplicants that received interview invites on SDN in the last two years combined, 15 were accepted.

However, there is a caveat to this. As a reapplicant, you absolutely MUST improve the weak areas of your application from the year before to get an invite. You can't submit the same application and expect different results. Even if you were given an interview the year before, you won't get another one unless they see improvement. But, once you get to the interview stage as a reapplicant, it appears to be a plus.

To those who received acceptance packets in the mail, did yours include an acceptance form? Mine did not and I'm not sure where to find it so I can fill it out within the 2 week time limit. Any help?

So, is the committee meeting again this monday? New batch of acceptances next week?

I think so. It looks like they met on the 15th based on all the acceptances last week, so they should be meeting again on the 29th.

I really wish they'd at least tell us when the committee meets and get rid of that part of our uncertainty. Meanwhile, I'm pretty sure our mailman thinks I'm stalking him. . .

You know, I just went and browsed last year's thread to get an idea of how long I'd probably have to wait before possibly receiving an acceptance, and it was a sad sight to behold...

With my low stats, if I have any chance of acceptance I'm probably going to have to wait until late February or March, even with an early October interview 🙁

Going to be a LONG few months.

Nah, I bet you'll hear by November at the latest. Your stats are actually identical to the average matriculant at UNC. 👍

I've mostly looked at reapplicants in years past (as a reapplicant myself), but stats don't seem to correlate to strongly with wait time between interview and decision. A number of folks with stats below yours waited less than 30 days and others with high stats had to wait 90. Roughly half of them were accepted after 2 adcom meetings following their interview. A few found out after only 1 meeting and the rest were between 3 and 5.

I think KDizz is right. At this point, post interview, stats become less important (still important, but less so than pre-interview).

My stats are a bit below average at UNC, but I feel like until January they're still only looking at the 3.8/37 applicants. I think it also depends a bit on when your adcom is able to get to the meetings, and I haven't heard much about Dr. Faulk, so I don't know if she's been able to make it to a lot of meetings.

Your MCAT is just 1 below avg, but cgpa is right there with the matriculant avg. It doesn't make sense for UNC to look for people in the top 5th percentile until January (especially for instate). I'm sure you will hear back by January.

Plus, you must be a strong applicant in other respects as well to be interviewed in early October. And remember, the 10th percentile for MCAT at UNC is 28. I know lots of folks with low 30's MCAT's and average GPA's who were accepted early in the cycle--and quite a few with above average stats who had to wait longer. The ways of the adcom are certainly mysterious...

I do know that some folks heard much later because their adcom interviewer was out of town or something like that, but I don't think that's real common.

Quick and likely pointless question:
Nontrad OOS with neither a secondary nor a rejection. Is it safe to assume I've been rejected silently at this point? AMCAS primary submitted in the summer.

Thanks, y'all.

UNC has sent out rejections for OOSers already. So this means you're probably still in the running.

Thanks. Figured they just forgot about me. Wonder how late they send out secondaries...

It's going to be a big night for some of us.

I haven't yet hit the stage where I ogle my phone constantly, all day. I think I may hit that point starting on the Mondays in January..

Yeah, I doubt I'll be getting a call tonight either...I don't think I'll be able to think about much else every other Monday for a while. Hopefully some other SDNers will hear some good news! :luck:

Yea, don't think I am second batch material, so will have to wait longer. I'm sure some SDNers will hear today. Makes for a great Halloween present.

Ah i hope I do. Otherwise I think I'll be waiting for quite some time. I interviewed the first week so it would mean they bumped me 🙁

ugh, I was there that day as well. Really wishing I had had a different adcom, or just done better with mine. This process is painful.

congrats to those of you having a great evening- still hoping to join you there next fall

Same I was there the first week as well. I'm sure we will hear soon! Stay positive!
