Did anyone get another fafsa email? We aren't supposed to do anything for a while right?

yeah I got another one yesterday. There's nothing we CAN do until next year's opens in January and even they you'll have to wait until your and/or your parents' tax returns are complete. One thing you could do is just give your parents a heads up that you'll need their info as early as possible this year just so they're not planning on waiting until April 15th to finish their taxes.

Does anyone know how you find out who your adcom interviewer was?

I feel kind of stupid now. I don't remember them telling us, though.

Joni James told us each who our adcom was - you might be able to email her and ask. If you throw names out here I'm sure someone can confirm who the adcom is though, for example, mine was Dr. Church- if he interviewed you, he was your adcom.

Yeah, I second this...I think Joni wouldn't mind telling you who your ADCOM member was.

So I recently interviewed at UNC, and lo and behold, my ADCOM interview didn't go very well haha. Out of the 14 people I've interviewed with in the last two years, my only two bad interviews were with ADCOM members at UNC. I swear there is an institutional directive there against me; I also failed to get into UNC for undergrad, despite having excellent qualifications. 🙂 Ah well, what can you do?

Also, there really was a lot of downtime at UNC. Some people had to wait almost two hours for their first interview, so make sure you have some good reading material to go over!

Yeah, the AdCom interview was definitely tough - I thought mine went pretty well, but it was certainly one of the sharper interviews I've had. I actually liked it; it kept me on my toes and really forced me to think instead of kind of going back to my stock answers - I felt a little like a politician being caught speaking candidly!

Hopefully I wasn't as damaging, though. 🙂

I think Dr. Passannante was my adcom, but I'm not sure. I also had Dr. Fowler. Did anyone else have either of them and know who is on the adcom?

To throw your own advice back at you, there is no way to know what the adcom thought of you. I'm sure you will come back and say you were accepted in a few weeks time. On the bright side, you have plenty of interviews.

Interesting...last year Dr. Fowler was my adcom...how do you feel like you did with him? Also, he might not be your adcom; sometimes they switch around, so it could still be worth an email to Joni to find out.

Haha, you are absolutely right. And for those reasons, I didn't leave feeling upset, just a little let down since UNC is pretty much home for me. But you are right, maybe I did better than I realized, and I am fortunate to have received a comfortable number of interviews elsewhere.

In any case, good luck to all of us next week! :luck:

Yeah, I know at least 2 people from last years thread had Dr. Passannante for their adcom (they were both also reapplicants). So, I'm not sure.

I definitely felt like my interview with Dr. Passannante went better than the one with Dr. Fowler. I just completely lost my train of thought in the middle of several questions with him. I felt like such an idiot. But, it was my first interview in 1.5 years. I don't know. Like everyone said, it is hard to tell. The "nightmare interview moments" gives me some perspective:laugh:

But at least the one with Dr. Passannante went well. Can't complain.

Dr. Faulk was my adcom member, and she was very nice. I actually felt like my interview with her went better than the one with the non-adcom member. I felt better prepared to answer her questions.

Is it worth sending UNC an update letter? I recently got another poster publication and was wondering if it is worth informing them about it. I can also include some shadowing experience that I have gained since submitting the primary. Is this worth an update letter or should I wait until I get something more significant like a publication?

I would wait; Joni actually told our group that UNC isn't very open to updates, so unless you have something truly substantial, I would hold off.

fwiw, interviewed a few weeks ago; Dr. Fowler was my Adcom member.

For those of you who submitted the residency form, did you get any sort of confirmation afterwards that you qualified for in state tuition? Just wondering if they confirm your residency after you submit the form.

The residency form is only for tuition purposes, not acceptance. You won't hear anything about it unless you are accepted.

The exception to this is if you did not adequately complete it. In most cases, they will ignore the blanks and go ahead with the determination of your status, but if large blocks of it are incomplete they may ask you to send another one. However, in this case, no word means everything is good. If you don't qualify for in-state tuition then you'll find out after acceptance, at which point you'll have to appeal.

I recieved a letter via snail mail saying I had been classified as in state for tuition purposes. I haven't been accepted, so I would say that you should hear about residency but being classified as in state isn't an acceptance.

Yeah, this is what I recall happening last year.

I was almost asleep last night when I remembered, oh, it's Friday, it's the weekend! It's the weekend before Monday the 15th! I don't know what I'm going to do if it takes until March or April to hear from UNC. I saw people on last years thread who waited that long and still got in, but I'm pretty sure I'll lose my mind if it takes that long: so call me maybe?

Based on what I've seen in previous years' threads, the acceptance calls will go out every two weeks, on Mondays, in roughly the evening. Most people have gotten their calls between 5 and 8 p.m., from what I can see.

I think some folks will hear today. In the last couple of years they have made the first calls on the first Monday on or following October 15th.

looking at last year's thread, it also seems like some people were notified of acceptances by email, not necessarily on mondays

any news yet?
the suspense is killing me.... 😕😕😕

So they're not sending out acceptances today? When do you think we'll start hearing?

I was talking to a friend who interviewed there recently (last week maybe) and they said that at their interview they were told the committee was meeting today to decide on a first batch of applicants. I don't know how true this is but maybe we will hear this week or next Monday.

Hopefully they'll start calling people this week and not wait until next week to do their Monday thing.

Just called the admissions office and they said they haven't made any calls yet! So I guess that may happen later today

Did they indicate when they would make calls? (ie did they say that they might start calling today?)

Yes, they said that the adcom was taking a "breather." I didn't want to push it but I got the impression that they would start making calls later today.

Weird that they would wait until yesterday to start making decisions when some of us interviewed over a month ago-
I hope they got through a lot of applications, and that they don't stick to this every-other Monday thing!

*Fingers crossed* Thanks, brave soul, for calling. I couldn't work up the nerve.

haha, you're welcome. I, of course, didn't give my name when I called. good luck everyone!! please post if you hear anything.

I just realized that I put down my boss's office phone number instead of the lab number on my secondary. Now every time I hear her phone ring I'm going to wonder .. . and she's out of town for the next two weeks! Hopefully they'll use my cell # if they try to call at all. . .

Haha I imagine they'd use your cell. Plus from what I've heard calls are usually in the evening. I doubt they'd call ur work first after hours. You'll be fine!

Ha I know, I emailed Ms. James anyway, hoping that perhaps she'd respond with a "don't worry, they'll call your cell phone tonight"

hahahahh riiiiight

wow she replied already:
.Thanks but if we need to call we will usually call your number on AMCAS.

.
I'm going to try and not read too much into that- but it's not the promising tone I'd hoped for. Also, if I got a reply in 5 minutes, I think she must be bored- some more folks should call and beg for details about admissions. . .
