Fingers crossed!!!! Uhhh today makes me sad.

me too 🙁
was pretty relaxed through the first one, but really thought today could be the day. looking at last year's thread though, many early september interviewees got in in November, so hopefully the next meeting will be the one!

You guys remember that last batch they had quite a few go through snail mail. No phone call.

hehe- hopefully we all get in and then can have an "SDN coming out happy hour" during orientation where we all wear nametags w/ our usenames 😀

Haha that would be amazing. Wish I did better with my Adcom as well. Maybe better news in 2 weeks?

true- but I want a call!! It would be the best phone call I've ever gotten! Though if I got in and found out via snail mail, I'd get over it pretty fast 😉

I'm hoping you're right! The people that got in seem to have pretty high stats, so maybe they're only considering super stars thus far.

Truthie, but it appears that my particular adcom has been calling people today, so I don't think it's happening for me this time.

That's true. Do you know if UNC sends out rejections or are we kept in consideration till march?

I don't think they're sending out rejections just yet (at least post-interview).

Last year a number of folks who interviewed in September found out between December and January. Still...waiting just down right sucks.

Time to send an interest letter. Let the shameless begging commence:

Dr. Church for me. The most awkward interview I've had thus far.

...This just made me feel so much better. I thought it was just me. I didn't know what to make of that interview and have been second-guessing everything I was asked/said since I interviewed.

(I have been debating for a long time about whether or not I wanted to make an SDN account, but this decided it for me.)

Got the call tonight as well, so excited! Interviewed 10/9, adcom was Dr. Falk. Good luck to everyone waiting.

Oh no! She was my adcom, and I interviewed on 10/2. 🙁

Congrats to you though

Hang in there everyone! Having (unsuccessfully) weathered UNC's admissions process last year, I can tell you that the temporal pattern of acceptances can be quite arbitrary. You could have interviewed in September and not hear about an acceptance until spring. UNC is one of the slower schools, and (for better or for worse), not hearing back soon after your interview isn't necessarily a "hold." Definitely don't count yourselves out this early in the process!

Also, FWIW, Joni told our interview group that we should not send letters of interest unless we have something truly substantive to add to our files.

I too am eagerly awaiting a response after interviewing in early October! My ADCOM was Dr. Houpt...anyone else have him?

Joni mentioned the interest letter issue for our group as well. However, several first years that spoke to me throughout the interview day indicated that they had sent interest letters after being forced to wait and saw positive results....so idk. I assume it can't hurt, at any rate.

Yeah but this is way to soon. Give it until January at least IMO I mean there have only been two batches. It's October still haha

I totally agree that it's too soon, especially when you consider UNC's slowness. It is highly likely the committee hasn't even discussed many of our files yet. As for the statement that a letter "can't hurt," that's probably true, but considering what Joni said about LOIs, you might irritate someone by sending one this early. Good luck! :luck:

Fwiw, I sent a LOI at the end of August. I called a couple of weeks later to make sure it got there. I talked to Eric and he said they normally can't accept them, but I got an interview invite a couple of days later. Don't know if it made a difference, but I agree that it almost certainly won't hurt--as long as it is well written, professional, and polite.

A lot of schools discourage LOIs because it's not uncommon for applicants to unintentionally put their foot in their mouth or make some other unfortunate mistake--from grammar errors to using the wrong school name (I actually almost did this, my wife caught the mistake at the last minute) to much worse. As someone in pre-allo said "every contact with the school is an opportunity to make a fool out of yourself". I really think that is the only time that it could actually hurt you, though. Chances are, the worst that will happen is nothing. But if you send one, I would get several people to read it over first--people you know will be honest with you about the quality of the letter and who will catch careless errors like the above mentioned.

Grab, I think you're one of the high stat applicants that could be on the lookout for a snail-mail acceptance sometime this week. Some people apparently didn't get calls, and your stats are very high. Just sayin'... 🙄

Haha that'd be great. Guess we will see. I hope u hear soon to as well!

Mailman just pulled up and walked up to the house to drop off a white envelope too large to fit in our mailbox. My heart jumped into my throat and the adrenaline started rushing. And then I saw the return address from my high school and realized it was just another envelope full of crap asking me for money. :bang:

I need to get better at this waiting thing.

Premed horror stories.

Appropriate, considering the date

Got my phone call today while working at the bar. On Halloween. In a boy scout costume (technically Sam from Moonrise Kingdom). Def does not fit the predicted every other Monday pattern that I was expecting. Keep your head up high, loves--ignore expecting a call or a package in the mail and just live your life. It'll happen.

Congrats! I'm guessing everyone in the bar got free shots. Would you mind telling us your adcom and interview date please?

I got the trick, and you got the treat- congrats!

Preach it! "Just live your life:" I can tell you from my experience last year that this is some great advice for enduring the waiting game! Oh, and of course, congratulations. 🙂

Submitted my secondary 9 weeks ago and haven't heard anything. What should I do?

Haha, just got another email about filling out the FAFSA...guess they really want us to fill it out! 🙂

yup, 4th one- you know what UNC, I'll be thrilled to fill out my FAFSA, after you send me an acceptance letter. Also, it's not even available til January, so what is with the constant emails?

Same

I think what happens is instead of removing the people from the email list who have already received the email, they just add on the new people who haven't received the email yet, resulting in mass emails to an increasingly long list of applicants.

Rejected today, OOS - stats in MDApps. A friend of mine goes here for pharmacy school and LOVES it. Too bad for the in-state preference, otherwise I would have enjoyed being able to visit and check it out.

For the secondary, is it 150 words for all three prompts or 150 words for each prompt?

Rejected, OOS, 3.85/36Q. Too bad, I really would have loved to be at UNC.

Sorry to everyone getting rejected. The feeling sucks!! I was wondering when you submitted your secondary? I submitted in mid-August and no II or rejection from UNC, also OOS.

Got the acceptance call on 10/29 and received my package today

Got an interview invite today! OOS, super excited!! Looked at the itinerary and only saw a start time. Roughly when do the activities end? Trying to figure out flight times.

it really depends on your interview time (which can be as early as 11 and as late as 3)... but you can expect to leave campus no later than 4. If you must catch the plane before then they are pretty nice about it and allow you to swap interviews with another person

I would simply call Joni (the interview coordinator) I interviewed OOS and she did everything she could to make my visit as easy as possible, she even called a few days before to talk about my interview times with me because she was worried about my schedule. Everyone at UNC was extremely helpful and my visit instantly jumped UNC up my list.
