Last year according to Us news reports. 160 in state matriculated. 200 instate accepted. I'm not sure if this includes those accepted off the wait list. Regardless, it's not 90% yield. Wait list isn't a death sentence guys

Close ties to the school.

I would never post anything I didn't know for certain. Hopefully the info is helpful to those still waiting.

It is helpful, thank you. Depending on the nature of your ties, perhaps for next year you could suggest a simple update page like ECU's to eliminate a ton of speculation?

Looks like final rejects went out like 4/4 last year? Are you sure this was the last meet / rejections will probably go out today?

Yes, Monday's was the last meeting. There is normally a 1-2 week gap between the final meeting and notification of R/WL - I believe to allow the committee to compile the WL itself.

I believe SSCCSS has some inside info, so I'd assume that it was in fact the last meeting. It may take them a few days to sort out the reject/waitlist. Also, it seems they've been rejecting more people throughout the process this year. In the past there was just one wave around the holidays and another in April, so maybe they've done the bulk of their rejections already (though I'm sure some will come this afternoon).

You're correct, UNC has rejected people throughout the cycle this year - something new for them. How many they've rejected, I don't know. I would assume there are still quite a few to give out, unfortunately.

has anyone been waitlisted yet? i don't think so...

regardless, no idea what it even means to be waitlisted at UNC. their yield must be in the 90%'s so waitlist is basically a rejection.

The WL is still being made. Rejection and WL notifications come out at the same time in late March/early April. Though applicants have been rejected on an ongoing basis for a while now, there is only one WL notification date - unless something has changed.

Apparently, yield and the number of applicants accepted off the WL varies from class to class. In recent years they've taken as few as 5-6 to as many as 15-20. There certainly is a chance, though it's tough to know how much movement there will be.

UNC is in that unique position where its cost and reputation attract pretty exceptional candidates who often leave only after being offered money to another top school late in the spring. This year's class is apparently quite competitive; therefore, it stands to reason some people currently holding acceptances will be eligible for scholarships that may lure them to a Hopkins or Penn. In that case, several spots may open up for the WL.

Thank you for the inside scoop. Do you by chance happen to know if the wait list is ranked? If you have any other information to share I'm sure we will all be eternally grateful. Thanks again.

No problem.

As for the WL, believe it or not, I do not know how they form the list or how they select applicants when seats become available.

Male Church applicant here as well, no love for me either I suppose. Pretty confused as I actually felt that the interview went well.. way back on Sept. 19

I had Passannante. 11/14. He doesn't seem to be promoting many of the applicants (well on SDN anyway).

Another Church applicant here as well, interviewed in September. Hoping for at least a waitlist at this point.

My committee member, Dr. Woodard, has not been mentioned in the thread at all. Not sure what to make of that.

FWIW I had Passannante as well. He was definitely one of my more detached interviewers and it was hard to get a lock on him. I sort of came out thinking that it was my most run-of-the-mill, average interview (besides an interview I had at another school that for the life of me I can't recall anymore).

Exactly! It was really strange. He didn't really seem all that interested in what I had to say. My second interview couldn't have gone better.

Oh my goodness, I cannot tell you how relieved I feel that I was not the only one who felt that way! He didn't even take the time to read my application before he interviewed me.

Got an email from Ms. Randee Reid, inviting me to second look. Does UNC not send out an official acceptance letter or have a web portal that officially states one's application status?

Surprised I was accepted, since I haven't heard from UNC since December and they told me that I was still under review. My stats: OOS from CA, 3.7/37, interesting ECs, average LoRs, interviewed Monday of Thanksgiving week.

Close friend of mine got an acceptance via email today. 29 January interview.

UNC's acceptance notification process is pretty rough around the edges. I didn't find out I was accepted until I received a call from the desk clerk at the financial aid office asking me about my AMCAS address. When I asked why they were asking, they told me I had been accepted - they didn't realize I hadn't found out yet. I didn't ever get an email or any other phone call!

Yup, both of what you guys said was true for me too. He didn't read my application beforehand or seem engaged with me either. It definitely wasn't a reflection on your interview performance. Those interviews are the scariest, and Bluewrx, like you, my second interview was so relaxed I actually had FUN!

Several people got accepted by email today. Seems like this is the last of the acceptances and everyone else is going to be wait listed or rejected. I'm sad.

Congrats to all those accepted! I will be wearing out the F5 button on my laptop for the rest of the day.

Well its been a long 8 weeks, I'll be happy to hear anything from UNC. (interviewed in September)

spoke to Mr. Schuler- he said they're going to try and have ALL decisions out by the end of the month, but there are still some seats left. will be keeping my fingers crossed until the 30th!

Thanks for the info! Hoping to hear some good news as well!

Correct. He was out of town and not at the last meeting so some of his students had not found out on monday.

Did you send in any update/interest letters to the admissions office during your waiting period? Just curious…

Yeah, UNC can be super wonky. The phone call from your adcom is a tradition but not official SOP. Most do it, some do not. The only guarantee is you'll eventually receive an acceptance package via snail mail.

Not sure why a school of this caliber would not adopt a more standardized process - an acceptance email from the admissions office preceding the snail package, a more user friendly application status portal, etc.

Congrats! You will receive an acceptance packet in the mail; however, considering Second Look is next weekend, I'm sure Randee was contacting you to give you as much time as possible to make travel arrangements if you wish to attend. Hope you do - Chapel Hill is a wonderful town, particularly in the spring.

UNC normally notifies admitted students via a phone call from their adcom interviewer and the office always sends out a packet. No applications status portal at this point and, as I've previously posted, the phone call is not 'required.' The amount of time you waited is normal for UNC. Congrats on the acceptance - quite the accomplished for an OOS applicant!

The committee interviewer called me later this morning, apologized because he was supposed to call yesterday but didn't have my phone number.

I'm glad to hear an official letter will be sent eventually.

I agree. And the interview day was the most watered-down that I experienced of all the schools I visited. Maybe they're just trying to save money or something.

Watered-down in what way? Legitimately curious. Happy to pass on applicant perceptions to the Office of Admissions.

Considering UNC interviews a ton of elite applicants - kids who interview at peers such as Hopkins, Pritzker, Michigan, etc - it's worth knowing how they could improve the experience considering the impression formed during that half-day can influence decisions down the line.

Has anyone been received rejection notice this week? Should I be concerned every time my phone vibrates with a new email?

Sitting in the interview room or lobby for 3 hours before my interview was mind numbing. Not to mention the reluctance of the staff to divulge any sort of details as to how admission decisions are reached. The main thing unc lacks is a system to update applicants as to what the status of their application is. Most schools have a portal system at least.

Sitting in the admissions suite for the whole day with only a small amount of contact with students and faculty (nobody talked in-depth about the school, and I really didn't come away with any additional information about the school), very brief tour of the campus (suggest creating a self-guided tour that students can take during their free time), no informational folders or brochures (besides the 1-page estimated budget sheet), etc.

These were my own personal perceptions. It's possible that others didn't feel that way.
