Has anyone heard back from UPenn post secondary? I sent mine in on 8-20 and have had no news yet. Thanks! 😕

You haven't been waiting very long. Calm down. If you read the thread, you will see that Penn has been issuing interview invitations for about a month.

I know it's difficult and I was pretty guilty of this myself, but try not to stress yourself out too much over waiting for a response. There are so many different factors that can dictate the length of time that it takes for the AdCom to make a decision regarding an interview invite. We learned today at a meeting with admissions staff that a team of 11 committee members is responsible for selecting applicants for interviews from the entire completed applicant pool, which has many thousands of applicants. So, you can imagine that it will take them a while to run through each application thoroughly.

In addition, even if you simply don't hear anything for months despite being complete for such a long period of time. that doesn't mean you're out of the running for an interview. I know of a number of people who received a notification (can't remember exactly when, but I want to say sometime in late November) saying that they had not been selected for an interview at that time, which in previous years, according to SDN, was a pretty good sign that you would not be receiving an interview invite. Well, in spite of that notice, these people received interviews and are now at Penn. My point being- try not to make yourself too crazy with reading into the wait/response time. It's something that's out of your control, and that doesn't necessarily mean bad news. Best of luck!

Penn hasn't even start interviews yet! I would not worry until a landmark date in mid-November, when Penn basically tells you if you've been passed over for an interview at that time. That said, even the 'status of death' isn't necessarily the death blow to your application. It is still possible to get an interview after that.

What does this "status of death" say exactly?

I don't remember exactly, but your status will update to something along the lines of "Penn has declined to offer you an interview at this time, but your application will remain on file and we will continue to review it."

Can't wait to read this status on my page!

What does this "status of death" say exactly?

It says this:

Dear not-quite-yet-rejected-applicant,
I don't know who you are. I don't know what you want. If you are looking for acceptance, I can tell you I don't have seats. But what I do have are a very particular set of skills; skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you let your application go now, that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don't, I will look for you, I will find you, and I will kill you.

Mine said, "The Committee on Admissions reviewed your application but has not invited you for an interview at this time. Additional reviews will occur and any change in your status will be communicated to you."

Here is some data to chomp on....

I am a first year her at Penn.

I had a 38+ and 3.95 from a decent school, and slightly above average EC's.

I got the letter of death in Nov.

I got II in early Jan.

Accepted in first pass, March 15th.

Nice chunk of scholarship money.

THIS IS A MARATHON. This is not a sprint, especially at schools like PENN, that do not accept till March.

Do not drive yourself NUTS over PENN. REMEMBER

1. Nobody accepted before March 15th
2. Many get II after the "Letter of Death"... therefore making the letter of death NOT a letter of death
3. Show interest, write letters to PENN while waiting. They WON'T make a huge diff, but what the heck
4. Be realistic... if you are 3.6 with a 32 MCAT and not a URM, you likely are not getting in here.... apply, sure... but focus elsewhere....
5. Get accepted SOMEWHERE.... then from there on out, everything, including PENN, is gravy.
6. Breath deep, drink plenty of fluids.

Does Penn screen for secondaries? I still haven't gotten one and I'm worried....

So, I'm pretty sure today was the first day of interviews for this season! Great to see all the new faces. Looking forward to an exciting year ahead and to meeting as many of you as I can. If anyone has any questions, feel free to post or PM me and I'd be happy to respond when I have a free moment (or especially when I don't have a free moment and I'm looking to procrastinate...). Best of luck to all!

Any idea of how many interviews have currently been handed out vs. how many are left? I understand Penn is non-rolling, but the pre-med in me can't resist asking.

Also, do you have any recommendations for places to stay/eat/visit during a trip to Philly? Thanks!

There are tons left, Penn typically extends interviews for dates only a few weeks in advance and holds interviews until January.

Stay with a student host! They'll have recommendations for everything else as well.

So I just finished the secondary prompt and was ready to do the application, I just realized I haven't been invited to complete the secondary- is it screened? I was verified on 9/15

Does Penn respond to in the area messages pre-interview invite? I'll be interviewing at Pitt nov 28th and its a long way from Texas.

Applicants are not screened, the email may have been trapped in a spam folder or misaddressed. Call up the office and double check.

Can't hurt to try!

Just got an interview invite! I could not believe it! Thank God!

Quick question, I can't go to the happy hour because I work and will have to travel after work. This is not a big deal right?

When were did you complete the secondary? Congratulations!

No problem at all- The happy hour is a completely optional, informal, non-admissions-related event. It's run by the MS1's. There's usually a handful of MS1's and interviewees there, and it's just a fun, stress-free way to meet some of the other applicants, and hear from current students.

Penn, why you show me no love...I went to a Quaker school =(

Also, I'm scheduled to interview the second week of October. Which I thought it was soon since my last interview invite was scheduled for Jan 11th.

Waiting until March for admissions decisions is going to seriously test my patience. In the ever-wise words of Tina Fey, "Nerds!"

Complete on 9/24.Penn is definitely a stretch for me. I know its a marathon. I ran cross country in high school, so I'm good.

For those who received interview invites, did your status page change at all? Right now, mine just says complete and in the screening process, and it has been like that for months.

Yeah, the status page changes

So who knows the numbers for interviewees and how many acceptances UPenn sends out...

lol nice touch with that last part

II, on All Hallows Eve, should be interesting 😛

Congratulations! When was your application complete?

Submitted the secondary 8/21/2012, LORs had been sent in around same time; but never actually got a 'You are complete email' although the site said I was in review when I checked last week

Wow interview day at Penn is an experience in it of itself! In anatomy lab they gave us aprons and gloves so we could get our hands deep in cadavers. There was also a sim lab where I played the ad lib talker, lol I had fun with that.. Lots of interesting applicants who have done amazing things, the most memorable interview i think I'll have!
