...so I decided to take a Greyhound my first time from the interview. Someone got up in the seat in front of me to go to the bathroom. He's now laying on the floor dead right outside the bathroom. Face is pale white. Makes me appreciate things a little more.

????

That was everyone's reaction on the bus. Driver pulled over on side of highway after noticing same guy was in the bathroom for over an hour. Opened the door to find him with no pulse....probably shot up in there and overdosed. Some people were crying. Police, ambulance, and coroner quickly came. Greyhound had to send a new bus. Sad situation all around.

But to something more relevant to this thread...do any Penn students know of people who were accepted without having offers from Harvard, Chicago, WashU, and the like? Both my interviews went great I felt. However, I didn't start any health clinic or have multiple first author pubs...and my stats are low for Penn to boot. Obviously, I'm keeping my expectations low post-interview. I was just happy to be there.

Yes. Current second year got into state school and Penn. Not kidding. Applied to many schools and that's how the cookie crumbled. The med school application process is absurd.

EDIT: The person I'm referring to is me btw.

If you were interviewed this early, the adcom must've saw something in your application worth noting. That said, the application process is a real crapshoot and impossible to predict.

Excuse me if I've missed this in a previous post, but where does the pre-interview happy hour take place? I know we meet at the Johnson Pavilion Security Desk, but where does it actually end up happening? I was thinking of ducking out of the happy hour early to sit in on a class that starts at 6 in Stemmler Hall.

It doesn't always happen at the same place. It's always a restaurant/bar, but the location changes from happy hour to happy hour. The only one I know off hand is Mad Mex, but there have definitely been others.

does anyone know what percentage of interviews Penn has given out? it's one of my top choices but so far haven't heard anything...

I'd like to know this too- are they half-way through their IIs? 3/4? 90%? I wish every school were as transparent about their process as Michigan.

I'd imagine they're somewhere between 1/2 and 3/4 through IIs. But that's a guess.

Penn started interviewing last week in September and will continue to interview every week through late January so there is plenty of time left.

I can't wait to hear from this school

Where is the pre-interview happy hour? I can't find any information about it online... was it in an email that they sent us?

When you log in and go to the "interview" tab, it says

Pre-Interview Happy Hour

Meet your fellow applicants and get a sense for Philadelphia and Perelman students before your interview day. Perelman students will give you a little taste of the social life here at Penn with a happy hour get-together. Meet at the Johnson Pavilion Security Desk (3610 Hamilton Walk) at 5 p.m. More details will follow in an email.

My application has not been complete for 9 weeks.... and I haven't heard anything back from Penn. Should I call them to check on the status of my application? :scared:

Perhaps you should...I was complete after a week or so, although that was all the way back in mid July. Going to "complete" shouldn't take all that long.

I'm going on just over 4 weeks of not being complete.

Sorry! I meant NOW complete, I received my completed email on 8/21. I have not heard back regarding an interview for 9 weeks.

Is Upenn receptive to in the area letters? This has probably come up before but I was wondering if people have heard back positively.

Nope, I emailed them about it once and they said that they review files in the order that they come in.

I got invited for an interview 13 days after being complete. I know Penn doesn't do rolling admissions, but is that a good sign? Sorry, I'm not trying to brag or anything but I haven't heard back from a lot of schools and I'm just looking for a shred of hope.

I received UPenn curriculum in the mail today... do all the applicants get this ???

Perhaps, Penn is my number one school and Ive heard from pretty much every school except them. All I can say is it's kinda a crapshoot.

Anybody at Penn know how admissions feels about a letter of interest? It's been several weeks since I submitted my stuff, and I know some schools really appreciate them.

schools like penn, harvard, stanford, and yale aren't receptive to letters of interest. these are the schools that everybody would die to go to, and thus they generally receive a ton of LOIs, so sending one is pretty insignificant. an update letter might be useful (though schools including michigan flat out ignore those), but simply a LOI is just wasting their time. even letters of intent are overlooked at those schools, but if you go any lower (i.e. rank below 20) a letter of interest/intent will get you exactly what you want.

Does anyone have suggestions for hotels to stay in for interviews? Thanks!🙂

My problem is that I tend not to get a good night's sleep if I stay with a student host. I wish I did. Any hotel suggestions? Thanks for your responses.

What do current students think of the preclinical grading system at Penn?
