2013-2014 Columbia University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I'm going to guess that within the next few days all decisions will be posted to the application portal. I'd imagine the process goes like this: 1) committee meeting(s) to make final decisions 2) compose and send letters 3) upload decisions to portal 4) have students/faculty call people to congratulate/answer questions.

Just speculating based on how I've heard other systems work.

Edit: In other words, I think all decisions will be uploaded to the portal this week.

I guess it's time to let any and all family/friends/acquaintances/anyone I happen to run into NOT to call me for the next few days...:nailbiting:

I wonder if they might be uploaded today since the letters were sent today (probably just me wishing)?

Not likely. This will be troll week. Review last year's thread haha.

I didn't take that as a troll post...but yes, please no trolling.

Did everyone complete the post-interview survey? I didn't and now I'm worried it may have affected my application just like what people are speculating with Duke's admissions. 😱

Why, why, WHY did I log on SDN this early. Now I'm going to freak out with every phone call (what area code should we be looking out for??) and email notification/frantically checking the application portal for the rest of the week.

Columbia is 212. Don't freak out about this like Duke. Columbia said nothing about the survey having any impact whatsoever whereas Duke explicitly stated it.

Seriously? Duke is upset if you don't fill out their survey? Seems kinda petty.

Hmmm so I guess they're not calling today? It seems kinda late by now.

That sinking feeling when someone else gets exactly what you want and you try your best to smile and pat them on the back...Just kidding, I am so excited for you and HOPE that we will be classmates, aka I get in too 😉 !!!!!!!

Edit* That made me sound like a jerk 🙂 CONGRATULATIONS, you have just achieved many a child's dream! I hope that you take yourself out to a nice restaurant tonight to celebrate!

Thanks everyone for the kind words. There has been no change on the portal.
WOWZA! Congratulations! BTW, have you had sent Columbia any correspondence in the month of Feb, i.e. LOI/ Updates, etc?
I ask b/c I feel quite aloof and disconnected from them, as if they've probably forgotten about me

I wonder if they are calling in order of interview date....in that case my fellow January interviewees have a long, nail-biting wait ahead of us!

Is anyone else refreshing this thread like a neurotic premed? :corny:
No, but checking my phone and making sure I don't miss any calls.

Although I have been checking the thread a few times today. I'm still waiting to hear from a second source that they were accepted. Especially by someone with more than 1 post in their history. Not that I doubt the other guy, but the truth shall go forth by two or three witnesses.

anyone besides wolf get a call?

also, what time would be the latest they would call?

Does "watching the thread" obviate the need to refresh? Will I get emails and not have to frantically refresh?

Edit: It does. Ok. Now, I can frantically refresh my email.

It is possible that all the people who are going to be calling were given an "all clear" to start calling but that most wouldn't want to start until tomorrow.

I am just as anxious as the rest of you but am also appreciating the humor in watching a group of very smart and talented people engage in idle speculation. LOL

Hey everyone, sorry for the delay (at work)
Not a troll. If you have any specific questions, please feel free to ask!

my guess is troll...
I sincerely doubt it -- sounded legit, especially since that M1 told us letters went out today. Still, it's very weird that there was only one call. My bet is that there will be many more tomorrow. (Pleeeeease call me!)

I just wish the process were a bit more transparent.... we might seem paranoid but we have waited so muchhhh

How do you all feel about the practice of calling for acceptances? I haven't had the pleasure of picking up an acceptance call this season, so I don't know, but do you think it's worth the extra wait? At this point, I would love a mass email so I don't have to freak out for the next however many days!

One call reported on SDN does not equal one call made to candidates. I ask this in all earnestness, what percentage of the 1000+ of us that were interviewed are on the board this afternoon? My guess is that it is a tiny percent. Engaging in some idle speculation of my own...while I think they are likely to make more acceptance calls, I am sure many more than 1 call has be made to-date.

Like many things about the CU process, I think it is well intended and wonderful in concept but less than perfect in execution. Another example, the seemingly personalized post-thank you note. While very thoughtful and well intended, also potentially misleading.

I think it is pretty silly... Time consuming for the committee and stressful for applicants. We are in 2014... just email >.<
