Since this thread has been quiet...
has anyone been rejected yet?

I don't think any rejections have been sent out (but correct me if I'm wrong), only acceptances and waitlists. This probably won't change until that class starts to really fill up

so where are the interviews held?

Interviews are held with alumni generally working somewhere in a city near the applicant. Or, if the applicant is from NY, they are often interviewed at the US office

Actually, the day after I asked that question, my friend was rejected. It's very odd because he has very good stats and got several US MD interviews. It's pretty hard to explain how they could reject someone as qualified as him especially after his interviewer told him he will have no problem getting in....

He got the letter via USPS regular mail btw.

They send rejections in the mail too? Do you mind sharing his stats?

wait, he got rejected from wait list? or just rejected?

I wouldn't underestimate the competitiveness of Sackler. When i interviewed my interviewer remarked that they had an influx in applicants this year which i'm sure came with an increase in average stats too. Still, it is possible he didn't do as well as he thought at the interview..

I think we should all just relax and hope for the best. Sorry but a random isolated case of rejection to "3.5 overall, 3.4 science. 33 MCAT" probably doesn't mean much.

I don't mean to get all conspiracy theorist... but something strange happened. At the very worst, he should have been waitlisted. To be the only confirmed case of a rejection... with his stats and background is very very odd.

I definitely think increased competitiveness is a factor that must be remembered this cycle. I will say though that in previous years' threads rejections didn't start coming out until July (for people on the waitlist at least). So they could be working a little differently this year with this influx of candidates, but who knows what small detail in your friend's app could have problematic for admissions.

My friend asked me to delete all his information from this forum. So I will be doing that now. Sorry all!

Any accepted students get any type of acceptance packet?

Aside from the acceptance letter I've received nothing yet. The office said that we would get an information packet in the next few weeks- but that was a few weeks ago so...

For those who are interested, here is the match list for this year which just came out:

http://sacklermedicine.us/match-day/

Many are saying that it was our best match ever at Sackler. As a side note, I'm a current first year student and couldn't be happier with my decision to come here. If any of you have any questions, feel free to message me. It may take me a while to respond since we are in exams at the moment, but i'll get back to you eventually.

Hi Everyone,

I was accepted to Sackler recently. I was wondering what grades are expected to be maintained in senior year in order to keep the acceptance. I foresee my worst grade being a B (maybe a C), with a bunch of A-'s and higher. On the acceptance letter all it says is: "your acceptance is contingent upon satisfactory completion of any academic studies now in progress." I called the admissions office and they acted like they had never heard such a question before (lol) so I did not get a straight answer. I was hoping anyone had any advice for me.

Thanks in advance!

From their response it seems as though you don't have much to worry about. Perhaps avoid the C if possible, but sounds like they've never denied someone post-acceptance based on this

I believe it's very high (>85%?). I don't think a school matching people into plastics, derm, etc. would have a crummy match rate.

Sackler emailed out the class of 2018 "Welcome Package" today. It seems like it's a month earlier than when info was sent out to accepted students in previous years' threads. Potentially some indication of how the class is filling?

doubt it

My friend is on the waitlist and I was just wondering if anyone has gotten off the waitlist yet or knows if there has been any movement. Thanks

Definetly US School! no question!
Not only is the program of any US school going to be better then Sackler, but Sackler graduates carry the IMG stigma for the rest of their lives.
Also of note although the match list may look good many of the students who get lucrative matches do so because of family connections. Many of the best students in my class did not match while others whose dads were faculty ended up with spots (not to say they were not good students too, but there is no way they would get those spots coming from Sackler without connections)
I myself just went through fellowship match and there is no question being an IMG is still affecting me and will probably affect me for the rest of my career.

I couldn't disagree more with this assessment. In fact, I would say a lot of the east coast, parts of california, and some southern schools recognize Sackler as a school on par with USMDs, they generally enjoy a reputation thats not shared with some of the Caribbean schools.

This year 2014, we matched 2 derms, 1 plastics. I am good friends with 2 of the derms and they took a year off, had >250's on their step1 and greater than 270's on step 2 with an outstanding record. They got these spots on their own accord. To assume that we have a strong match based on personal connections is absolutely unfounded and baseless. I also am in a competitive residency which I got based on merit and scores alone. Please back up your claims if you truly believe them!

People just like to rag on any school that isn't directly on American/Canadian soil or doesn't grant an M.D. At the end of the day, your chances at getting a residency spot (with the current rules) depend highly on what a given program director thinks and knows about your medical school program and your grades. The latter is directly in control of the student while the former isn't a problem for Sackler grads that want to match in NY state or California where Sackler grads are well known. To go far and say that Sackler is better than a US M.D school is a strech, it may be educationally superior than some schools, but graduating from an LCME accredited program with the same grades as a Sackler grad will undoubtedly put you at an advantage over the former. But who cares? If you go to Sackler with the intention of returning to NY (or NYC), or any of the other well known regions where Sackler grads match, you won't have any problems. And FYI, matching Derm, Plastics, etc is hard regardless of which medical school you went to.

Hey, anyone hear anything post pesach?
I interviewed in february and haven't received any news, wondering if they got around to reviewing those who have interviewed in february or later?
Has anyone interviewed from feb on heard anything?
Thanks
Again, congrats to those who've already been accepted!!

I also interviewed in early Feb and have gotten radio silence since then. Just spoke with the admissions office today, who told me that the committee met and made decisions last Thursday...but that they don't expect to send responses out until the second week of May...

Good luck to everyone else still waiting!

Did they give you any reasons for waiting that long? I interviewed March 28th, interviewer told me by the end of April.

Appreciate the info! Thanks agale14!!

Np. In early Feb my interviewer told me I'd probably hear by late March, which obviously didn't happen. Sounds like they were working through a large backlog then had to deal with Pesach as well. It's frustrating to have to wait another week or two knowing they've already made a decision, c'est la vie. Or since this is Sackler, I guess יהיה בסדר is more fitting...

Haven't heard anything since my interview in November. Anyone else in the same boat? Any idea what that means?

I know this thread is strictly Sackler, but is anyone here waiting on a response to then decide between Sackler and Technion?

I called the admissions office today, I interviewed March 28th, they said my file wouldn't be looked at till the next main meeting May 20th. Hopefully that helps anyone who interviewed around then.

Just got accepted today! Super excited. Can't wait to meet everyone!

Has anyone else who has applied to Sackler heard anything yet?
Did anyone here interview in either March, April, or May?

I interviewed in February and last week got an email saying I was wait listed. Anyone else on the wait list or know anything about how it has moved in previous years?
