2013-2014 University of Alabama Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
i have a question with letters:

-i have a letter packet from my undergrad. later on i got a letter from my research advisor but it's not in my letter packet. i want to send the letter packet and research letter. what should i do? Do i selectd letter packet and then include the letter id for the research letter too?

How did you guys handle # of instances for the activities? It didn't really make sense..for example, if I shadowed a doctor for two separate weeks what would I put? Other times, it's just ongoing activities that don't really have "instances" that don't go with it.

so i just submitted my secondary and it said "thank you, the first part of your application is done. it won't be considered complete until we have letters and a photo"?? in the secondary i designated my letters and also uploaded a photo, i don't know why it would say that?

does UAB send out complete emails or have a status page?

Mine said that as well. I think it just says that for everyone.

Does anyone know the word counts for the essays.

My status has said "secondary in process" for over a week now… is this normal? I've submitted everything and should be complete, but maybe they're behind in processing?

It says on the status page that your status may stay in the "secondary in process" period for an extended amount of time even if you have turned everything in, so I think it is normal. I turned everything on 9/2, but my status has not changed either.

I am a first year MD/MPH student at UASOM. If anyone has questions I will try to answer them. I am doing a 4-year MD/MPH, which was started this year. I will be able to answer things about the MPH too.

My status has been complete and application under review for a few days now.

eh, it's irrelevant if you're not MD/PhD, since the process is completely different. my LizzyM is >70.

Do they really screen OOS before secondaries? I guess that is a good sign then.

Is anybody marked complete&under review here? I've been in process for weeks.. I know it can be at this status for awhile, but I'm still worried that I forgot to do something….

I've been marked complete as well but I didn't get an email telling me of my status change (unless I accidentally deleted it or something). I just happened to check and it had changed. Have you checked the actual secondary page or were you just waiting on an email?

I just checked and I'm complete and under review even though my committee letter hasn't been finished yet.

I was checking the status page, but I went under review yesterday (phew!) I was getting worried!

ii today, secondary was submitted 9/8.

My status was changed to "Remain Under Consideration for Interview" does that mean I there's a chance that I could possibility get an interview? I'm oos but from alabama so I wonder if that's why they're holding my app.

I've got the same status.

My status changed to this as well, but then I got an interview invite the next day! Don't sweat it, worrying won't change anything. It could either mean that they are going to send you an interview invite with the next wave, or that they just aren't ruling you out yet. Either way, they have reviewed your application. I freaked out for a day when mine changed to that, only to feel stupid the next day.

What do you think my chances are should I add this school?
Really want to work in a rural area and I know UAB will guide me towards my mission.

Submitted Secondary 9/16/13...
Interview Requested 9/25/13...
Interview Date 10/10/13...

hmm today my status change from "secondary complete and under review" to "remain under consideration for interview"

I'm OOS, is this good or bad news? It seems like if they liked me they would have sent me an interview after reviewing?

It seems most of the interviews are going to people instate.

I read their guidelines and that status means they've reviewed it and feel its competitive. I'd say its good news. You're still in the running to become UAB's next med student. 👍

yea, i know there are very few OOS people. thanks for the info.

anyone have the MSAR data for OOS II/acceptance?

Could any of the 9/26 interviewees give some insight into what the interview was like? Any questions that caught you off guard?

Pretty straightforward. No real surprises.
Interviews were mostly conversational. Every topic was from my AMCAS application.
