Do any current oos med students have any insight for someone considering this school? I'd be moving across the country and worry that because most of the students are from California, it may make for a difficult transition. What's your take? During my interview I didn't have a chance to talk to any oos students...

Not OOS but am familiar with the area. Irvine might actually be one of the most boring places in so cal, as almost all of the land in the city is owned by the irvine company and they try and make it as family friendly as possible. If you are married/have children this is a safe and convenient place, but if you are young and want to go out occasionally you'll have to leave the city. However, Great weather year round and close to a lot of things. California is pretty laid back so I feel like there shouldn't be too much of a culture shock. Except for the huge population of Asians in Irvine if you're not from somewhere with a lot of Asians.

Thanks! I guess I meant the student body--are people generally welcoming and willing to "take in" oos students despite the fact that the IS students are likely from the same areas and have a lot in common? I want to make sure it wouldn't be alienating to not be familiar with the Bay Area or all of the other popular places ppl were from at my interview day! And also, my lack of surfing ability (or desire to learn to surf)--gotta make sure I would "fit in" a little bit haha!
I don't go to Uci so I can't say about whether they're accepting, but if you're not trying to surf why even bother ??
Kidding, that's just a stereotype. I'll be willing to bet that more students here don't surf than do.
Don't give up hope. There are posts on last cycle's thread (2012-2013) for UCI indicating that UCI was sending out IIs as late as March for folks who were complete in August and September:I sumbitted my secondary august 3rd and still under review... just too much silence for my comfort, im assuming rejection for this school...

Same here, accepted 🙂
Interview 9/23
I sent one. I am really interested in this school, so at the very least I hope I was able to convey that I am still interested.
Nope not yet. I am OOS, so I am staying conservative with my expectations.
I was at that same interview date 🙂 I called the admissions office recently and was told that Dr. Peterson's daughter was getting married and so there's a delay in getting out acceptance info. I was told that the results should be coming soon! This forum has been quiet lately. Does anyone from the 10/9 interview group have any acceptance news?
See my above post! The dean of admissions was busy, so everything is delayed/backed up. Therefore, it'll be a little slow, but hopefully things will pick up soon so we can have some action on this thread 🙂Man this thread has been slow, no updates from those who have interviewed?

That's funny, that was my response as well 😀 yay for happy occasions and us not all being awful lolThat is a happy reason for the delay! Congrats Dr. Peterson (assuming you like the gentleman). Certainly better than no movement because we are all terrible applicants who deserve to be kept suffering in limbo as long as possible.

No! They didn't :/ I know the wait is difficult!! Hopefully they'll have decisions soon.Did the admissions office mention when they would resume?
Do you know if this applies to IIs as well?I was at that same interview date 🙂 I called the admissions office recently and was told that Dr. Peterson's daughter was getting married and so there's a delay in getting out acceptance info. I was told that the results should be coming soon!
I have no idea, sorry 🙁 believe me--I know it's hard to waitDo you know if this applies to IIs as well?
Depends on how competitive you feel, and if UCI is among your top choices. Personally, I would wait to take a summer course before matriculation. If you can't do that though, I'd take stats on the off chance that I get in (or worse, in case I have to reapply next cycle since a lot of schools req. stats or calc )I've been complete for about 2 months now and still need to take statistics. However, I haven't received an II or rejection and am not sure if I should go ahead and sign up for it for next semester. The admissions office has been really nice and said that if you haven't been rejected yet, then you are still being reviewed and could be offered an interview up until the end of March. Does anyone have any advice- if I should request for an expedited decision or should I just bite the cost and take statistics? Thanks in advance.
I agree. I say to just take it because it's the safe choice.Depends on how competitive you feel, and if UCI is among your top choices. Interview invites seem to have really tapered off, but now that I think about it I didn't ever see the level of activity in this thread as I did in others.

Thanks! I scheduled mine for Jan 6th; the other dates they also had available were January 16th and 27th, I believe (or one or two days off of that, i don't remember the dates exactly)Congrats! When is your interviewed scheduled? Just want to have a general idea of when interviews are scheduled up to right now
