2013-2014 University of Colorado Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
hey medicalhopeful, mind sharing your stats?

also, does anyone know how to change your contact email through AMCAS? i can change the address but not sure how to do email and i'm worried my .edu one will run out since i graduated

OOS and interviewed november. However, no news since, and am a bit nervous/worried. Hopefully some good news soon?:xf:

Keep your heads up guys! Dr. Grenardo just called last week.

Also, for those with knowledge about the financial aid, does Colorado offer any scholarships? The tuition for OOS is insane and from what they told us you have to pay OOS tuition for all 4 years. I come from a disadvantaged family and will not be getting any family support. I also can't receive federal loans due to my immigration status. All the loans have to be private. Any input will be appreciated; timeline for fafsa, what I can do to apply for scholarships, etc. You can also PM if you don't want to reply on here. Thanks.

Does Colorado accept pre-interview updates?
I actually just inquired about this last week, and they told me they are "not accepting updates at this time." I assume this goes for all applicants but just fyi I am OOS, complete some time in September.

Nope the only time they want updates is the day of your interview. You can verbally update your interviewer or give them a sheet/letter at that time.

Sorry for the late reply. My stat range were 3.5-3.7 and 28-32 MCAT, CA applicant. Not the best stats but I think my disadvantaged background, strong personal statement, and because I really connected with both of my interviewers gave me an early acceptance. I applied to CU-UNITE as well, not sure if that made a difference.

Time for you to change your UN to "MedicalBound" 😉

We cannot; OOS tuition all four years.
Hahah, yeah that's a downside. They don't seem to offer as much financial aid/scholarships either. The financial aid talk was confusing, but I pretty much took away what JFS said. There was some part that if you could establish IS residency before the end of the first year, you would qualify for IS tuition from then on though. Think that was receiving the "Sponsored student" status vs "Accountable student" (shrug, not too sure )

😵 I was told by two different sources in the school that it was not possible at all. The way they stated it was that you will be charged for all fours years based on the status you have (sponsored vs accountable) at time of matriculation. Adds up to something around 340k :blackeye:. I had the same impression about financial aid / scholarships.

To be fair, I was still in shock at the OOS tuition costs that everything else just came to me in bits and pieces  :bigtears:

(Meaning you're prob right)

Basically, if you applied as an out-of-state student, you will be considered an out-of-state student for all four years.

Does Colorado except post interview updates? and if so, how should I go about it?

No they don't accept them. You can update them at the interview verbally or bring an update letter to have them add it to your file though.

As for how you should go about it, starting with proper spelling is always a good start!

jk no biggie.

Any IIs recently? I've been hanging in here since September.

Anybody who's been accepted receive the certiphi background check yet?

I didn't apply to the research track but that is definitely something I'd be interested in if I matriculated. Is it possible to join the research track after being accepted if I choose to matriculate to Colorado?

Yes, you apply for the research track during your first year.

If we were accepted when do we submit the deposit to hold our seat?

I never got an email. Should I expect an email about reserving a seat?

Heh, actually I was being serious. From the acceptance letter: "You must submit a $200 deposit to hold your seat in the Class of 2018 between July 1, 2014 and July 25, 2014. Please do not send a payment prior to this date."

Thanks I never got an email 🙁

I will submit the contract right away! I have three days to do so!

As long as I post-mark it I should be fine right? Also, can I submit the form via email?

Thanks!

I accidentally submitted the form a week late via mail and I didn't receive a nasty-gram about it or anything. Just send it over mail and don't over-think it 🙂

Did you receive a confirmation or reply acknowledging your email? Thanks!

Never mind, thought you said email. Lol.

Did you send the contract and the residency form together? We don't pay anything until July to confirm a seat?

Yes, I sent them together. We do not have to pay anything until July according to the acceptance letter / website.

@Medicalhopeful Have you checked your spam folder? That's where my acceptance email showed up. I found it after I got called, but they were both the same day.

Congrats to all of those who have been accepted! And good luck to those who are still waiting. I ended up coming here over USC and BU, and I am glad I did. If you decide to come here, you won't be disappointed, and that's coming from a native Californian.

So do OOS usually get any sort of financial aid? Or is everyone stuck paying 60k a year straight up?

II this morning. I'm trying to decide if I should attend the interview so I have a couple questions for you guys.

Is it late in the cycle for CU and are they only interviewing for waitlist positions? How likely is it for me to get my interview rescheduled to a Saturday? Thanks!
