2013-2014 University of Colorado Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
When I interviewed on March 8th (the final day of interviews), they said it would be about 3 weeks before they sent out acceptances.

I interviewed March 8th too and I thought they said that 3 weeks was the absolute latest that we would find out and that it would probably be earlier

So do you think we can still be considered for scholarships if they accept us after the scholarship deadline of March 21st?
I figure that since you can use the AMCAS ID that it wouldn't hurt to submit it just in case. Or will they just toss out your application because it won't appear that you are accepted (one of the scholarship prerequisites) until potentially after March 21st?
I noticed a few weeks ago if I am correct that the deadline was March 14th and they moved it to the 21st. Maybe they anticipate sending acceptances before the 21st but after the 14th (meaning this week) but who knows!

The deadline was changed from the 14th to the 21st. I think that the original deadline was from last year's cycle. As for any questions about if you can apply for a scholarship if you have not been accepted, I would call the admissions office.

Unfortunately I did that...they haven't been answering the phones since last week...

It is true, and probably worth it if it helps them to be more efficient, I have had my share of busy phone calls at work...it is quite stressful...I guess that it is worth it just to submit the scholarship application and hope that it is profitable!

Ah and I just discovered that the Student Life Office answers questions about the scholarship application. Perhaps they would be the right ones to approach right now...

I sure hope so. According to my expert facebook stalking skills, only about half the class have been filled. The facebook page seems to have people trickling in little by little each week.

When do we receive the FB page invite and from whom? I haven't gotten mine yet, so was just wondering. :/

You can wait until MS1s in charge receive the list of names from the Office of Admissions (and have time to add you themselves). Or you can request to join the fb page yourself, and if your name is on the updated list that they are given at the time, they will add you.

Hey everyone,

I had a question about the deadline for the scholarship. I know it's due tomorrow but is there a specific time we need to turn it in by? I'm almost done and I am making some final edits. Any information would be welcomed!

I would assume just before midnight. I am personally trying to ensure that it is done before the end of the business day.

It seems to me that the medical campus could potentially be 6% increases vs. 3.5 % increases for the other campuses. Those are the max possible increases and they may be lower.

You guys are on top of things. I'm not in a big rush just yet to put down a deposit. I'm actually pretty excited for using second look day to scope out potential roommates. If you're going to live with someone, don't you want to make sure you guys get along well, or at the very least not rush into rooming with a gunner? I have also never heard of people not finding a place to live at 21 fitz, it just may not be the exact floor plan you want. But that isn't guaranteed anyways right? Plus they have an entire new building opening up in June. But who knows, Maybe thats just me trying to convince myself to stay calm.
On another note, Dai an mentioned something about pigs feet on the fb page. I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that we aren't going to be eating them. Suturing anyone?

Current MS2 (soon to be MS3) here -- there WILL be pig foot suturing on second look day, brought to you by Global Health Track! Yay. Also, if you are worried about housing and don't have a car, I guess you could freak out about it -- but I think it's a waste of your time. First of all, a lot of people don't move until over the summer so many haven't thought about it yet. Second, many can't even think about it yet because they haven't been accepted. So I see nothing wrong with waiting for second look day or even after. Denver itself is cheap relative to other cities, and if you are looking for a nice balance of fun and school I recommend living closer to downtown. Park Hill, Congress Park near the old campus (and Trader Joe's), etc. are ~ halfway between campus and Denver and reasonably priced. Uptown and Cap Hill will cost you more but will be closer to the night life.

Congrats to everyone accepted, and good luck to those still waiting -- I do not want to be back in your shoes! But once you finally get in it's such an unforgettable experience. I still love school and I am even in the middle of boards studying right now 🙂 hope to see some of you on second look day!

This happened to me to, you're not alone! I tried submitting a little after 4 and then remembered CO is an hour ahead of CA 🙁

I'm sure they'll have another round of entries judging by what it said on the website and it seems like there's numerous other scholarships for current students if you don't get one for incoming students.

It definitely wasn't there earlier (I had checked at 2:30 pm on march 21st) - I had a screen shot and printed so I could remember to do it.

Wow, I thought I was going crazy because I was planning to do the scholarships yesterday evening...I wonder why they would do that...to be honest I was trying to wait to see if they would send out acceptances yesterday before I did the application (so I could use my CUSOM Id), and then in the evening I expected it wouldn't be the day and so I was just going to do the scholarship anyway...

Either way, thanks for the encouragement from the MS2! Pig feet sound fun!!! I was looking at suturing videos last night =) and then I found this...

it looks entertaining...anybody that knows sutures think this is good practice?

well I still have my fingers crossed for those of us waiting...9 more days...

CU has a history of increasing tuition rates on a regular basis. It's unfortunate that the State of Colorado isn't very good at funding public education (K-12 and higher ed). The article I linked to said the 6% increase was for undergraduate degrees, but the only one I can think of that is offered at Anschutz is the BSN. I couldn't find any other information on tuition increases for the other degrees offered.

Oh gosh I totally missed that if it said it beforehand...

Don't worry! It never said it. I submitted an app yesterday morning and it was definitely not there. I am 100% positive about that. I only saw it after I tried to submit another app after 5pm MST. kinda weird that they would put a time deadline, but only after it closed...

Ya I submitted early in the morning and I really don't remember seeing it. It is very strange that it wasn't posted sooner

I'm sure if we all call we can get an extension. Please call and email:

I called and email. No response yet. I feel like this was completely unfair since I was submitted before the deadline and the 5pm wasn't on there. We should all continue to call until they give us an extension!

Good luck!

@moisne did you turn in the scholarship application? If not, can you try calling. Maybe they can re-open it. Thanks. I'll update anyone if I hear back.

I did turn it in that morning luckily because I had jobs lined up from noon until 10 pm.

Which btw- if anyone will be in denver this June, I have a job offering for a 2 week act math tutoring if anyone wants it.

Can you share the screen shot? I want to have evidence if the school doesn't believe me. Thanks.

I will see if its in my cloud drive.... I just reformatted my phone today, not sure of it was backed up in the last few days :0

I thought they had said official decisions were due out no later than March 31st. That means a little less than a week until all decisions are made.

That's what it says on the portal at least. I guess our hearts can be broken in the next few days . I received an email saying that Colorado Springs is also reviewing final decisions this week though. Here goes nothing :s

Did you choose preference of CO springs branch? Never got that email..

I actually didn't originally. They asked if I still wanted to submit am essay and the app for consideration for the campus though, so I might as well! Nothing to lose at this point 😛

So when you wrote your essay did you choose your first choice to the branch? Or did you choose main campus but willing to be assigned to the Springs?

My first choice is the Anschutz medical campus but I am also willing to be placed at CS. I didn't submit my essay until recently though, haha. That was probably more so why they emailed me, since my application for it was technically not "complete" -shrug-

I wanted to ask a personal question to any DACA applicants that have been accepted. Please PM. Thank you!
