2013-2014 University of Florida Application Thread

Someone else log into the secondary page and click the PDF with the essays in it.

I did, and all it says is "You feel intimidated" on page 4. The rest of the PDF is blank.

Haha, wtf? Looks like someone is trolling applicants.

This actually happened to me. It's the last essay I have to write and can't find the essays!

I saved the .pdf before someone changed it. PM me your email and I'll send you the prompts.

The dinner is informal and is not mandatory. HIGHLY recommend it. Had an awesome time, hosts are very informative and gracious. Plus it really settles your nerves for interview day.

Anyone who has been to the dinner, what did everyone wear to it??

Anyone know if there is a minimum MCAT UF invites for interview? Didn't do great on mine so just wondering

When I went some wore suits, business casual and and/or jeans. There was a pretty wide range of opinions on that one. I opted for business casual...

Does anyone know how we are supposed to send them a copy of our passport for the interview. I assume it is through email since I couldn't find a place to submit it on their website.

I don't know if there's a minimum, but I think "doing well" on the mcat is different according to them and the premed community. Some of the people in my interview group had high 20's.

Thanks for the help, hoping to hear good news soon🙂

To everyone accepted, you can now sign on the the applicant portal to pay your deposit and reserve your spot.

Yup, and it was mentioned that they have accepted applicants 24+ and just shy of 3.0+.

Not saying its the norm at all (and the average is inc. each year), but its nice that UF is holistic.

Just sent an in the area email! Interviewing at UCF on nov 25th. Crossing my fingers cuz then I could stay home in Florida for thanksgiving!

Anyone else send a post-submission update to UF? I filled out the space allotted and pressed 'save'...is that it? I feel like there should be a 'send' button. Haha dumb question but I'd appreciate a verification that this is all we have to do! Thanks, guys.

I literally just did this. I actually just emailed them to make sure all I needed to do was hit save. I'll let you know if they respond!

Does anyone know if UF rejects post-interview or just accepts/waitlists everyone?

EDIT: Found out they only Waitlist or Accept

Interview invite this morning! Guess in the area emails work just fine!

IS 3.56/3.53 34!

+ 1 for II. I'll be there on Nov 22. I also plan to attend the dinner the night before. I'm local, so if anyone interviewing that day (or anyone, really) has any questions, feel free to message me.

How long did it take them update your status after you submitted your secondary? I submitted a month ago but it still says they haven't confirmed all my LoRs although they received them well before completing the secondary.

Well I submitted at the end of October, and my letters still have that red mark on them. What is most likely, is that it takes them time to sort out a premed commitee letter packet, make sure all the other letters are there, etc.

Same thing happens in some other schools. It took Albany a month before they marked me complete and letters recieved.

Has anyone heard from UF today who interviewed on October 25th? They said we would hear today!

I wrote down that they were going to notify us on 11/19. Hope that's the case because I haven't heard back yet either!

Ewelling, did you ever hear back? 🙂

Are there any updates on the status of the application on the portal? Or does it just say "Your application is ready" and eventually you'll get an email or letter regarding interview or rejection?

Anyone happen to know waitlist statistics or anything about how it works? All I know is that it's unranked and won't find out anything until at least May? :\

Last years numbers were 383 interviews and 230 accepted of a total number of applicants in the 3400-3600 range (I'm recalling this from memory, but I'm fairly confident). They have a class size of 135 (- 12 junior honors/RUUM), so the number that's most likely important for you is 123. This number may be a bit smaller to accommodate deferrals from previous years.

If you assume they will fill their class after all interviews are done and they don't over accept (we don't actually know this) and there are no deferrals, you're looking at a 60% of overall acceptance if you interview (230/383 = .60) and maybe a 41% chance of being accepted off the wait list (230-123 = 107 from the wait list: 383-123 = 260 left on the wait list: 107/260 = .41). This is only correct if my assumptions are true, and this cannot be verified; however, it's a general idea.

Wait list acceptances are offered throughout the summer until the class matriculates. UF does not tell you what your position on the wait list is, but Leila and the other staff will continue to advise you throughout the season if you've interviewed there (maybe even if not, I don't know). They can be very helpful during that time.

Good luck! In light of recent cinema, may the odds be ever in your favor.

About the biochemistry requirement, can you take the course either online or on a campus over the summer prior to attending medical school?

According to their website, yes.

They disclose that they do not "over accept" in the terms defined above. In other words, you have an equal chance of acceptance from the last interview as well as the first.

II today! 3.9/32/IS. I was complete 7/22ish. Super excited for this one!!!
