Same here, it's really strange...but I'm not complaining! It's always nice to get something in the mail haha.

Edit: how do we log in?

They told us in an email that they would be sending the brochure… No big deal, guys.

"We have forwarded to you via U.S. mail a copy of our brochure along with a cover letter. If you would like to complete the supplemental application prior to receiving the materials in the mail, you are welcome to."

I just found the Rochester emails in my spam folder of my alternate account. Look there.

At the risk of sounding like a total idiot, did anyone else fail to receive a login name or password?

How do we login?

Well...that secondary didn't even take 5 minutes. Submitted!!

received the brochure in the mail that tells me to go online and fill out the supplemental application, but I dont have a login name or password. checked my spam folder, and nothing was there...any ideas?

Applying! 🙂 I don't know much about the school, does anyone have any insight/input? 😳

I went here for undergraduate, and I am staying the hell away from Rochester for the rest of my life. However, take my experience with a grain of salt. I wanted to party and have fun as an undergraduate, and University of Rochester is anything but fun. I got in a lot of trouble with the administration and the Dean of Students in particular made me pay out the ass tenfold for the trouble I got into. Their policies on alcohol and weed are draconian, but again, I doubt that has much bearing on anyone who would be attending UR for medical school.

If you are a medical student, you will likely live in the "white coat ghetto" surrounding the medical center. Rent is dirt-cheap but crime is pretty atrocious. You will be very close to the 19th ward, which is an extremely high crime area.

The city of Rochester itself is hardly a city if you're used to Chicago or New York, but there are a few redeeming qualities. They have a FANTASTIC public farmers' market even throughout the winter. Eastman School of Music has some cheap (free for UR students?) concert performances that are superb, and there is a small but thriving local music scene.

If any of you happen to be interested in capoeira, there is an academia there that I cannot say enough good things about--Academia Com Expressao. When I was going through some rough times as an undergraduate, this provided me with a stable support community and a positive outlet for my time and energy. International capoeiristas come and hold workshops, and it's really a fascinating hub of capoeira in the upstate NY area. I wish I could find a similar place near where I live now.

Bottom line, I hated the school as an undergraduate, but my view likely has no bearing on life as a medical student. You should know that crime is really bad in the immediate vicinity, the weather is even worse for 80% of the year, but hey, that'll probably make it easier to stay inside and study. PM me if you have any questions about Rochester.

So knowing Rochester is a small(ish) town and isolated in upstate New York, why did you choose to go there in the first place?

How much is the application fee?

I want to apply here but my advisor said not to
I asked why not and he said that "they think that they're Harvard but they're not"

What does he mean lol

I think it's funny that this is one of the easiest secondaries to do, yet it's the only one I haven't received yet!

I've checked, it wasn't there either. I'm not the only one in this boat, though.........right?

You might want to shoot them an email. I added Rochester yesterday, and received an email this morning with a password for filling out the secondary.

This may sound funny, but it is so true.

75% of UG there feel as if they are at some Ivy league and they are not afraid to flaunt this "personality"

It's a lovely campus, and even I sometimes feel like it has the ivy flare. But once again, it is not. Great school though!

I remember visiting for undergrad and I lost track of how many times they said the word "elite" and "new ivy." Wonderful school though!

Interview Invite! Complete 7/14

Scheduled for 8/26, anyone else planning to go that day? Also I had no idea they have essays ah just when I thought I was wrapping up my secondaries..

Interview invite also! Complete 7/25.

Yep, they sent an email. On the website, the status page adds a check box for the interview and the page under the interview tab changes.

Does anyone know the interviewed, accepted, matriculated stats here?

Just got off the plane in Texas to interview and had an Interview Invite email from Rochester! Very nice surprise!

I choose September 6 as well.

Interview invite here as well, very excited 🙂

Complete: 7/11/13
Interview Invite: 7/31/13
Interview Date: 9/16/13

I will be flying in to arrive Saturday night and leaving Tuesday morning. If anyone will be there Saturday night, Sunday night, or Monday night and wants to explore the city, please PM me so we can hang out! I made the flight like this so that I can see Rochester as a city and get a good feel for it so I plan on exploring during the day. I also hope to stay with a student so I can ask one million and a half questions! 🙂

Best,
C

Favorite part of Rochester's II:

"Please select your sandwich option before scheduling an interview date."

Priorities 👍

Complete: 7/15
Invite: 7/31

Interview scheduled on the 16th as well! I will be getting in Sunday afternoon, will you use the student hosting option?

Interview invite today as well. I was completed on 7/14. I found it curious that the one day everyone's been signing up for is Friday the 13th in September. Best of luck!:luck:

Hi!!!

Yes I will use the student housing option if possible. I will be there for 3 nights, so I might need to stay with more than one student. Would you be interested in getting going for dinner on Sunday would be nice to meet with a fellow applicant and possible classmate (you never know)! 🙂

I am really pumped for this interview, Rochester seems awesome! I can't wait to meet some students and explore the area a bit!

Best,
C

congrats! what kind of stats do you guys have for rochester?

I'll be there too! Congrats on the IIs everybody!

Glad to hear!

Based on the interview sign-up page, it looks like there are only 5 students (sometimes 10) per interview day...anyone know if that's true? That's such a small group!

do you think it's better to sign up for an earlier interview to get an acceptance or is it just more important to submit your apps in early?

Looks like we'll be in the same interview group.

Very excited to interview here!

Is anyone else curious about this mysterious group discussion? If they did it last year, any input on what it is like? It actually sounds kind of fun, except the vision it gives me of one way mirrors with admissions committees analyzing our every move like lab rats and placing bets on who will make the cut...
