2014-2015 Albany Medical College Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Thanks Tatum! It has been a drawn out process and I need to treat it like I have not even applied yet. Very true. I appreciate your encouragement! I am concerned that something went wrong when the previous poster mentioned that it is not normal to not hear back from any schools. I did receive a complete email from all of the schools though

No problem! Overall, I have similar stats to you, complete September-ish and applied to around 15 schools and have only heard back from a few as well. I'd gladly trade my two rejections and a hold status here for silence from those places! I think applicants who fall into the later applying/competitive but not stellar numbers category often find themselves waiting for interviews to many places. Just be expecting to hear something soon, and it should happen!

Yes I have checked everything relentlessly. I cannot believe that I have yet to hear back. I have a 31 mcat and a 3.8 GPA with good EC. DO you still think I have a chance of getting in?
I would call them. I called EVMS on the 31st only to find out I had "missed" an email for an II.
Better to be safe than sorry.

Wow I would have never thought that could happen. I am glad that you called! Thank you for your advice. I want to call but I do not want to seem impatient to admissions.

Thank You fellow Albany Medical College applicants for all of the feedback you have given me!

I feel ya Force. I was complete at 35 schools in august/sept with virtually identical MCAT/GPA, good ECs and am still waiting on 28 schools without a single interview. It is torture....!

Hey peeps! I just got invited to interview at Albany today and I'm thrilled! This will be my first MMI and I was wondering if anyone had tips?

Congrats! Would you mind letting me know when you were complete?

I had two MMIs prior, not at AMC but I would just say to stick with answers that aren't too extreme and if they are, be able to defend yourself. Sorry for the lack of information since I never interviewed here but I wanted to help!

Although MMIs allow 8 minutes to converse with the interviewer, you don't have to talk for the entire 8 minutes! Make your point as clear and concise as possible, then allow the interviewers to ask follow up questions (they almost always have questions). This gives you an opportunity to touch on important ideas that you might not have considered. Other than that, try to have fun! Albany does a good job with minimizing the stress of their interview process.

Thank you that is very reassuring! I have been able to stay as relaxed as anyone can hope to be with my traditional interviews but I have to admit that the MMI seems pretty terrifying. Good to know it isn't too bad.

Congrats RavensFan26! It has been a long wait and you deserve it!

The MMI is totally chill, trust me. Way less intimidating than a traditional interview.

The fact that the individual interviewers know nothing whatsoever about your application may put you at ease. They're not going to grill you about parts of your app or anything.

My application was complete on 9/12. Hope you hear back soon!!

I'm really glad to hear that. Thanks!!

How did you all who have had an MMI prepare for it?

I didn't do anything to prepare. I can't imagine much you could do to prepare. Just go in there and be yourself. They just want to see that you're cool and can speak with people. Smile, be friendly, be relaxed.

Cool cool. In your experience, was there any back and forth with the interviewer or was it basically just you presenting to them?

For me there was plenty of back and forth. In fact, I'd encourage that because you should treat it more as a conversation than a Q&A session.

Got an email saying I was "on hold" pre interview. Has anyone ever gotten interviews after getting this?
I am sorry to hear that. Could you please share when you were complete? Thanks a lot and best of luck to you!

No it is not a rejection! Sorry I did not mean to come across as negative. At least you know that they have looked at your application!

Just got rejected pre interview :-/ good luck to everyone still in the running!

My app was placed on "hold" yesterday, I was marked complete in the last week of August!

I just called to cancel my interview, scheduled for February. Hopefully that spot will go to one of you 🙂 Best of luck!

what is the difference between "alternate list", "under consideration", and "wait list"? i tried calling their admissions but they were not very helpful.

I believe the only options right now are accepted, under consideration, or rejected. An alternate list isn't typically compiled until much later in the cycle, though you can be accepted off the UC list prior to that. we just don't know when that'll start.

Interviewing here Friday morning! If anyone else is staying at the Hilton Garden Inn tomorrow night and wants to hang out slash maybe practice for the interview together send me a message!

Has anyone rescheduled an interview for here?

I am supposed to interview in a few weeks, but I would love to hear from my state school before spending 600+ to fly to Albany. I want to get this solved ASAP so my interview can go to one of you lovely folks.

Any help would be great!

I called & emailed about changing my date and they were very open to it. their later options ended up being worse, so I stuck w/ original date, but again they are open to it!

UC, interviewed early Jan. I thought my MMI's went very well, but I wouldn't have chosen Albany over the school I currently hold acceptance at so there's that. gl to everyone else!

Quick update guys. This application cycle has been brutal for me. Still no response from 15 schools! I have realized that applying in September puts you at an really bad disadvantage. It is heartbreaking to see that schools are still interviewing people complete in July and August. It seems like they will never get to the September people

1) anyone interviewing here on Monday? 2) when I read the thread a few months ago I saw people only having interview apots opened in March. I got my ii last week with a ton of January and February dates does that mean anything?

Just got accepted! Sort of surprised at all the stuff I have to do to reserve a spot though...if we do reserve, is it at all binding, and is the deposit refundable if I decide to go somewhere else?

Are you originally from Cali? I have a feeling you might have been my tourguide, but I'm not certain.
