2014-2015 Baylor College of Medicine Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I have this irrational fear that they've started accepting people and none of us made that first call list.

I know I won't be in the first batch but they need to start so they can get to my people!

I am firmly of the belief that ONE of the twenty people they first accept has to be on this board. At least that's how I justify my frantic checking.

Interviewed here in late September. Pretty sure my status was "has been reviewed" after that, but I just checked and it's back to "being reviewed" again. I haven't checked it in a while so I'm not sure when it changed. Anyone know what this means? Thanks

I forgot what mine used to say (it says "being reviewed" right now), but based on this page, "being reviewed" is the normal status after an interview.

Wasn't actually expecting anything, but my heartbeat did speed up for a few seconds after seeing my status haha.
Looks like I just have to be patient and wait.
Thanks for your fast response! 🙂

Congrats!! So it begins.. 😉

Congratulations on the acceptances! Love seeing such joy for everyone!

Thank you all!!

It was a phone call from Dr. Johnson, I'm seriously surprised.

I'm sure they're on here somewhere but I don't feel like digging through, mind sharing your stats again and interview date?

And the number they called you from so I can add it??

Congrats!!

I'm not sure if I'm allowed to do that for privacy reasons, however I'll tell you it starts with 713-798 because that's what all baylor numbers start with!

ACCEPTED!!!!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!

I was kind of hoping there was a one person at the end of every hour pattern but it seems we have deviated. I was enjoying the euphoria.

So have we decided if they will still prematch at midnight since its a Saturday? I have a Quantum Mechanics test Friday morning... only thing motivating me at this point hahaha.

I thought it was every week^ or maybe every month. Were these initial acceptances only for IS people due to the match?

Update: status now changed to "your application is not supported...etc"

If I'm OOS and Baylor is my dream school, should I patiently sit tight and wait for an II, or get antsy and send Baylor a pre-interview update email (about research at the NIH, why Baylor, etc.)?

I just don't know if it's typical for OOS applicants to receive IIs much later in the season compared to IS.

I'm not entirely sure about the OOS part, but BCM interviews through part of February. I know they are receptive to updates, and you sound like you have some good/important ones. Good luck! Don't lose hope!

Just wondering, if Baylor questions someone's state of residency (i.e. applicant claims TX residency, but Baylor doesn't think the person has TX residency due to the residency questionnaire), do they contact the person to check or do they reclassify the person as OOS without asking?

Really excited to interview here soon, quick question. I know that in the invitation to interview it mentioned that "significant others are welcome to attend all general sessions." Has anybody done this?

I've seen several applicants bring their SO. He/she can accompany you throughout the day for tours (except Anatomy lab, applicants only) and information sessions.

Are all the acceptance calls made the same time during the day? or is it possible that I will be called during different time of the day? I think if people that were accepted post what time they got the call it will be great. Thank you all

I was also just accepted about 10 minutes ago! For those wondering, my stats are definitely not anything too stellar for BCM. 3.9, 33 mcat...no published research, average everything else, in state white dude.

Best of luck to everyone and congrats to those who heard today.

Congrats to all those accepted! It would be great if you guys could also share what interview dates you had 🙂

I got called at 10:10am. I also interviewed on Oct. 3rd. My stats are bit below average of Baylor, and I did not participate in research, so I'm just shocked to be honest.

Hi everybody!

Long time lurker here! Thanks to everyone who posts about their experiences, and congratulations to everyone who recently got accepted!

I also got accepted today ! OOS! I'm so excited and was NOT expecting the call. Baylor has been my number one for a while now, and this all feels crazy. Having said that, I read some other posts about the interview day feeling underwhelming. I honestly LOVED my interview day up until I got to the tour. My tour guide basically contradicted everything the other students said. He mentioned that the environment was very competitive, the attendings were vicious, and that he "guesses Baylor's not a bad place to train." I'm hoping he is not representative of the general feelings of the student body as a whole. The other students were certainly more positive about their experiences. However, he's also the only 3rd year I came in to contact with. Most of the students that interacted with the interviewees were 2nd years.

So, all that to say... is there anyone here who is an upperclassman at Baylor who can tell me about their experience with the school? Or any current Baylor medical student who can tell me whether you feel most of the upperclassmen are happy with their choice/happy in general? I honestly wonder why that student was a tour guide in the first place if he felt so lackluster towards Baylor. His tour was really the only thing that detracted from my experience on the interview day. Still so excited about Baylor, and I hope many more of you hear back soon!
