2014-2015 Duke University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Too scared to put my faith in others on the Internet, I'm convinced I should have been in the WL/reject pile (and I'm literally IN THE SAME STATE how would my letter not be here by now?!), but I'm hoping for a good outcome for all of us.

Side note: 100% appreciation for all the gifs posted. y'all are the real MVPs.

Niiiiiiiiice, I really hope she is right.

Very nice

Just checked my mail and still nada. Perhaps we'll get a second look email or maybe not. We'll see.

I'm in the same boat, nothing in my mail still and no email. I'm having a panic attack over here. I don't even know what to think at this point.

Nothing in my mail as well. I already called the office twice yesterday...I'm debating if I should even bother again

How many in limbo? Do we have a count?

So for those with questions about second look, I just called to try to get more information. I asked what time we should be there Friday and what the situation with lodging was, and she said she really wasn't sure...so I basically said, "Gurl, flights went up $100 in the past two days so you best find out." She then told me information will be emailed out today.

Sass always gets ish done.

I just bought plane tickets based off the MSTP schedule that was posted... begins at 7-8am Friday, ends at noon on Sunday, student hosts available on Thursday night. I figure I can change it if need be (yay southwest).

Though since I can't check my mail until Monday, and I'm only going off getting a phone call last Monday, I am highly paranoid I wasn't accepted 😛

Did anyone who emailed in response to the WL email get. Confirmation or response that they received the email? I replied to the email address that sent the email and never got a response. Just curious!

I didn't get a response, but I used the email @gettheleadout posted @mc.duke.edu. I figured I would call some time next week (once the madness has calmed and all our SDN friends currently suffering in limbo have received their shiny acceptance letters in the mail) to confirm they received it. If anyone does get a confirmation email, if you could let us know, that would be great!

I think about 10? Given how spread out phone calls were and how confused everyone seems to be on their end, I expect they just didn't get all of the letters mailed at the same time. Since we didn't get calls, we might have been at the end of the acceptance list or in a side pile that got considered later... so it's possible acceptance letters will get mailed later as well.

Or they just forgot to reject us yet. Or maybe they remembered, and they're just messing with our heads. Idk.

Despite being in limbo, I got the second look email. I called the admissions office and they did just tell me that I was accepted. Apparenlty because I am PCLT they have not even mailed my letter out yet. Oops. There is hope for all you other limbo-ers!

So maybe some of the limbo people will get this email?? Maybe good news. Sending good vibes to everyone in hopes that something materializes regarding Duke.

@tenniseagle92 , would you mind posting when you get the second look email?

Just got the email about second look. Maybe this will clarify for those of you in limbo?

Congrats! But WTF, I didn't get an email... Guess im in the forgotten pile lol And I'm not PCLT...

So if by chance due to technical glitch some waitlist or rejection emails never went out from the server and the admission just don't know...then unless the portal is updated somehow in the future, then some people's post interview decision will remain unknown forever and ever?

I'm feeling so so sorry for you guys. Sorry this turns out this way.

I hope so....part of me wants to have high hopes...but it will be more upsetting in the end if an acceptance never comes

Dark, but probably the best assumption at this point

But if that's the case, they should not have told you that all you could do is to wait for the mails if they thought you would receive emails for WL or Rejection?

I really hope this play out to your favor!

Wait, were any of you people who just got the second look email previously "in limbo," or had you been explicitly accepted before this? Sorry, I'm at work and can't go back through all the pages of this thread to clarify.

I didn't get a second look email, so I called the admissions office but didn't get any new information there either - just that acceptance letters have been mailed, waitlist emails have been sent, and rejection emails have been sent. She even asked me if I had actually interviewed at Duke....
In conclusion, her advice was "wait a few more days."
:boom:

And then what, bombard the admissions office with more phone calls? Why yes, yes I will.

I am so sorry for everyone still in limbo. It was incredibly painful. Hopefully it will be over soon for everyone.

I was previously in limbo and did receive the second look email. The admissions office then comfirmed over the phone that I was accepted.

How I'm coping with the stress... JK

How many of us remain in limbo?

I just called Duke as well and they told me to "wait a few more days." I asked if I could leave my name and have my file checked to make sure went wrong and was told no. I asked when should I call back if I haven't heard anything, and was told "oh, you know, just a few days."
ARE YOU KIDDING ME? What is this process?

Yes but you are PCLT, right?
Yes. But even though I had not officially heard back, I still got the second look email. That makes me feel like everyone accepted should have received an email. But then again this whole process is so screwed up. We all should have received something beforehand and clearly didn't. Who knows, maybe they are sending the second look email in batches?

*edited for typos because I can't type when I'm this anxious.

+1 limbo. I want to say there's probably a fairly sizeable number of us, which makes me inclined to think that we're misplaced rejections since surely they wouldn't treat people who they'd actually accepted this way. Also: augh.

I think your case may be different since you got a PCLT acceptance email (and they were willing to check your status, which apparently they weren't for the rest of us in limbo).

Doesn't explain why they asked us to wait longer, though. Why not just end the pain? ugh.

+2 to limbo.

I would have to say that I'd disagree with the analysis presented here. I think that part of the issue with the clerks is that they simply do not know, or it is their policy to not check the status of applications. (It could be both). It's a reasonable policy because it would prevent individuals who simply haven't gotten their mail from calling all the time, although that is a less convincing reason now that many people have received their letters in the mail.

The crucial point for me that causes me to disagree is that they seem to be adamant that all waitlist and rejection emails have gone out; if they truly believe that and are telling us to wait for the mail, they can't believe that we're misplaced rejections.

You all can feel free to disagree with me, but this is just my thought process. (In fact, if you disagree with me, then I would encourage you to voice it). Now, whether or not we are actually lost in the system (as acceptances, waitlists, or rejections) is still up for debate. My comments were just directed to what the admissions staff believe when they are talking to us.
