2014-2015 Florida State University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
So on the personal selection section, I have clicked yes for the criminal charge question but no box is showing up for me to explain. There's a box to explain living in a rural area and for academic dishonesty, but none for criminal charges. Is this how everyone's secondary is?

No, there is no place to explain criminal charges. Only rural and academic integrity.

Just Submitted as well! This waiting game is a pain ... :diebanana:

We don't hear back until September. THAT IS SO MANY MONTHS AWAY FROM NOW!!:scared:

I've been refreshing and checking the status page on my secondaries on a daily basis :whoa:

As an ED applicant, how much difference would it make if I turned in my secondary tomorrow as opposed to a week from now?

I just accidentally pressed "release to FSU" instead of "save" at the top of the secondary. Now it is saying my secondary is received by FSU but it is completely blank. I am planning on calling tomorrow to see what to do, but I am wondering if anyone has done this before or if you can press the "release to FSU" again?

I'm sure it happens all the time. I think it's ok as long as you call

Finally submitted my secondary. The med campus is beautiful and the atmosphere is super friendly and cooperative, so really hoping for a chance to go here!

Does most of the students who apply to UCF, specifically to get into the bridge program, have a masters or a post-bacc? Does anyone know if it's possible to get into the bridge program straight from undergrad, even if your MCAT and GPA aren't very high? I spoke with the director and she told me that the average cumulative GPA for students is 3.4 and an mcat score anywhere between 20-24.

i've had my letters in for over a month, when did they show up on your status page?
Just got an email saying my app is complete and being forwarded for review.

just making sure... is there anything else we need to do to 'send' our letters of recommendation to FSU other than 1) make sure AMCAS receives it and 2) designate which letters to be made available to FSU?

I submitted on the 12th and it was marked complete on the 16th, so I would give it a couple more days. If they are not up monday I would call/email admissions.

Does it say that you're complete somewhere on the application portal? Mine just has the date the secondary was received but doesn't say anything about being complete.

It says complete right under where it says my letters were received.

No problem. Let me know if you guys have more questions. Good luck everyone!

Everyone: can someone tell me how much I should elaborate on the travel/hobbies/fieldofmedicine questions? It says up to 500 words? Please, help. I was just thinking about writing short sentences. One paragraph max.

The consensus appears to be that 500 words is too much for the essays. They prefer quality over quantity.

On another note, I just submitted my secondary (ED) [woohoo!], and am still anxious that my letters aren't marked as received. Just to check once again, is there anything else I need to do to 'send' FSU my letters? They were received by AMCAS in early June, and I designated them to FSU. On AMCAS Letters section, all letters are marked as "received."

rest assured @NonNocere2015, there is nothing extra need be done. Mine was marked as complete approx. 4 days after i submitted. Good luck!

Soooo did anyone submit their app from a Mac laptop? Lol I don't have a PC and completed my app on my mac

Man I'm jelly of all you guys that are complete. Looks like my primary won't be verified until mid August 🙁

Waiting on verification of my primary still from AMCAS. I'm definitely a long shot applicant (cGPA:3.39 sGPA:3.4 and MCAT:30) but I've been told they show favoritism to their undergrad students (and I go to FSU). I like the travel question on the secondary, hopefully they like me!

Finally got that secondary turned in. Was super anxious about it since FSU is my top choice.

My parents know an former ADCOM member from last year. She says they have heavy favoritism for those with Tallahassee ties. I would think your correct.

I just want to remind everyone, don't stress too much about the numbers. Yes, your MCAT and GPA are important, but they also look at the "big picture" of your application. Make sure to really describe your experiences in medicine, your community, and your contributions in general. Remember, if it were only about the numbers why would we have 15 experiences + additional secondaries to write/answer?

Good luck everyone and don't hesitate to ask questions if you have any!

I hope being their biggest in state rival counts as a tie

I hear that gators get 'chomped' early, lol. J/king.

The only thing I heard was that they like Tallahassee ties, and then Florida. If you have ties to neither, you probably shouldn't apply.

Tallahassee UF student, AMCAS verified 7/25, 3.5 CGPA/ 3.33 SGPA 30 (11/9/10) MCAT. Hoping for a secondary.
