What do you guys think of my chances?
-Florida Resident (UM undergrad)
-26 MCAT PS 11, VR 7, BS 8.
-3.69 GPA
-Volunteer work in Dominican Republic, Haiti, Costa Rica, Nicaragua (underserved)
-5 months research
-Couple medical/public health clubs on campus.
-Minority (Black/carribeaan)
-Volunteer at underserved clinics
-Medical Scribe
-Shadowed primary care physician, and another specialist.

I personally dont think you're out of the picture, but I cant really gauge how well you'll do as far as interviews and acceptances go with this school

Still waiting, but I've only been complete for a little under 2 weeks. Out of all the schools I applied to, not getting accepted here would hurt the most.

I think you are in tough shape at FSU with an MCAT below 28 and being a minority class that is deep with candidates with better scores. However if you have a really compelling PS and letters who knows? Hopefully you are applying D.O. to cover your bases.

I have a 28, 3.64 cGPA, 3.55 sGPA, and I just started shadowing an internal med doc. If I get all A's this semester, I will have a 3.7 cGPA and a 3.6 sGPA. Ill also have shadowed the internal med doc for a good period of time. Hopefully I can update them and it will help get an interview

Interviewed Monday. Accepted this afternoon! I was a reapplicant Early Decision, but I also waited a year to reapply, so my LOR and additional experience was pretty solid by the time I submitted my application in June. Best of Luck!
Can you tell us about the overall interview experience? What types of questions were asked? How was the schedule set up?

Awesome! Congratulations!

You are most def not out of the running. As an FSU alumni myself with friends in the past 3 incoming classes, some had stats equal to yours or a little less is some areas. FSU can sometimes be hard to predict who gets in and who doesn't but I believe you have a shot for the upcoming class and if not you def had a shot for another program just as good -hint hint nudge nudge check the fsu website-. As long as you presented the best you can do, don't count yourself out of the running. I hope you applied early though because with those stats you'd want to. Good luck. You're never out of the running until the school actually tells you no (I've seen this play so many times where people said no but the school said yes) so until then, keep your head up and good luck!

Sure. During my first application cycle, I interviewed at Florida State and Penn State. I was more excited then by Penn State because everything seemed more hospital-like and important. I've since become not only more used to the idea of being at Florida State (ED Applicant), but also more grateful to have a school that looks at you as an entire applicant instead of just numbers. I naturally enjoy interviews and talking with new people, but I still prepped by writing notes on every example FSU Med School question I could find online. In the end, you're best off planning a very good explanation for your weakest points and making sure you don't leave the room without them knowing it. Plan as is fitting for your application; it was clear from my application that I was very deep into my research and worked on it for a while, so I was asked more general questions about why research, whereas someone who dabbled into someone else's research project should be more prepared to explain the details on the spot. Is that helpful? We have two one on one interviews and get to meet with the dean and the medical students give us a tour. I interviewed in the morning, and it helped me enjoy lunch better, but you also have the option to have lunch with everyone and then interview. Sometimes the other applicants can get in my head and make me feel more nervous, so I picked morning.

Thanks so much and congrats again!

I interviewed on September 5th and was accepted the following Thursday!

They did sort of like a good cop/ bad cop interview series for me: The first interview was pretty informal. She had the lights dimmed and music on in the background to make it relaxing (which it actually did). She asked me a lot of questions about who I was, what my parents were like, my relationships, what I did for fun, etc. All of the questions were specific to things I said in my application. The second interview was more formal; most of the questions stemmed from my application, but were more specific to why I wanted to become a physician.

All of my friends who are year one at FSU told me they had similar experiences with their interviews being informal/formal.

The whole day was really fun. I'm happy I did an afternoon interview because they're able to give you a good idea of what they're looking for in students before you have to interview.

Goodluck to you all I hope we get to meet someday!

How long does it normally take from being marked as complete/under review to hear something back?

Is it just me or is it taking forever to hear back?!

Yea, there has not been much activity as of yet. I wonder if anyone has called the admissions office to ask about things... I would hate to contact any admissions office so as not to pressure them, but I am so antsy haha.

Haha same here, I've been planning on calling but not sure what to say exactly.. so I'll just wait lol

Complete since 7/28, I got nothing. I hear that the slow schools take till thanksgiving to respond. After that, your pretty likely not to get in.

Yea, this is why I'm worrying as well. I was complete late July and nothing so far. Do ya'll think things are just a bit backed up at their Admissions office this year, possible bc more applicants, or are we just the ones that have been passed up and the process continues?

Man, I thought I was a good fit and meet the mission of this school. I hope we all hear something soon. 👍

Curious about ya'lls completion dates, if you don't mind. Since we have a good amount of people actively checking out this thread, maybe we can get an idea as to where they are in the application process....

Complete late July

Mid july

3.39 cGPA, 3.53 sGPA, 30 MCAT

Graduated undergrad from FSU, weak/average EC

Ouch. 🙁

Well, lemme stay positive and say, perhaps, since you're one of their own, although you submitted a month after us on this thread, you may get special attention. 🙂

They absolutely give favoritism to their undergrad students. They're big on instate and FSU grads

lol RC813 I have like identical stats to you, live in Tallahassee (but go to UF) and was complete 8/21 and nothing.

Whelp, I guess that makes it official for some of us who have been complete for months, they are not behind, they just don't like us. We are on the back burner sliding towards the trash. FSU was a top 2 for me, but I guess I'm #2 to them...:dead:

I wouldn't start freaking out because one person got an ii. There has been relatively little activity so I suspect they need to send out the bulk of their invites. Apparently FSU gets started slowly.

Definitely don't start freaking out yet. They interview all through the spring too. Best of luck to all of you!

I remember you from a few weeks back lol

I think you'll get an invite with similar stats, just not as soon.
