2014-2015 Florida State University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
So what is the deal with Second Look? Is it recommended to go to? What is the attire?

The dress code is business casual. It's a great opportunity to get to know the school and what they have to offer. Even if you're sure FSU is for you, it's worth coming so you can get some info. I came last year for mine (current M1 here) and I took the opportunity to sign a lease for an apt.

I'm a little worried about the housing situation because every complex I like has terrible reviews. I know I should take those with a grain of salt but since I live in south Florida and know nothing about Tally, I'm stuck depending on them. Can any current FSU/FAMU/Tallahassee students please suggest some decent apartment complexes near the school? I'm looking for a 1/1 or a 2/2 (I would need a female roommate for this one if anyone's interested) apartment. Thank you so much!

I'm a current M1 student and I live in a 1/1 at Seminole Flatts which is down on Call street, like a 7 min walk from the med school. I liked it so much that I renewed for next year. There are maybe 7 of us M1s who live here now and more classmates are moving here for M2 year. Definitely go see the property.

Okay, that's more understandable. I'm not looking at The Luxe because of the price but I have been looking at Seminole Flatts, thanks for your input!

Current M1 here living at Seminole Flatts and I've had a great experience. It's been super quiet, which is what i need the most!

I'm going to see both complexes in two weeks! Thanks for the input! I love positive "reviews"!

Opened an email from FSU this morning expecting an rejection but... an interview invite instead! Currently debating if it's worth the money to fly in (unless I'm mistaken, the only close airport that interviewees fly into is Tallahassee Regional, right?) The flights to this airport look really expensive.

I have an II as well, depending on where youre coming from it would be a lot cheaper to fly into a big city like Jax, Fl and drive to Tallahassee. Its only about a 2.5 drive taking I-10 West

Does anyone know how long they interview until? Like when will the last interview invitations be sent out? I still haven't heard anything back after submitting my secondary

So with all of this housing talk here is a nice map my friend who just moved out of Tallahassee drew up for me. Colors:
Green=Good
Yellow= Ehh
Red= Bad
Black/Grey= indifferent

I lived in Tallahassee for a couple years, this map is legit. I would put the area in the bottom right as red to yellow also.

The doctor I work for (Dr. Robert Thornberry) is currently building an apartment complex near the med school. They will be brand new and open in May 2015. There are only 10 units and he anticipates them to go fast. The 1 bedroom is around $1000, but it has over 1,000sf and a separate study. The 2 bedroom is around $1200. They include parking and possibly cable/big screen tv. They look reallllly nice. And they're going to have shops underneath the apartments - hair salon, clothing, food, iv therapy. You can walk to the med school in 5 minutes!

Anyway, if you want to check it out, contact Miranda Ard at 850-702-9100 to get the details! They should have the website up soon, and I'll post that when it's ready.

^^^Here's more info on these apartments. They only have 6-7 left. And they can be furnished for an extra $100/month. He's also offering FREE RENT for May!

I feel silly asking this, but once your acceptance package is complete (immunizations, residency forms) how do you enroll? Do they open enrollment up later?

Anyone know when the Bridge committee meets? I feel like it's the end of April and they notify people the beginning of May?

Rejected post-II this morning. Placed on hold March 5th and interviewed on Feb. 20....first post-II rejection and it really stings! I must not have been what they were looking for :/

Did you send in a LOCI? Interesting that they only kept you on the hold list for a few weeks.

Nope, I haven't contacted them since the hold...I wasn't expecting to get a decision so soon.

Still OOS with no II. Interested in primary care and from a underserved rural area. Took an intentional gap year. ~3.75 science GPA, undergrad research at large university, current medical assistant with 3000+ hours, great PS and BS, embarrassing VR. Sent in update letter in February with reply from FSU stating they would update my application. still hoping for the best, but starting to worry. 😵 I've been complete since September.

FYI they accept like 98% in state, and the approx one-three OOS person they take has super strong ties to Florida. Not sure you should expect anything as an OOS student...

Enroll? As in register for classes? If that's what you mean, you don't. You are automatically enrolled in the classes you should be taking.

If you mean when they meet to make the final selection, it is usually in May the same week they notify the selected students.

I meant is there something else I need to send to say I'm going to fsu med. Right now the only thing I know about is orientation and second look. I got no letter or email about how to pay tuition or anytging. Do u just go to orientation and boom become a student?
I feel so dumb right now 🙁

Same. I interviewed same day as you.

Did anyone use the dropbox to upload their immunization form. If so how long did it take for them to confirm that they received it

IS applicant here who still hasn't received an II or pre-II rejection. Does anyone know if there is still hope? I know they interview up until mid-April, but I imagine that means they're wrapping things up... ::fingers crossed::
