2014-2015 Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Let's hope we find out this Halloween or sooner! COME ON SINAI WE LOVE YOU

do they silent reject? complete since 7/13 and silence....

Same, completed more than a month ago and still nothing! Does anyone know if Sinai sends out rejections alongside IIs, or do they just hold on to your app until the end of interview season?

Does anyone know by any chance whether Mt Sinai does silent rejection? I have been complete since early August, but have not heard anything back from them at all. Starting to lose hope now...

I found a 2011 thread listing schools that allegedly silent reject, and Mt Sinai is on that list. However, judging from this thread they prob haven't started scheduling interviews for Jan yet, so we still have hope....

i sure hope so! I passed sinai this past weekend on my visit to albert einstein and would love a chance at the school

I really thought yesterday would be the day! Bummer. Did anyone who interviewed recently hear another proposed timeframe for decisions?

Guess it's time for me to give up hope lol (complete mid August, still no word on an interview).

MSSM why no love? 🙁
Complete 7/23. My fingers are crossed! :xf:

II this morning! Complete 10/4, LizzyM ~low 70's, OOS. There were a few November interviews still available and almost all of December was free. Good luck and good vibes to those still waiting!

Congrats! If you don't mind sharing, do you have heavy bench research experience?

...so about 'dem post-interview decisions? Guess we'll still have to remain in panic mode. :scared:

II today!! And it's my first one, too! Yay!!! Complete mid-August, non-trad, LizzyM ~70, OOS. I'm so excited and nervous! Need serious interview prep help please! And if anyone knows where to get cheap airfare, please let me know!

Congratulations! 😀 I loved my visit here. For airfare I've been using the Google ITA Matrix (it's pretty good at planning "open jaw"/multi-city trips), though you cannot buy tickets directly from the site. Kayak has also served me well.

Just started benching again so not really. Jk, I have 2 years bench lab experience, no publications or anything like that though.

You had me cracking up! 🙂

Thanks for sharing. I know Sinai is research heavy, and I wasn't sure if that would be a major deterrent for me. Good luck on your interview!

Hopefully today is the day, sending positive vibes to everyone:xf:

and yet another day of waiting commences...

FAQ on the admissions page says Nov 15...but they told me about a month when I interviewed in September so idk what to believe 🙁

Sorry to bump this during business hours, but has anyone sent a post-interview interest/intent letter or know if Sinai is receptive?

The language is a little wishy-washy:

The earliest date of notification of acceptance is generally November 15.

Jessica, the person who runs the show in the admissions office, seemed awesome. I am tempted to just call and ask, "Jessica, what's up with you guys this year!"

Sorry to bump this during business hours...

Ha ha, I was the person who mentioned the no bumping during business hours rule, and even I'm breaking it today. Can't hold it in any longer!

If you do end up calling, let us know what she says! She definitely was awesome so hopefully she can allay our suspense a little bit.

Oops, I don't think I can bring myself to call them. Shouldn't have brought it up in public. Maybe next week...

A few days ago I was like: "Maybe I should just call the admissions office. It's what any sane, rational premed would do."
So I plugged the number into my phone and was about to press dial when my brain went "nope nope nope nope" and I was filled with all sorts of irrational fears about having Jessica answer and go "Well, just for asking... you're rejected!"

Anyone wish to volunteer as our tribute?

Okay, I volunteer. I was the one to bring it up.

Unfortunately, there was no answer just now.

Haha you guys gotta relax; the answers will come when they will come, you can't really do much about it at this point. At least you are lucky enough to be even in such a position to be waiting for answers. (Come on Mt. Sinai show me some love...)

At my interview at the beginning of October, they said we would probably hear in about a month, but that we should follow up if we didn't hear after about six weeks (so November 15). Also, looking at the past 6 years in SDN, the dates range from October 31 to November 20 for the first Sinai acceptance emails, with the average date being November 10. Although the wait is excruciating, it seems like it could continue for another week or so...just keep holding fast a little longer!

Finally someone more obsessive than I am. Hold my beer, I'm out.

My heart leaps every time this thread is bumped (not that I am helping the situation any). C'mon Sinai!!

Welcome aboard, @balulalow. I can see you're going to do great things in this thread.

Okay, time for the weekend! Personally, I find the @balulalow analysis convincing, and I will be sitting tight through next week. Also, the AAMC annual meeting is today through Tuesday, so that's another reason to tell ourselves they will be slow to get to us.

Anyway, I just hope that when they do let us know, it all goes smoothly. As I wrote in our class thread, you don't want a botched rollout on Mount Sinai...

Usually I do in-depth research like this in order to pass the time/make myself feel better while waiting to hear back... Now there is no point because you guys have already done it 10x better.. Lol guess I'll go back to studying for my classes now -_-

But seriously I'm glad I am not alone. Let's all hang in there

Does anyone know if Sinai is receptive to pre-interview updates? Like research or pubs or anything?

Haven't heard anything about this, though I doubt it would hurt to send something substantive in. The worst they can do is say they don't accept them.

Did anyone stay with a student host and would you recommend it? I have a relative in upper manhattan so I don't necessarily have to stay with a student host, I'm just curious as to whether or not anyone really liked it/hated it.

I stayed in Aron hall with an MS2. Everyone I met was extremely friendly and I slept on their couch in the common room. It's not the most ideal set-up for light sleepers, but I wasn't bothered by it. I'd recommend it.

Anyone in town for their interview tomorrow wanna grab dinner tonight?! Let me know! 🙂

My interview is not until later this week. I'd grab dinner with you if I'm not immobilized due to an accident. Enjoy NYC. If you need recommendation for where to eat/hangout let me know. If you like (unlimited amount of) sushi for $23, I highly recommend Yuka around 82nd and 2nd ave.
