I've been told to always apply with the committee no matter what; it makes it look like you're hiding something if you don't. But on the other hand, there have been many successful applicants that didn't apply with the committee. It's really up to you.

If you are eligible to use the committee (been enrolled at LSU for the last 2 semesters), LSUNO "strongly advises" that you go through the committee. Take that as you will. I applied without the committee, but I was out of school for over a year.

I don't think it would hurt you not to have a committee letter. As long as you have the appropriate LORs, you'll be fine. My personal opinion is that it's better to have letters from the appropriate professors who know you as a student now, as opposed to the committee who would only know you based on your record 4+ years ago.
 
Just received the rejection letter (dated 21st, mailed on 22nd). Non-trad, very very late application, no II. Good luck to those waiting to hear back!

Wouldn't the committee look at and comment on my 32 hours of post-bacc work? Do they actually only focus on the courses you took prior to receiving your degree?

They look at everything but focus on the most recent.
 
Scarlet, you mentioned in your above post that in order to be eligible to use the committee, you must have attended LSU for the past 2 consecutive semesters. Is that correct?

As mentioned earlier in the thread, I accrued 26 post-bacc credits back in 2013, but am finishing the last 6 credits now, and therefore haven't been at LSU for the past 2 semesters (just the current semester). Does this eliminate me from being eligible to use the committee?

I'm so sorry. It hurts to be rejected after so much effort put into the application process. I hope you got accepted somewhere else.
 
Thanks, chemy! The application was infact submitted very late. Staying positive and will go talk to Dr Eubanks. All the best to you too!

Nevermind—also just received the rejection letter (dated 21st, mailed on 23rd). Non-trad, won't attain 32-hour rule until...TWO WEEKS from now (currently only 28-hour MS degree), no II.
What's the big idea with the snail mail?

Also, will McClugage/Eubanks really not even start scheduling appointments to meet with us lucky ones until the end of May??

And yeah! Good luck to the rest of you all still waiting!!

I know I should know this by now but can anyone explain what non-trad means.
 
I consider myself a non traditional applicant because I am applying years ( I am talking more than a decade) after finishing my undergrad. For some others it may just be a few years after their undergrad degree or post graduate school or career changers. Mostly anyone who is not following the traditional path- high school to college to med school (with no or little break).

The letter definitely said *end of May* you can call for an appointment. Hopefully it's wrong.

I sent McClugage this yesterday:
"I just received a rejection letter from you today, so please disregard the beginning of my last email. Still, is it really not possible to meet until June?"

His reply:
"You can call the office at 568-6262 to schedule an appointment. My staff will provide dates for such."

Obviously haven't been able to do that yet, but I guess we should know these dates for sure by tomorrow.
 
To those who interviwed, how long after your interview did you get a response..either NFA status, accepted or rejected.

I got mine about two weeks after as well, but I believe that was due to when I interviewed. They meet if I remember correctly every third or fourth Thursday of the month to decide your status. So if you interview in the first week of the month then you're prob gonna wait a little longer than someone who interviews in the second or third week. But since you interviewed in April I would assume that its gonna be different cause I believe the second week in April is the last week to interview and its getting close to the double-hold date and making a waitlist time. But I say all this I'm not sure... just from what I've read from all the threads and my experience.
 
Oops. I was about to send in a letter. Still will regardless the outcome.

I'm confused because I interviewed April 7th and I haven't received/heard anything. I was under the impression we'd hear back by Wednesday of last week, because they were meeting April 17th to make a decision on us. --- so, I called them last Thursday to clarify, but she kinda made it seem like some letters were going out, not everybody, and that it may drag out until May 8th-ish before some of us would find out our status.

This waiting is driving me crazy!

(First post but Ive been using SDN for like 3-4yrs haha)

The letters usually go out with acceptances first, then NFAs/Rejections a day or so later. However, this doesn`t seem to be the case as some people were receiving rejection letters last week. I interviewed April 6th. I have yet to hear anything back. When I called today, they told me that letters went out today. So I have no clue.

Are these hard copies, as in via USPS? -- I was assuming e-mail because the invitation was via email. Regardless, I think we're gonna be hearing something very soon.
 
Finally received a rejection letter, dated April 21. No II, but interviewed last year 🙁. Best of luck to all of you!

wow that's kind of surprising particularity since you interviewed last year. I would have thought you had a better chance getting in this year. Best of luck buddy.
 
Why in the world isn't all of this just done by email? It is terrible waiting to hear news that was decided almost 2 weeks ago. It's even worse that this "news" is more than likely just "No Final Action".

I have two rooms in a 3br house for rent at $400 each, plus electric and gas. The rent includes internet and water/sewer/trash. I'm living in the third room, but I'll be spending most of the year in Baton Rouge doing my MS3 core rotations. Both rooms have been newly remodeled, with fresh paint and refinished hardwood floors. The kitchen is fairly big, and there's a fenced backyard. The house is in Upper Bywater. It is 10-15 minutes from the med school and about 5 minutes from Frenchman Street and the French Quarter.

The reason I'm charging such cheap rent is that I'm still doing some remodeling work to the exterior and in the kitchen and living room. All I have left to do are little things like painting and trim carpentry, but you will need to be okay with walls that need a coat of paint and a house that looks shabby from the outside. All the work is done in the bedrooms and bathroom though, so any work I do won't be in your room.

Hey man, this is the application thread for the med school. Most of us haven't been accepted yet to New Orleans. Not sure if there is already a thread made for the accepted med students for the upcoming year or not but you may have better luck in that thread if no one gets back to you. Sounds like a great place tho!!

Thanks, I thought so too, especially since I've improved my app. I set up an appointment with Eubanks to talk it over, so I guess we'll see.
