2014-2015 Ohio State University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I fixed my issue, finally. Here y'all go. Time to get to the clinic, so I can't work on it now.

How did you fix your issue? I have the same one! "Incorrect buckeye link" every. single. time.

Ok, it's kind of complicated.

You click the link in the e-mail, then the link on the error page. It takes you to a new site. Click the "Future students" tab. Then the Log In button. Once you log in, you will get to a page that says "(Your Name)'s Applicant Center". From there you need to click on the Main Menu drop down menu, then Student Self Service, then OSU Supplemental Applications, then Medicine. That should get you to the secondary.

I'm also having the issue where the window is seriously small. I've tried accessing it on Chrome and IE. Hopefully the issue gets resolved soon, I don't want to accidentally leave out anything because I didn't see a box.

Yes, thank you. I apologize for not spelling it out. I had to get to work.

I called, they are aware of both issues and are working on them.

Thanks! I got the secondary!

Now I have a tiny window haha. This is a ****show.

secondary received... doesn't look too bad... feel I can recycle past essays for these LETS GOOOOO

Dumb question, but just to verify, the "account creation" email isn't the same thing as the secondary email, right? I'm not missing an obvious link to the secondary? Will the secondary link come later? 😕

They sent the account activation email and then the secondary link a day later for me.

I got the activation email 2 days ago and just got the email for the secondary today. They also sent it twice because they finally fixed the issue with the wrong/funky link. Everybody should be getting the correct link today. They said they'd start sending out secondaries on the 14th, but it still depends on when you were verified.

As a reapplicant, they say to list medical schools that you've previously applied to...seriously?

Yeah, I didn't like that. I really don't want to talk about the first time I applied because it shows how immature I was at the time. I have a totally different set of medical schools this cycle than I did the first time (except my state school) so I hoped I wouldn't have to talk about it lol

According to MSAR, anatomy is a prerequisite. Should I even bother submitting a secondary if I haven't taken an anatomy course?

Their website seems to suggest they would be accommodating. I think you'd be fine to apply and if you get in you can take anatomy next summer online.

Anatomy is definitely a must-have (I emailed admissions several months ago). The COM website has a list of acceptable online courses with/without virtual labs that you can take. Best of luck 😀

For the "Financial" section of the app, it asks who I'm dependent on for more than half of my financial support, I'm kind of torn on what to put. On the one hand, my parents took care of my education for me while I was an undergraduate. Although I'm currently still living at home (and claimed as a dependent on my dad's taxes), I make my own car payments, pay for all of my expenses out of my own pocket. What do you guys think? THANKS 😀

What is this? An application for ants?

Gunner status: doesn't wait for issues to be fixed, completes secondary using this tiny window.

Thank you both for the laughs! Between the security questions and the activation code that expires and the tiny window, looks like we'll be on an uphill climb to complete this secondary. 🙂

Does anyone know if there is a maximum number of LORs that OSU accepts?

I'm pretty sure that is just used to establish residency information. If you both live in Ohio, then it doesn't really matter at all what you put. Who covers the most of your living expenses? That would include rent, bills, car payments, etc. I'm assuming they are asking about right now, so whatever your parents gave you in college is irrelevant.

does anyone know how to check your status after submitting? I've tried using the link in the email, and also the link on their admissions website but I can't figure it out.

Living at home and being a dependent on your dad's taxes makes me think you should put your parents. Is your car payment and other expenses greater than what you would pay for rent/utilities/cell phone/groceries? If not then more than half of you financial support is still coming from your parents.

Is everyone IS that has received a secondary? I'm OOS and still haven't even received the 'create account' email...

I'm OOS, but I was complete for the AMCAS super early, so it's probably just taking them a long time to process everything.

Thanks. My MCAT scores weren't released until the 15th so that may have contributed to the holdup. Still waiting on a LOR as well.

MCAT might hold you back, LOR's don't affect you (I got the email and my advisor is sending her letter packet this week). Give em another week or so.

Does anyone get this message when trying to submit or save their secondary? Pretty sure I didn't plagiarize anything, so I don't know what this is about.

"Data being added conflicts with existing data. (18,2)

When adding a new item to the database, the system found a conflicting item already exists.

This problem can happen if another user has entered similar information at the same time as you. Note the changes you have made, cancel the page, then retry your changes.

If the problem persists, it may be because of an application or other programming error and should be reported to technical support staff.

I would call their tech support. It may not be plagiarism, it could be you clicking a button too many times or some other error out of your control.

I had this error and got around it. I think it was because of the re-applicant section where you list all the schools you applied to before. I think if there are any open, empty spaces, it will give you that error. You can try starting over and keep saving after every small step in order to diagnose where the issue is.

I was getting the same message. I calle tech support and they said they would forward the issue to the right people.

Thanks for the input guys! I'll try the advice 😀

ugh you know waht's annoying? Being a reapplicant and inputing your 24 schools and when you try to save, you get that Error Message. Like I spent all the time to input those schools and you guys say you can't save. And then.....whoops gets kicked out of the application b/c I've been "idle" thus losing all the schools I inputed. Really OSU? Reallyy???

just submitted... everything seemed to go through fine... however I didn't get any email confirmation or anything but when I log in it doesn't let me change anything sooooo.... I guess I will just let it be it says it takes 3-5 days

+1. Unique application site they have, I'll be checking back pretty often.

Anybody else get an email notifying them of a status change, and then after following the instructions to view the status change get to a webpage that says access denied?

Yep, the username and password they gave me is not working so I can't check the status change.

Did you follow the new password they gave you in that email? Also, did you make sure the letters were uppercase?

Besides, I got it too, it just put my status as application received. You're probably not missing out on anything.

Yep, I got it too. I am slightly confused about why there is now another page with a new password just to tell us the application was submitted. Is this the site where we should check our application status from now on?

Regardless of what I try I can't get rid of this message! I entered 4 schools and saved after each one without a problem, but regardless of what I put in on the 5th school I get that message. Did you discover any secret trick? I'm annoyed because the rest of my app is ready to submit.

I've made sure to do all of that, did you sign in as an OSU user, a guest, or an applicant?
