2014-2015 Oregon Health & Science University Application Thread

Well I had my exit interview today. Very informative! I learned I have to retake the MCAT. So there's that. There were a few bumps with my interview. But they were impressed with everything else. Thank goodness.
I encourage everyone who was waitlisted (and not accepted yet) to schedule an exit interview, because it is very helpful. And next year the admissions committee will not compare your previous app with your current app, rather they will look at the notes from the exit interview and see if you improve on the things they suggest to improve.

Thats great! Thank you for the heads up 🙂. I am excited to know what else I can do. My exit interview is in few weeks. Yay!👍

Mine is at the very end of June! I was also informed that there are currently 12 pending acceptances, so should anticipate some movement in the next few weeks!

That great news since you are in the 60's. I hope you get in! So does this mean the list will not move too much?

Does that mean it will only move a maximum of 12 spots for the rest of the time?

No because some of those 12 could not accept then ghosts spots(waitlist numbers who already declined) then the people who get accepted after who then turn it down.

Does anyone know how long people have to decide once they are notified of acceptance? a few weeks?

I think it's 2 weeks...? Apparently, there is only 1 ghost spot between 51 and the mid 60s.

What did they say about your mcat? Just that it wasn't a high enough score? I've wondered this as my mcat was pretty bad but I have a slim chance at coming off the waitlist in the 70's

Well to be frank my MCAT score (27) was the only thing they really found lacking in my application, (they had some critiques on my interview but nothing else) so to improve my application they said I "should consider" retaking... so I pretty much have to, because the next committee will see that that is what was suggested I improve..

Retaking is never fun but very concrete. At least you can make a clear game plan! GL!!

Has anyone here taken or taking OSU's online Biochemistry course? Please PM me!

Yup, for a biochemistry requirement at a different school. If anyone has personally taken it at OSU online, please let me know. Thanks!

Does anyone know how late you can update your file for next year's application? My weakest part of my application is my GPA and I start grad school in August. It goes by semester so my grades wont be available till December. I am worried they might not see my grades before deciding. But I also do not want to wait to reapply since other schools are rolling admission.

What number are you guys calling in order to schedule an exit interview?

I think the only updates that apply to the decision is updates sent once you are granted an interview and then interview. I was told updates after that don't change anything because your application has been reviewed and a score has been given....not sure if grades would be different.

I will have to ask during my exit interview. I was sick during my interview and had a difficult family event that occurred a week before the interview. So, I think the areas I can improve on is GPA and interview. I have a lot of clinical experience as a CMA for 4 years. I may need to do more volunteering. I don't think my 3 years of 3.7 GPA post-bach was enough so I am getting a masters degree. I just hope my interview is after December so they will have a chance to look at my grades in the masters program for medical sciences.
I hope during my exit interview they can tell me more.

This wait list is moving like molasses now....Or maybe it just feels that way because I check 20x per day. Haha...

Hey guys question for everyone: so exit interview done and i would love anyone's input who had really good feedback for their MMI!
Most of the feedback was on the lines of timid, passive, needed prompting. Just wondering what peoples strategies were? Best to fill the whole time with you talking?

your feedback just seems like you need more practice interviewing in general-- as in, be yourself and *enjoy* the process of being asked some difficult questions. Maybe find some mentors or people who don't know you well, but are in positions of authority, and maybe some people who may intimidate you, and have them interview you! To try to be true to yourself in the interview does take practice, and with the MMI, where it can be stressful (depending on how you look at it..) this doesn't help much. If you imagine that you are being interviewed by people who want you to succeed, even if they comport themselves very professionally, and even a bit distant, you should feel more comfortable having and sustaining a conversation.

Edit: to add that I haven't had my feedback session yet, and won't for a few weeks now. But I felt very comfortable during the MMI, even though I had a raging cold and my ears blew out during the descent into PDX, so it was difficult for me to hear. 😛

I had really good feedback for my one on one interview - I was just wondering were most people filling the whole 7 minutes or so talking? I feel like I would give a concise answer then they would ask a question etc etc so they asked 4 or 5 questions in each MMI. Was that the experience people with good feedback had?

I think there is still hope for some movement.. at least that is what I am telling myself

hey, for people applying this year -- should I apply for this coming year if I'm not an oregon resident/no ties to oregon? how has everything been for people who have applied?
