2014-2015 The University of Toledo Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I have an interview here coming up next week, I was wondering if there is any advice or a rundown of how the interview went as in if it laid back or not. Anything would be helpful especially since I was kind of surprised to get the interview invite so late into the cycle.

Two one on one interviews with faculty, both about an hour long. Expect the obvious questions (why medicine, why toledo, etc), ethics/HR type questions, questions about activities on your app, and then some random conversation. Some of the ethics questions can be a little tough IMO.

Another school that I was accepted to has a required health certification form where your doctor has to confirm you've received the proper immunizations as well as confirm you meet the school's technical standards. I want to go to the doctor soon - does anyone have a link to UT's form for that?

Any OOSers know if there are any loopholes with the exorbitant tuition here? Is it possible to become a resident or do they offer any tuition waivers? Recently got an II and just curious because it is very very expensive for OOS COA according to MSAR.

Don't quote me on it, but i'm preeeeeeety sure you can declare IS after one year. Would double check that though.

Also, any idea when UToledo publishes their match lists?

They passed it out at the second look event, so it will probably be available on their website soon.

Cool. Thanks!

How'd second look go?
Standard stuff (tour, financial aid presentation, student panel, etc.), but I'm glad I went back to check it out. It gave me a better feel for the school.

I actually had the same exact question a little while ago! If you're willing to dig around a little, some of the past threads give some information on it! It seems like they have some pretty substantial financial aid for OOS'ers though!

Well folks, I officially submitted my letter declining my OOS spot at Toledo. Definitely a bittersweet moment. It would have been an absolute privilege to study with you folks. You all seem like a fantastic bunch! 🙂 Best of luck in medical school! We are going to absolutely crush it! 😉

I think the students mentioned that you can get IS tuition as an OOS starting from the second year of school, which would bring the cost down. Apparently it's not that hard to do. On the other hand, I haven't received anything from the school regarding financial aid estimates.

Their communications say no updates, but I vaguely remember hearing Kris say updates could be emailed after interview day... Can anyone verify this?

Has anyone who interviewed the week of March 26th heard back?

Doubtful. It hasn't even been two weeks. When i interviewed at the beginning of Feb, they told me up to 6 weeks. I found out in just around 3. So maybe you you guys will hear by sometime at the end of this week or the beginning of next at the earliest.

Hah just got an email this morning that I got in! See you this fall 🙂

Also- do we apply for the scholarships listed online or are we chosen?

Apply. Unfortunately you missed the general UT student scholarship deadline (April 1st), but the general college of medicine one is due on the 15th. You should get an email that explains all of this.

Also interviewed the week of March 26th, but haven't heard anything yet. Anyone know if this is bad news or simply just no news? Curious as to if waitlisted or denied people also get emails in the mornings or if they come at different times.

I was accepted on a Wednesday like most people, but my acceptance email came in the afternoon. Around 1:30, I believe.

II, from the email it appears their last interview date is April 23

Former MSBS student here.

With regards to waitlist movement historically if you are on the high priority portion of the waitlist (typically top 1/3rd) you'll have a high chance of gaining admission. Waitlist movement post-5/15 is not dependent on the status of current MSBS students undergoing their interview process as the admissions committee does not meet to deliberate their files until early-mid June.

Good to know, thank you! I've been told that I'm high priority, but I was also told they are only doing high and low priority now, which makes it harder to tell what your chances may be haha.

Did they send you an email saying you were high priority? I'm just curious because I thought prioritization doesn't occur until mid-May. Either way, I'm jealous. I feel like I have been waiting forever for May to get here to find out my priority!

I was to have a phone conversation with the dean about my application, but it ended up she had a time conflict. I was contacted by the admissions office and was told to just be patient and send them updates at the end of this month and that I was high priority. They said they rank into high and low priority.

@Carpe-Noctem What do you like most about M1 so far? Do you personally attend classes (be honest)? And if you don't mind me asking, in what area of Toledo do you live? Thank you in advance!

@Carpe-Noctem Thanks for the response, I really appreciate it!!! I am definitely pumped to move to Toledo this summer and start medical school in the fall.

accepted here this morning!!! could any other current students provide insight into the atmosphere and any of their favorite things about the school, also where is a good/close apartment complex to live in

also curious how is the student/social life outside of school, does student government host any formals or events?

Does anyone know if they are still giving interview invites? Has anyone received one recently?

Does anyone have their 2015 match list on hand? Not just speciality list but institutions

I only have the sheet on their website, which has states/most popular institutions. I'm not sure they put out every individual institution, but if you tour UT, the library has a map of where all the M4s matched.
With that said, they sent 13 to California, 7 to Texas, and 6 to New York.
Most popular hospitals: OSU, UT, Case Western, UCincy, Cleveland CLinic, St. Vincent, Riverside Methodist.

It's an administrative decision that we don't release our student-specific match results (and we're not the only ones to do this; CWRU, Emory and many other schools). There are internal documents for students that you'll be able to access once you matriculate.

but if you do enough facebook sleuthing you may be able to find some more information....

What's the reason for this? If they're doing it to protect anonymity, that would be silly since the majority of residency programs post a list of current residents and their medical school on their website.

I understand- just interested in learning more. For example, I know there are 6 or so in nyc but I'm interested in institutions in nyc and Cali where Toledo students match often. That's more important to me than the state.
