2014-2015 Tufts University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
When were you guys complete? I'm pretty sure my rejection email is on its way... Trying to prepare myself.

Was just rejected pre II
Huh. Not what the website says.

My application has been complete for a while now, and I haven’t heard anything. Does that mean I won’t get an interview?
No. We hold all complete applications under active consideration for an interview until the end of February, and we interview until the end of March. It is not uncommon for an applicant whose application became complete in the fall to be invited for an interview in the winter or spring.

Hm. Maybe the increase in application volume most schools have been getting this year forced them make some cuts earlier than usual?

Definitely a possibility, I saw some pre-II Rejections on the Jefferson thread and people were saying how Jeff never did pre-II rejections either.

Pre II rejection here, as well. Complete late August, found out via e-mail.

Anyone think there's significance to surviving the ax today? It seems like this was the first time they've sent out pre-II rejections en masse. (I was certain I would receive one given what today has looked like, and was holding my breath until 5pm! Hope they don't work late... would very much like to interview here.) Good luck to everyone still playing the game.

I'm thinking the same thing! I survived but is that even significant who knows!!!

Just noticed that 23:59 EST today is the deadline for their 2ndary -- that strikes me as not coincidental.
hmmm but to even be able to say you are rejected your 2ndary would have to be complete. So the rejections today are just people who didn't do the 2ndary...

Ok, I'm going to be a huge Debbie Downer, but I really don't think it's significant. These rejections come in daily waves. Einstein just rejected a bunch of people, and I thought I was in the clear, but the next day I got the same rejection. I was complete in September and fully anticipate receiving a rejection in the next couple of days.

+1

I survived huge rejection waves at several schools, and was always cut in the second one. Maybe their servers can only dish out so much disappointment at once ;P

Also received a rejection email today; seems like a tough year. I interviewed and was wait-listed to the ME track in a past year. Good luck to those still in the running!

maybe they send out rejections alphabetically by last name... just a theory?

I would think it more probable it would be in the order received/reviewed and decided to reject, no? Alphabetically I'm in the middle and chronologically in the application cycle I'm very late so either way I am anticipating the boot!

So I scoured last year's thread and could not find decisive info on those with "deferred" decisions. There were a bunch waiting into May and rumors of some getting accepted earlier. Any current students care to weight in?

Rejected pre interview just now. Good luck everyone!

rejected as well. pretty bummed, but on the bright side, my wallet will be slightly fuller 😉

I have a question about my current situation. I have been accepted to another medical school (Other Northeast Medical School) and will need to start searching for apartments in the next few months. I interviewed for Tufts Maine Track in November and was given a "deferred decision" in early December. I sent a letter of interest shortly thereafter. I would love to attend TUSM. My fear is that I will sign a lease for an apartment near Other Northeast Medical School, Tufts will swoop in with an acceptance during late spring or early summer, and I will be unable to attend (this is obviously a fantasy).

I have heard absolutely nothing from TUSM since receiving their decision letter. I understand that adcoms typically respond negatively to external pressure, but is it appropriate to make my situation known to them? According to SDN, I have survived the last few rejection rounds. I'm interested in finding out what's going on.

I need to add the caveat that I am perfectly happy to attend Other Northeast Medical School. I just want to know what's going on before I start doling out checks for living space.

It's only January. While you can search for apartments, I can't imagine you would be signing a lease until July, assuming the school starts in August. If you still haven't heard anything then, you could ask when you might expect to receive a decision, but I don't think telling them you'll be stuck with a lease elsewhere will encourage them to accept you.

^this.

If you really want to go to Tufts over "other school" ride out the process. An apartment is a one year commitment. Going to the "right" med school for you has lifelong implications.

Couple questions:
1) Can you rent out rooms in the dorm on a month-by-month basis? May be trying to live with a law school friend but his current lease won't end until like september. I can't remember the details on the dorm that they told us on interview day.

2) Has anyone heard any news from admissions on when they think second look will be? I had called a few weeks back and just got "you'll get an email"

Did anyone receive a confirmation after sending an update?

Did you email them? I uploaded them on the portal... I actually haven't checked to see if they got it, so I might call them tomorrow.

I uploaded it on the portal as well. I guess I thought there would be some sort of automatic message or something.
