2014-2015 Tufts University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
a friend of mine and I interviewed on the same day for the maine track late in october and my friend was accepted the other day. radio silence for me, though.

another maine track question for anyone who might know...

I know that Tufts itself sends out rejection and deferral emails, but should I expect the same from the maine track? I interviewed in late october, and I'm wondering if the maine track doesn't notify its deferred applicants and instead just keeps them in the wings, re-reviewing them the next month. I just need to stop obsessively checking my email and holding my cell phone if that's true (for my own sanity)!
I interviewed for the Maine track two years ago and received a deferral email about a month later, so unless they've changed it a lot in the past couple of years, I'd expect they should tell you soon either way. Best of luck!!

Has Tufts sent out any Maine Track decisions? I interviewed in November, but have heard nothing either way. I have a deposit due at another school very soon. I'm starting to lose it. The wait... I just... I can't.

Biodome, I think we're in the same boat here. Is UNE the other school? If I don't hear anything today, I'm going to call/email Tufts to tell them my situation and see if I can at least get some info. I'll let you know.

UNE is the other school. I'd like to at least have an idea of what's going on before I write that giant check for UNE's deposit.

I'd anyone else a bit worried that they haven't been called yet? Have any deferral emails been sent out this week?

I'm definitely a bit worried. I haven't heard anything yet. Interviewed 11/13.

Well, I just got a deferred email from admissions. I interviewed Maine Track in October.

"Thank you very much for interviewing at the Maine Medical Center for the MMC-TUSM Maine track. We enjoyed meeting you and were very favorably impressed with your candidacy.

I would like to inform you that after a thorough review subsequent to your interviews, the Maine track admissions committee has deferred making a final decision on your application. The committee has instead opted to compare your application to the applications of other candidates who will be interviewed as the interview season progresses.

This letter does not signal any change in the status of your application. Your application remains active for a position in the traditional MD program/Maine track in our first year class.

This letter does not mean that you have been Wait-Listed. Please do not be discouraged; it is not at all uncommon for our committee to place qualified applicants in the “deferred decision” category, and many applicants initially placed in this category will ultimately be admitted.

We will contact you as soon as the committee has reached a final decision on your application. A final decision will be reached at any time between now and the end of May. We regret that we cannot be more specific in terms of predicting when our committee will reach a decision on your application. Please bear with us as we try to compare and evaluate the credentials of the many highly qualified candidates in our interview pool.

Sincerely,

John A. Matias, M.Ed.
Associate Dean of Admissions and Enrollment Services
Tufts University School of Medicine"

Looks like the deferred emails have gone out. Just got one myself for the Boston campus, basically the same as above. Interviewed 11/4. Hang in there everyone we'll get in if it's meant to be. And those of you who've already gotten acceptances, congrats you're on your way towards an amazing and fulfilling career!!

also deferred for the maine track, i interviewed 10/31. does anyone know if there's any trend regarding when deferred applicants get reconsidered? i know one maine tracker who was deferred in january and accepted in may.

Does anyone know what percentage of applicants get a deferred decision?

I got the deferral e-mail yesterday (12-5). I interviewed on 10-28. Yuck. I know it's not over...

So I think it's safe to say the answer is no.

I wrote one 2 weeks ago but didn't hear anything back so far 🙁

Dear OP,

Since updates are submitted and confirmed online, I wouldn't expect Tufts to ever get back to you about it.

That still doesn't really answer the question of receptivity. I think at worst, it annoys them to have another paper to staple to your file and at best it is reviewed by the committee. I figure I have nothing to lose from updating them, so I sent them one 6 weeks ago and I am sending another one today because I have significant updates for them. In both cases, the updates were regarding something that would add a line to my resume (a useful rule of thumb that I picked up from some SDN thread a while back), if I were to update the my resume from when I sent in my primary in June. I think if your update was significant, then you did the right thing and that you shouldn't worry about not hearing back from them.

It also says on the portal, "You are welcome to upload memos from yourself to our admissions committee."

Oh, I didn't notice that you could upload updates. I emailed them with updates twice (post interview) and got a response both times.

Yeah it's sort of hidden in their portal. Under the user options tab there is a space to upload documents.

Yep. I'm wondering if they do silent rejections?

There was a poster on this thread that said they were rejected pre-interview. On page 9 they said they were rejected on 12/3. However, it doesn't seem like they are rejecting a lot of people and also I am a reapplicant and remember during my first application cycle that I was silently rejected. I don't know what that means but I am really wishing for some news as well!

Good luck you all!

Thanks! At this point I'm probably more delusional than hopeful but I'd say that until late January silence is still better than rejection.

Good luck!

Complete 9/22. Still waiting on II. Anyone else in this boat?
You have no need to be concerned yet. I was complete for literally 15 weeks before my ii. Sometimes it just takes time. There were folks complete around my time who got ii's much earlier. I have to believe that they look at your file multiple times.

I was also complete sometime in September.. I certainly wouldn't be thinking "silent rejection" at this point.. The trend I have been seeing across many of the schools at this point is that all of the II's are going to the people complete in August.. We have to just keep waiting our turn.

I hope you're right about that!

For those of you wondering i looked back in the thread and it seems they consider all applications until february... Meaning no rejections so theres really no way to interpret silence except being worse and worse news

Well a quick look back on this thread would indicate that you are misinformed. Many people have received rejections so far this cycle (unless you are specifically referring to post interview rejections).

I thought it was posted somewhere, but can anyone share the US News stats? I have MSAR, but am curious to see the interview vs. acceptance vs. matriculation stats.

About 55% of those interviewed are accepted, and of those accepted, about 40% matriculate (21% of those interviewed matriculate). I'm weary of posting exact numbers but I hope that helps!

thanks, we can figure out the rest with the msar. 😉

Wow. An acceptance rate of 55% after interview is higher than I thought. Maybe receiving a deferred decision isn't so bad after all.

Yeah, I'm excited about that. And seeing as I have zero acceptances and very few options left, I need the odds in my favor. Plus I loved the school, so c'mon Tufts send me a nice belated Xmas present.

Maybe we'll get good news to start the new year.

Finally got an II from this school after four months of waiting (complete 8/8). Even though I would love to interview with Tufts, I no longer have the funds to make another cross country trip. Therefore, I will most likely be withdrawing my application. On the bright side, one of you fine applicants will be getting my spot. Good luck everyone!!!!!!!!!!!
