Anyone who interviewed for the Maine Program heard anything?
Nothing here. Dr. Bing-You said we should hear back in early November (I interviewed on the first Maine Track interview day 9/26), so I've started to impatiently tap my foot and stalk my phone/email for updates.

I have an interview in Portland for the Maine Track program on 11/14. Can any interviewees shed some light on what the interview day is like? I've interviewed at two schools so far, and had very different experiences (good ones, just different).

Just out of curiosity, when were you complete? Do you mind sharing stats? Good luck!

Any MD/MPH'ers get an II recently? Radio silence over here
Nothing yet over here. But I don't believe it makes a difference whether we applied for a dual program or not. Consideration for the dual program only begins once you've been accepted to the regular MD program first, if I'm not mistaken.

Hey guys! Anyone interviewing this Thursday 11/13? I am super excited to visit Tufts and was wondering if anyone had any feedback regarding the interviews. I know that there are two, 30 minute interviews that are ususally one on one but did anyone get any weird questions or ethical questions or was it very conversational regarding your extracurriculars?

Good luck to everyone!

I'll be interviewing on Thursday!

A friend of mine who interviewed at Tufts said that it was mostly conversational and chill, but he did get some ethical questions about Ebola.

i had my maine interview a few weeks ago. they do it MMI style. you'll have two 20-minute interviews with separate members of the admissions committee and then 6 10-minute interviews that have some kind of prompt/situation/topic, those are with different faculty and even some fourth-year students. they give an awesome tour of the simulation center there and a good walk around MMC. it was a really great day! everything was one-on-one and i got to meet some awesome people. i loved it. PM if you want any more details

II for Maine Track! so excited for this one. First available day was Jan 16.
Does anyone know if you can move to an earlier date if a spot opens up? The availability calendar is still showing up.

Completion date?

I got an email that I got into the MD/MBA program this week...BUT I have to surrender my MD only spot and there may not be one for me should I decide not to do the MBA. The extra degree is more $$$ and I have to decide before I see any financial aid (they give you 2 weeks). Anyone else in the same joint-degree pickle?

I wonder, since you have acceptance in hand, if it's worth a call explaining your dilemma and asking for a rush on your financial aid decision.

I would choose this decision very wisely if I were you and talk to current Tufts students. My understanding when I interviewed at Tufts was that the way they incorporate the "MBA" part of your degree in is that they cut from precious Step 1 studying time-- and my host and her friend didn't think the dual degrees there were a good idea in general.

Sorry if this sounds like a downer! 🙁 Tufts is still pretty dang awesome- dual degree or not!

Also, I thought that would cost you about 95k$ per year and then you also take like a bus to take these classes in Medford

MD tuition only at Tufts would put you up to ~600+k in debt with interest 10 years down the road!

Sorry if this sounds like a downer! I was really interested in a dual degree there too, but the cost of attendance at Tufts has made me reconsider going there 🙁

I think most MBA classes are at Waltham at Brandeis University's Heller School for Social Policy and Management not at Medford: which is the location of Tufts Undergrad. Waltham is 20-30 minutes away from Tufts Med Boston Campus by car depending on traffic and *how fast you drive.

*Native Mass**** and Tufts Undergrad Graduate

There is also a commuter rail stop (the line goes into North Station) and bus stop at Brandeis. Info coming from a Brandeis undergrad graduate 🙂

Although I don't think either of these would be a very efficient way to get to Brandeis from Tufts med school, haha. Just putting the info out there.

Anyone with a Maine Track interview coming up want to Skype and practice some MMI sample questions?

Anyone who already interviewed care to elaborate on how the actual interviews were? I've seen posts about the overall day, but nothing specific to the interview. Are they closed/open? Both faculty? Scripted/Laid back?

Thanks!

The interviews are open file (in fact, the interviewers have a computer so they can view your app during the interview if they want). Both of mine were with faculty, but I think it was possible to have one with a student. I wouldn't call them scripted exactly, but one of mine was considerably more stressful than the other.

Like cactus said they're open file, the interviewers are given your files a week in advance and can pour over it and make up questions as they see fit. Doesn't seem like Tufts gives them a format for the interview and it's up to them how the interview goes. Both my interviewers were practicing physicians in Tufts affiliated hospitals. It was a lot of fun, both were very easy going. In my first interview we hardly even talked about medicine, the other was a little more structured with your run of the mill interview questions (why medicine? etc), but there was a back and forth between the interviewer and I and not just rapid fire questioning. Both my interviews went considerably over the 30 minute mark, not really important if your interview is shorter or longer, just some insight on my experiences.

I think the best advice is to not stress out and BE YOURSELF. Sure I said some things that I was shaking my head at later, but overall it was a great experience and just two normal conversations. And remember to breathe!

The interviews probably depend on person to person; one of mine was a bit stressful, one not so much. Hopefully yours go's awesome!
