2014-2015 University of Alabama Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
WhatsApp, I recieved an email once I was accepted to send a specified person my phone number and I would be added to the group. Essentially it is like groupme and there are 2 people that I know of that work for UAB who are in the conversation.

Wow... I never got any such info. That would have been very useful these last five months.

Oh no! Maybe they started it after you were accepted. Don't worry, you haven't missed much of anything. Only questions about the facebook page, really. Which is now up!

So if the committee met yesterday then today is the day? Lol checking my email is interfering with work 😛 Class isn't full yet, so I'm hoping acceptances will be sent out before the 4-30 deadline

Really hope we hear something soon!

"deadline"....good one!!

I don't expect it out any time before the 30th, and i'm skeptical about that.

April 30th is the deadline to have your decision down to one school so they are obliged to have it in by that date. It can't be later than that unless you're waitlisted.

I think last year they did the last round of acceptances and then sent out the wait list a few days later. Every interview date should have been reviewed now, so I don't see why they won't have it out soon.

I hate to ask the same question over and over, but I'm dying here. Have any OOS applicants who interviewed on February 5th heard anything yet?

I interviewed 1/15 (OOS), and was accepted Wednesday, if that helps anyone

So, it's got to be some time this week, right? Graduation is so close and I still don't know what I'm doing with my life...
They'll probably wait til the 30th just to keep people waiting. But, I did check and it came out the 28th last year and there was one less date cancelled because of weather this year, which means it should come out this week hopefully.

Congrats, rugger4!!! Which way are you leaning at this point?
I'm going to try and wait and see how the money plays out. I received a scholarship from USA but it was minimal. I'll see if i get any love from UASOM.

Can we speculate that the class is pretty much full now and it's the waitlist that'll be released next?

Was @rugger4 the only person to receive an acceptance today? As for the class being almost full, i believe you're pretty much correct; however, I have heard that UAB plans to continue sending out a few up until next the 30th.

@UABme I haven't heard of anyone else getting in other than rugger4. It just doesn't seem like they've made many big waves of acceptances-- then again, I don't know how they operate.

@aldoctorgirl I agree. I swear they're going to have to send out a big wave of acceptances before the end of the month!

Someone suggested UAB takes so long to send acceptances and their waitlist because their class is so much larger than schools like USA. That sounds reasonable until you consider the Medical College of Georgia has a class size of 230(vs. UAB's 185) and has had its waitlist out since mid-March. Obviously MCG has a competent admissions office that understands the importance of letting applicants know where they stand as early as a possible.

They sent out an acceptance as late as mid-July last year - 2 weeks before orientation. I think the only thing you can count on with UAB is that all acceptances will be sent out before orientation - which is certainly reasonable since everyone should put their lives and the lives of their families on hold to accomodate UAB's (lack of a) timeline.

UAB's website says the deadline for submitting scholarship applications was April 16, and I was not able to complete the application since I have not been accepted. Were you able to get around that and submit an application before their deadline?

I emailed them this morning after I received my acceptance asking about the scholarship deadline. To me, it seems they put the deadline as April 16th because they wanted to have all their decisions done by the 15th. However, since their was a snow day and the interview dates got moved back I am thinking that they will allow those accepted later to apply too. It would seem a bit ludicrous to me that they would not let certain applicants apply for scholarship just because they interviewed or were accepted late.

Let us know what you hear back.

I can't provide any insight as to why the wait list always takes so long but the reason people get accepted up until orientation is because other people drop out of the class. Referring to TigerMD2017's comment, they aren't trying to be mean it's just people change their mind so last minute and they want to have a full class.

Maybe not intentionally being mean, but definite lack of consideration and/or complete indifference. MCG, who has similar or worse weather than Birmingham and a much larger class size (230) has had their waiting list out since last month. Emory, Tulane and USA also have had their waitlists out for weeks. I was rejected by Emory but appreciate that they didn't leave me twisting in the wind.

Forgot to post an update. Got accepted Monday! I also interviewed 3/26. Hopefully the wait list will be out very soon! I also called about the scholarship deadline and am just waiting for a call back. Will post if I find anything out.

Anyone accepted after the April 16th deadline will not be considered for scholarship. At least merit-based that is.

So, it is OK (at least in the minds of UAB and its defenders) for UAB to miss its deadlines because of "weather", but the deadlines for scholarship applications is not adjusted accordingly to be fair to applicants who have no control over the process? Good thing that everyone who applies to UAB is independently wealthy.

Rugger4 - does this mean you'll be a Jaguar?

Are you both OOS?

I am planning on attending UASOM. The scholarship from USA wasn't really enough to make that much of a difference. My only drawback with UAB has been how much higher USA's step 1 scores have been over UAB. However, UAB changed it's testing from lecture based to step 1 based 2 years ago so this years step 1 scores should be higher. After I found that out, UABs facilities and research opportunities sold me. Plus, Birmingham > Mobile.

Good luck at UASOM...and thanks for the help. I'm on the waiting list at USACOM.

Not sure if anyone can answer this, but is it possible that UAB releases a majority of out of state acceptances after they have decided on all in state? I ask because it seems like there have not been many OOS acceptances, also because I am anxiously waiting!

@TigerMD2017 Theres alot to be excited about with the wait list spot for USACOM.. I've been told by a lot of people that it moves fast come mid May. I hope you hear good news soon!
