2014-2015 University of Arizona Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
No they did not mention how many seats were offered so far. They said that the admissions committee will probably be meeting in the next week or two to make decisions (they mentioned that another round will be sent out before winter break) and then the next round wont be offered until mid January...

What is the latest interview date that has heard back from admissions?

Did they say how many seats they have offered so far?

I heard from a reliable source that they have accepted around 41 students thus far, and from that pool some have declined. I believe there have been 2 rounds of acceptances. Also, P-MAP will fill 10 seats....

I heard from another reliable source that they have not gotten to the applications for those who have interviewed on 01 November 2014 and beyond.

Take this information with a grain of salt, but if I interviewed on or after the 1st of November, I'd expect a deferred email when they do the next round of acceptances, since I believe that email might be a generic one like the "under review" email. That's my own way to mentally prepare so I don't freak out lol.

I'm feeling the deferment doldrums too...Next update probably in January?

Interviewed 11/1 and received the "not in the round of acceptances sent out" email today.

I interviewed the first week of September.... got another deferred decision email today.... this is getting rough

Interviewed 11/1. Deferred today. Do they make most of their acceptances in March??

Same here. This is the third one for us. It's incredibly frustrating!

Deferral round 2 for me! Gotta love the "Acceptance update" subject line...Gets me every time

Several people have said current students told them much of the class comes from later in the cycle. Many people are deferred several times and eventually accepted. That's all we know.

I'm definitely feeling the first round disappointment but certainly appreciate from current students hearing the same - a lot of the class traditionally comes later due to withdrawals etc. It's in my nature to stay optimistic though so I am cheering for us all next time .... And for those who may have been accepted but maybe aren't posting - seriously.... Congratulations!!

UofA Tucson stated in one of their documents (it's on one of the prior pages in this forum somewhere) that they have a hard time retaining their most highly desired candidates anyways (esp those they don't give $$ to), and those are the individuals probably getting the bulk of the acceptance offers right now. Gotta just stay positive until late spring with the inevitable waitlist movement and app withdrawals .

Did anybody receive an acceptance who interviewed on November 1st?

If not, there is a chance our apps haven't even been looked at yet. As of last week I heard they haven't even got to our group's apps....

Who knows though.....

Yup - sorry

I hope you are right!!!! However, I have heard (from current MS 1 and 2) that they offer a bulk of their acceptances in the first few months (leading up to March) and they only accept like 20 off of their waitlist. Trying to stay positive though.
Deferral email for me as well this round🙁

This is probably too much to ask, but do you know approximately how many have declined their offers so far?

Yeah, I wasn't implying that most of the class comes off the waitlist, just that many people are accepted after several deferrals.

Ugh! I interviewed 11/15, seems like the cutoff for this round was 11/1. Just my luck! 🙁

No idea, I asked the same thing and there was no answer.

As for the waitlist acceptances, a med student at UA told me they acceptance like 60% of their class off the waitlist. To me, this makes no sense...

In the end no one but the admissions committee knows and our information and ideas are just neurotic deductions lol.

It used to be the case where a lot of UA-TUCSON 's class came off of the waitlist. However, over the past few cycles, Tucson has been over accepting students and then going to the waitlist. So for instance, last year they accepted approximately 180 and then only took another 20 off the waitlist. Don't want you to think that I'm a Debbie Downer. I'm just trying to share what I've heard🙂

So you're saying there's a chance?

Hahaha..... What will be will be right? We're getting a little involved in the unknowns (totally understandable as I'm there myself), so we should try (though I don't quite know how myself) to relax (somehow) ...

Very well said 🙂 Yes, there is most definitely a chance!!!!!!!🙂

Do we know--based on previous years--if they will do another committee meeting before the holidays? Or will I be waiting until January?
Probably not until January because they have winter closure starting next week.

I have no idea - I would tend to agree. I had a quick look at last year's thread and it appears only one went out in December. However, I feel that they may be a little behind as it looks like they combined at least 3 interview days into the last round. Maybe they will want to start the new year off fresh?

I looked back and got two in December last year 12/3 and 12/11

No worries. I think everyone got all of the same updates on the same days, but that's based on having a friend going through it last year along with me, so they may communicate to people differently on different days or whatever...
