2014-2015 University of Arizona Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Not my day today again - not accepted yet email... Congrats if you get accepted today. I will have to wait for another consideration round. Le sigh.

Anyone who interviewed 11/15 hear back yet?

Congratulations! If you don't mind me asking, when did you interview?

Accepted today. Bitter sweet: WL last year; this year I have offers from some top programs elsewhere, but this is my state school. We'll see.

Congratulations! If you don't mind me asking, when did you interview?

Any OOS acceptances? I heard from someone that UofA doesn't accept OOS until the end when they've processed all the IS, not sure where they got this info. Anyone know if there is any validity to this?

Edit: Btw got my 3rd or 4th "Acceptance Update" this morning.

@Pedsmdplease was accepted as an OOS student. I have met others as well.

November 1st.

I don't think this is the case. UofA has a very objective admissions process where they create a gestalt score based on various attributes (check out last year's application thread for conversation on the topic), and highest scores get in. Similarly, this is why it takes so long to establish the wait list: it takes time to determine a mean for the cohort.

Anyone know if they are going to meet again before the New Year?

II Today! Happy and a little surprised honestly. I was born in AZ, lived there for several years, and my family still has a house in Tucson, though, so I think that helped. There was only one date left.... Would be so happy and honored to matriculate to UA!! Anyone have any idea what it means to get such a late II as an OOS ?

It means they want your $$ 😀

For most in this thread, you should be at least relatively pleased as you've received IIs. Here's what U of A sent me on 12-12:

"
We welcome your continued interest in The University of Arizona College of Medicine-Tucson. Your application has gone through the primary screening phase for a possible interview invite. We are unable to extend an interview invitation to you at this time but have determined that you are a competitive candidate to continue to be considered.

If there are changes to your status, we will communicate with you via email. Our interview season runs from September to February. You may be invited for an interview at any point during this time frame. Final notification of your interview status will be sent no later than February 20, 2015."

It sort of feels like a long breakup or like they might decide to get back together if their hot new thing doesn't pan out.

I'm far from bitter. But, obviously, it would be nicer to have been interviewed and then put on hold.

Good luck all!

Stay positive. I got one of those last year and subsequently got an II.

I got the same email in the middle of November. I called to follow up and they assured me that I shouldn't be worried. So there's still hope!

Many of us got the pre-II hold! Don't worry, it'll work out. Just be patient.

It's very fitting that "hope" is a part of your name. Thanks for the support! Thanks also to jswierski and f4reignbeauty. It's nice to know that I'm not alone.

You're absolutely welcome! Good luck my friend!

I got that pre-interview hold email as well (mid-November, it I remember correctly). I wish we had some data on how many people they plan to invite from that pool... I'm not very hopeful.

That's exactly how I felt when I got the pre-II hold. Initially, I thought it was an "unofficial" rejection. I was put on hold early- October, and was invited for an interview in late November. When I got the invite, I literally screamed with joy! I think it felt better knowing that they pulled me off of the hold list. Honestly.

Does anyone know if UA is receptive to pre-interview updates? If so, which e-mail address should they be sent to?

Thanks!

I'm not really sure but I do know that admissions will meet once during the break and then again in january.
Oh man, this might make for a really good or really bad Christmas/holiday break

Seriously. I need to say a little prayer for my F5 key. It's been abused so much lately.

Received my 5th "you have not been selected at this time" email this morning. Yowza.
