Just for all those on pre-interview hold:

I was put on hold 8/12, received an interview invite 10/17, and was accepted today. I thought I had 0 shot at being given an interview after the hold email. Then I thought I had 0 chance of being accepted because I had initially been put on hold. And now I'm going to be a wildcat!! IT CAN HAPPEN. 😀

Hi everyone! I interviewed on 10/18, but did not receive any email regarding my status yesterday, like everyone else here. I checked my spam mail and there was nothing in there either. I'm planning on calling Admissions on Monday, but I was wondering if any of you have had trouble with receiving email from UA-Tuscon in the past?!?! Hope everyone is having a nice weekend.

The only email I did NOT receive from them was the initial email for the interview invite. I did receive both of my deferrals and then acceptance in my email Inbox folder. If you did not get anything then maybe a call is in order but I really don't know.

So did you receive an interview invite at a later time?! How did you know that you were invited for an interview? Through the portal? I hope they are not closed for the holidays?!

Congrats to all accepted! For those still waiting, good luck and I hope good news comes your way soon! For those who have been accepted, join the unofficial class facebook group by clicking here and request a join.

I was uber neurotic and regularly checked the portal and the email was in there under the communications tab. I just never received the email.... Not sure why but it was the only one I missed getting in my personal email. I'm really glad that I was that neurotic though haha. I saw the invite the morning after I had received it so I did not lose out in any sense by not getting it via my personal email. However, it did dramatically increase my paranoia/neuroticism/constantly checking email lol

This is more for current students/people in the know:

How will the Banner Hospital system taking over UAMC affect us as medical students in the short & long term?

I'm right in the middle of the merger on the UAHN side...I don't think it will affect the College in the near term. I also asked that very same question of the Dean during the closing on applicant visit day and he said he didn't expect any immediate changes save for more funding. Banner has committed a chunk of funding to the College for desperately-needed improvements, but who knows how soon any of that will be realized.

Same here I have been lurking on this thread finally decided to join. I am interviewing here on 1/24/15 and I was just wondering what people on this thread did to prepare for the interview. I know we shouldn't have rehearsed answers but I am just not sure how to prepare for this interview. Any advice would be helpful and good luck to all of you that have interviewed and are waiting to hear back.

There is truly no way to prepare in my opinion. I would say go in relaxed, confident, genuine, and be ready to justify your responses.

I'm not sure if this has been asked previously in the thread, but Arizona does not accept update letters correct?

Does anyone know how soon after that "review" email a response is given?

I may be corrected but I do not think they sent out any of those "review letters" last year...

Chalk it up to another one of those quirky medical admissions process mysteries.

I believe that all of us that interviewed on the first interview day (September 6th) never received one, but most people in interview dates after that have.

Ah, could be. Mystery solved. 😉

It seems people are asking about timelines lately. Here is mine start to finish. I interviewed on 10/18, it took nearly a month to go "under review", and another month to get accepted. Hope this helps some of you. Good Luck!

Do they accept fall grades? I sent an email yesterday with my fall grades and a brief update on my research...
Did you get a response? I am also wondering if I should update them with my fall grades.

I also emailed them with my unofficial transcript. Didn't get a response but who knows, it doesn't hurt to email...

Hey guys 🙂

UA Tucson MS1 here. I remember being in your (very nervous) shoes a year ago so I though I would come by to give you my words of encouragement.

First of all, DO NOT STRESS if it takes a few rounds to get accepted...a lot of us had a few hold emails before we got in. And we have people in our class that got in the week before class started 🙂

Second, DO NOT compare yourself to other applicants and make yourself feel like you didn't do enough/should have done x,y,z better. I did that to myself and it is depressing. I look around at my class now and wonder how the heck I wound up in a group of such smart people with so many awesome experiences; but we all do that. We all have our thing that makes us unique and it's not worth the time to compare yourself to others or worry you don't measure up.

Third, if you don't get in this cycle, so be it. It took me 2 cycles; it took one of my smartest classmates 4. A lot of us were re-applicants...and we rock (I think so anyways). So if you have to apply again, don't beat yourself up. And spend your time getting clinical experience! Almost everyone in my class has good clinical experience...if that is any indicator to what the school values...

Fourth and most importantly....enjoy your life right now. Whether you get your acceptance tomorrow or in a year from now, THIS is the time of your life to enjoy your free time and get really cool non-medical or semi-medical life experiences. You won't have time after this, so live it up.

My school is awesome, they don't just teach you medicine, they teach you HOW TO BE A DOCTOR...which is actually really important and super undervalued your first two years. So, I hope you do get accepted, and maybe next year I can be your "big". (we have a big/little program 😉)

If you have any SPECIFIC questions feel free to ask me and if I am not cramming musculature disorders in my head I will reply.

-Janel, UA-Tucson Class of 2018

PS...since I know it is so hard to take my advice from the second point, my MCAT score was 26. And I'm doing just fine.... 😉

@jcdesalv your optimism is good, but my cynicism is better!

Really though, it's easy for us pre-meddies to get wrapped up in waitlist-anxiety and start doubting ourselves when people post on here saying "41 MCAT / 3.9 GPA." Your words are kind and remind me not to give up on my dreams.

Waitlisted. I wish everyone else in my position (hell, everyone in general too) good luck!!!

If you don't mind me asking, were you waitlisted pre or post Interview?

This place has been really quiet. Does anyone know when they're going to announce acceptances next? Are they even back in school yet or still on winter break?

I just received an email from them regarding updates post-acceptance, so it seems they are active right now. Good luck 🙂
