2014-2015 University of Arizona - Phoenix Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
We did indeed have a crazy day this Monday, my entire school shut down! I just got my primary submitted, so I am super excited!

Does anyone know what counts as a "writing intensive course" for the purposes of the secondary app? I took classes in ethics and philosophy which were solely based on writing essays, but were not stricktly speaking english classes. I would rather use these than the typical ENG 101 and 102, but I don't want to shoot myself in the foot here. Thanks!

We expect EN 101 and 102. It's a straight-forward course requirement.

Does anybody know when the Monday interviews were rescheduled to? Will next Monday the 15's interviews include some or all students originally scheduled for the 8?

Do you know if interviews are every Monday? How are they scheduling them, out of curiosity? I'm one of many still waiting and hoping.

When I was making my selection there were only 2 interview dates available, 9/8 and 9/15. This was weeks ago, however.

Did anyone else have a difficult time choosing a lunch option? So many of the options sounded delicious! 😛

Just wondering, is there anyone out there who applied in July and is still waiting for a response?

Yeah, still waiting. Still under review. Hopefully we will hear good news soon =)

the website says that it requires at least three letters of rec, but can we send more / are we encouraged to send more?

At least 3. And yea, you can send more. The MSAR states the maximum is 6.
Not sure if it's encouraged to send more, but if you know you're getting good letters beyond the required 3, I wouldn't see why not.

Hi Dr. Cunningham,

What kind of a picture would you recommend for the secondary? Would you recommend a picture taken at a professional studio or would it be appropriate to take a picture from our phones?

Thanks!!!!

Regardless of how you take the photo (iPhone, passport office), it should be professional. You can do this without spending money at a professional studio with some effort.

Dr. Cunningham,

Can you give us a hint as to when the next round of interview invites may come? I know there were difficulties with the recent flash flood but I was just wondering.

Thank you!

Interview invites are sent as decisions come in from the committee, approximately every two weeks. If a committee member submits before the deadline, invites are sent live-time rather than wait.

Oh ok. As applications come in and people are not immediately given interviews, how often do you look back at a particular application before a person receives a rejection notice?

Thank you again

Does anyone have access to the pdf's that are available for interviews? I can't load the Parking information one. Thank you!

I actually just went to their website and found this, which helped: http://phoenixmed.arizona.edu/sites/default/files/images/UACOMP Parking Map 2014.jpg

I'm from Phoenix, but I don't head over to Downtown all that much!

Awesome!

The parking is different from last year. I think that the best school lot is 10002 which is between van burn and roosevelt across the street from the school. Its 8 bucks there and parking can be limited.

I parked at the arizona center lot when I interviewed. Its 12 bucks but there's a bunch more parking.

Dr. Cunningham,

Can we send in post-interview updates to be added to our file?

Thank you!

It's been a couple weeks since the last batch of interviews went out (at least on here). This may mean we should be expecting some updates soon. Can't wait!!! :nailbiting:

Dr. Cunningham,

I was told by my professor that I would be screened out by UoA COM because my Science GPA is 3.58 and my is MCAT 26. Will someone from the admission department review my entire application at some point or will a computer system filter me out without consult?

Thank you,

Brian Singer

Dear Dr. Cunningham,

Can the humanities requirement (i.e. ethics) be fulfilled by a pass on a P/F graded class?

Thank you! 🙂

Unfortunately, the information provided to you is incorrect.

Auto-screening does not occur, meaning EVERY file is reviewed by our office. The only HARD cutis published on our website and includes a minimum MCAT of 22 and a min 3.0 GPA (within last 60 credit hours and/or grad work).

Ouch rejected today 🙁
Dr. Cunningham, the rejection email mentioned applying to the Pathway Scholars program. If accepted to this program is there a better chance to be accepted for 2016?
Thank you!

Dr. Cunningham, if I was complete at the beginning of July and still haven't heard anything, should I assume I am on some sort of pre-interview hold?

Each committee member can retain previously reviewed students for continued review. So, yes, it is likely you are in that situation.

Depends on the threshold used to determine a "pass." Some schools use 60%, which is a D and this does not meet our requirement. Others use 70%. So, find out from your registrar or professor and include this information when you submit the secondary.
