Finally accepted, central Arkansas. Congrats to all. And to those who didn't make it, keep trying! This was my 4th year applying.

On a side note (early I know), it seems like tablets are not really recommended. To those already at UAMS, what did you use and do you recommend a tablet (with a keyboard) or laptop? Thanks!

Has anyone OOS received a packet (that's not close to Arkansas)? I'm in Nashville but can't check my mail until tonight.

I'm from Jonesboro and just got my acceptance letter. Very excited after being wait listed last year.

@klf2019 I was IT for a while and I would suggest against any tablet other than a Windows based one. You'd hate to have issues opening up any files because Android and iOS can be unreliable on that front.

You must get a laptop. Not a tablet with a keyboard - a laptop. Your packet should have a list of requirements for computer specifications. If you have a smart phone, I don't think a tablet will be super beneficial for years 1 and 2 when you will always have access to your computer. They're nice if you use digital textbooks, but "required" textbooks aren't really required (except for Anatomy).

That being said, tablets are pretty sweet. Though I'm getting by just fine without one, I will probably get one for 3rd and 4th year.

Congrats on all your acceptances!

Thanks Bamfu. Also, white coats. I'm a female, and we have a choice between sizes 6-20 and 40-44. 40-44 is length yeah? Seems really long. Is there a place we can try the same brand on or anything?

Sorry to hear that, DoNoHarm. Is this your first year applying? I applied last year and didn't get in. Don't give up! And maybe you'll hear back from another school. Optimism!!!

I have no idea about trying on the coats. I just ordered what I thought fit and went with it. If someone else doesn't chime in soonish, you might try emailing Mrs. Dupuy to see if she can point you in the right direction.

Again, congrats to everyone! I hope you're enjoying your snow days.

Is there a Facebook group or anything like that for our class made yet??

I was wondering the same thing, but there doesn't seem to be just yet. I guess if no one else does, I'll make one...so someone should get on that soon lol

The current M1s will be making that group with Mrs. Dupuy. They try to invite people using the acceptance list, but you could probably search for UAMS COM of 2019 or something every now and then. It'll be a closed group (invite only, though you can request an invite). Also, she will probably wait until she gets most of her acceptance letters back from you guys.

But yeah, if you're not on facebook, I suggest you start using it. The class page is really helpful at the beginning (remembering to do things) and during the school year for sharing resources and stuff.

Thanks Bamfu! I, for some odd reason, thought accepted students made those groups. Good to know! I'll just patiently wait, then. 🙂

Nah they like to have the current M1s do it to answer questions. Plus, since it is a closed group, they like a verification process (just making sure your name matches one on the list). She will send out an email about it at some point for sure.

Yes. The webmaster in our class will make the group once they get the acceptance list from Ms. Dupuy. The current M1 class will be added to the group to answer any questions you guys have!

I just checked my white coat and the brand is Landau. Don't know how much that helps. It only has a size, no length. I am size 0-2, 5'4" and got a size 8 because of the simple fact that you will always be wearing clothes under your white coat so it is better to go up a size. It is much easier to take a too big coat in, but you cannot add to a too small coat.

Finally, enjoy your last free summer. I know you are so excited, but cherish all this time with family and friends because once school starts, it is a marathon, not a sprint!!

Hello everyone!

I just received my acceptance yesterday!!! :soexcited: OOS here from Florida. My very first post in SDN. I am so excited to be a part of the UAMS family and am really looking forward to meeting all of you very soon. Best of luck to everyone still waiting!

Oh awesome! Thanks for the info!

What happens next after you accept your position in the class? And congratulations to all that got accepted.

I received my acceptance this past Saturday! I've been working too much to get on here and post. I'm OOS, but only by about 5 miles (Texarkana). I'm an Arkansas boy at heart, and this was where my wife and I wanted to be. Still overwhelmed every time I think about it.

Waitlisted 🙁.
Does anyone have information regarding waitlist movement from previous years?

Last year there were 14 IS people that deferred. So at least 14 waitlist ppl got spots. This doesn't include people who turned down spots so possibly about 20 people from waitlist got it? That's my best estimate

Thanks for the info! 20 makes me feel a little better about my chances.

So, is it August yet?

Has anyone started looking at apartments or rental homes? Do current students have any recommendations on where to look or places to avoid? The apartments on the river by the big dam bridge caught my eye since it's right on the bike/running path and still only 2 miles from campus.

I'm also going to be looking to get a house near a good elementary school if anyone recommends a particular area.

I've started looking...only toured one apartment complex. I'll be there next Tuesday to do more tours and hopefully make a final decision soon. So excited!

What's the name of the one to which you're referring?

I saw several apartments down by the river. The names I can remember off the top of my head are Vantage point, River park, and Brightwaters. There are at least 2 more that I can't remember. They also advertised as being pet friendly.
