2014-2015 University of California - Davis Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Because not everyone who interviews (and gets accepted) will end up choosing Davis. Although for our year, it seems like the yield for acceptances was pretty high...

Yup, I'm familiar with the process. I think that other schools simply use the wait/deferred-list in order to offer seats in the entering class when others decline the school's offer.

My main point was that by letting me know that I'm on a wait-list to interview, it's hard for me to believe that if I am invited to interview, my chances to be accepted are just as good as of those who received a straight interview invitation. This is only an assumption I made, nothing more.

Also, there's always this: "Overall, UCD made me feel like they really wanted me there, while UCLA was more like "Well, you can come here if you want to!". I agree that getting the feeling that a particular school wants you, and not just settles on you, is important. So I don't quite understand what UCD hopes to achieve by letting us know we're on hold...they could just invite us later on if it becomes relevant.

CONGRATS! May I ask if you were on the interview waitlist?

No, I was never put on the interview waitlist. To be quite honest, I figured that they were going to send me a rejection notice soon, since I hadn't heard anything. I am a re-applicant, and last year in January they seemed to reject what felt like a majority of applications, waitlist some for II, and sent out the last batch of straight out II. I am not sure, but I imagine most people will be hearing back soon. I know it may only be a small chance of an acceptance, but nothing would make me happier than going to school at UCD.

I like that our school does this, I think it's their way of saying "hang in there we just don't have enough spots right now to give an interview to all of you awesome applicants" That's my positive take on it ; )

Does anybody know if UCD has a student host program for people interviewing? If so, how do you sign up for it?

Thanks I'm really excited! Mine is 3/20. When did you receive your II? Good luck!

I got it Wednesday morning, and I rushed online to see the dates available. I am just curious to see if these are spots that people are withdrawing from or if there are a few still available. Good luck to you too! I am going to give it my best, because this is where I truly want to go! Let's hope for some late interview luck for the both of us!

Dont forget to put in a good word for all others still waiting to hear back...Counting on you.
Best of luck with the interview ...both of you.

Had a great time interviewing here on 1/23. Facilities, students, and staff were all top-notch. Interview was pretty intense -- but in a good way! Now only thing I can do is to hope...

Does anyone know how much movement there is on the waitlist? I'm waitlisted (following a December interview) and I want to know what my chances are of getting into UCD (read: my top choice school)! Is there hope, or am I doomed?

I'm waitlisted post interview as well (11/21 interview). If I'm remembering the source correctly, they told us at the end of the day that being on the Davis waitlist gives you a 50/50 shot of eventual acceptance. Good luck!

While I can't say for sure what your chances may be on the waitlist, I can say that a good chunk of our class did come from the waitlist. Its best to stay hopeful.

I'm supposing that everyone who interviewed got the financial aid email, right? (trying to not get false hopes up)

I have been complete since early sept (when i completed the secondary and LOR) and have heard nothing back, at this point I would like to update them with my grades from last semester, but would it even be worth it at this point? And are they receptive to pre interview updates?? Thank you for any help!!

I am pretty sure they don't take updates at all. Sorry. I think someone mentioned that they are planning to update everyone on their status soon though.

What exactly does the email say?
It is a rather lengthy email containing information on FAFSA, scholarships, and credit card debt. It also has a section for requirements that is explicitly designated for "admitted applicants only." So, I am assuming it's sent to everyone who interviewed.

Yup I got that email shortly after I interviewed too. I was waitlisted 🙁

Maybe it just means they are finished reviewing your app. You are probably waitlisted or accepted ?

Do they waitlist everyone that interviews? Or do they actually send rejections out post-interview

It looks like they do reject some people outright post-interview- but most people seem to be waitlisted.

Dr. Sousa said they will accept waitlist or reject people after the interviews.

Called the office recently. Told them I was complete since mid-July, and they said I'll hear back by the end of the month.

so... one more day til the end of the month... does that mean those of us waiting without any interview hold will hear by tomorrow?

This makes me curious. How available are research opportunities at UCD?

There are ample research opportunities here at Davis. Yeah, Davis doesn't have the research rep that SF/LA and SD have, but that doesn't mean that we can't get any research done. Nearly half of the class before us were involved in some sort of research opportunity, not to mention there is the option of going MD/PhD after second year, doing a research year, research rotation in 4th year, etc. I'll be doing a research project with a leader in the field ( instead of doing a project at one of the other UCs which is also a possibility). I'm pretty sure a good group of my class will be involved in some sort of research project this summer. If you're interested in research, UC Davis will not hold you back.

Interview invites will be out by end of week per admissions office...

Is it usually a bad sign if you don't hear back within 2 weeks of an interview? Just wondering since we told it'd be within 2 weeks.

just rejected via email, IS, LizzyM 68 complete back in July

definitely seems as if rejections and IIs will be rolling out soon. good luck to all

Pre-II rejection, complete 7-5. Good fit, in-state. No further comments.
