Sooooo how about that pre-interview dinner with a med student? Kind of weird...

Hahaha, personally I'm looking forward to it! I think it's a nice gesture and a good way to get an idea of UCI's student body. Wish more places did this.

And free pizza? FREE PIZZA? Who am I to say no to free cheesy, oily goodness?

Lol me either I suppose. And congrats on your cycle btw, it looks like it's going great!

Yup, I'm still in broke student mode where I perk up at the mention of any sort of free food.
Thank you! You're doing pretty swell yourself! Hope you have an excellent time in Irvine and best wishes for all your upcoming interviews. 😀

II!! Complete 7/18. LizzyM~75. And I had just gone through that whole "accidental rejection" thing from Riverside. Coincidence? I think not
lol I got the same accidental rejection from Riverside. I want to applaud everyone so far for their interviews and immaculate numbers, truly impressive. I'll tip my cap as you all are incredibly academically qualified, and well deserving of these precious interview slots. I'll continue to hope for a long-shot interview at a Cali MD program!

Sympathy goes out to all of those extremely qualified applicants who have been rejected from here so soon; this process isn't always fair, but I'm sure with numbers as I've seen for the rejected, positive things are surely headed your way!!

Hey everyone, current student here. Just popped in to say good luck to all of you and to answer any questions you may have. It's been a few years since I went through the application cycle, but as far as I can remember, it's thoroughly unpredictable. So just hang in there!

As far as the pre-interview dinner goes, it's a super casual way for you all to meet a few current students and your fellow applicants the day before your interview. Someone in this thread was right in saying that there will be anywhere from 30-40 of you on any given interview day, so it's always nice to make friends the night before. Just relax at the dinner and be yourself, nobody will be judging you then haha

Feel free to ask me questions here or via PM. Good luck to all of you!

How quickly is the secondary payment supposed to update on the status page? I received my email confirmation last week but my status is still blank for it.. Not sure if something may have gone wrong with the system

I just got a secondary today. My app was verified a week ago. I noted my future MCAT date (August 7th) on the primary, but surprisingly, UCI still sent me a secondary. I can't believe it!

does UCI ever send out emails for IIs? or is it only through through webpage?

Has anyone who was complete in early august heard back? II or rejection?

Does Irvine's status change from "under review" to "hold" at all? I've been under review for a very, very long time haha

It's mid August... If you think you have been "under review for a very very long time" you have a terribly rough road ahead of you my friend! I was complete for UCLA in August last year and didn't interview there till March!
Oh I totally get that, I was just wondering if there was a status change so I would know if I was on hold versus still being reviewed

Got some interview reminders this afternoon; I've been gradually making the mental shift from nervous to excited. (And also crossing my fingers we get to try out Google Glass... a girl can dream, right?).

Good luck to all those waiting! :turtle:

Google Glass haha 🙂

Hi guys, does UCI prescreen applicants before sending secondaries or do all applicants get secondaries? And if they prescreen what is it based on? UCI is a reach school for me and I just got a secondary

hey guys... how strict do you think they are on the 30-day deadline? I just realized my deadline is two weeks ago... 🙁

edit: i submitted it just now and the site let me submit it but i guess my chances are shot now... ugh and the questions weren't even tough.

Oops... missed the 30 day response time. Does this mean I shouldn't submit.

II yesterday
IS LizzyM: 70 Complete: 7/23
Does anyone know what kind of interview UCI runs(MMI vs Traditional)? I've looked online but their website is pretty vague

Two traditional interviews (<1hr apiece). The first one is typically with an MS2 (super causal, you'll essentially have lunch together) and the second one is with a faculty member.

A new aspect to this year's schedule: in-between the two traditional interviews, there will be an 8-minute "structured interview." It's essentially a single MMI station. I can't divulge specifics, but my fellow interviewees and I seemed to enjoy the structured interview a lot! It wasn't stressful and – dare I say it – really fun. 🙂

You're going to love your interview day! The admissions staff and faculty were so welcoming! Everyone went to great lengths to put us at ease.

I'm in state, LizzyM 70-ish, but a social science major, and haven't yet taken the advanced bio classes Irvine wants in addition to the normal reqs at other schools. I have time to take the classes in the spring, but do you think I'm at a big disadvantage because I haven't taken them yet?

Thank you for writing such an informative piece covering your interview experience on MDapps! It is very insightful!

Edit: Clarity

No problem! I found other peoples' school impressions to be really helpful (pyrrion89's are phenomenal) because they were sort of like a virtual walk-through of the interview day. Keep in mind that the pros/cons are my opinion only. It was funny to see on UCI's MS2 panel how a certain student could rave about one aspect of the school and another student completely disagree. A lot of this boils down to personal preference. (I think everyone can agree, however, that living 5 min from the beach and having arguably the best ultrasound program nationwide is a monumental plus!).

Also, if I don't write down my thoughts immediately following the interview I forget everything. 😉

Rejected today via status change. IS, LizzyM 70+, complete mid-July. Not much research experience, which I think might have been an issue. Congrats to those with IIs! For those of you with rejections, I have interviews at other UCs so far so don't give up hope about getting to stay in CA for med school just because you got rejected from one UC 🙂

has anyone received a presecondary rejection?

I was complete two weeks ago...I assume this school will be a rejection since I don't have that much research experience, but eagerly waiting for an update.

Do any med students know when the interview day, including the PRIME part, gets over? I'm trying to figure out if I should fly home right after the interview or wait until the next morning.

Hi guys! Does anyone know if UCI accepts pre-II updates? I can't seem to find any information on their website

Hi guys, does UCI prescreen applicants before sending secondaries or do all applicants get secondaries? And if they prescreen what is it based on? UCI is a reach school for me and I just got a secondary

Here are the stats from 2012-2013. Hope that helps. They have 5773 applicants and they give out secondaries to 3185 applicants.

All UC's pre-screen and I think they're really thorough in comparison to the other schools that screen the primary application.
