This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
hoping to stay in CA and this is one of my best chances. fingers=crossed.

OOS applicant with high hopes. Good luck to everyone applying here!!

Do you think there will be any OOS love here or just your standard Cali school aka no OOS love and extremely tough IS love

To be honest I had the same thought you did, but it wont hurt to give it a try. I couldn't find many states on OOS vs IS, but as you said it is a Cali school.

Hi all, IS Orange County resident (most of my family is in IE) hoping for some good luck at UCR! Best of luck all.

Applying here, also hoping to stay in California if possible.

From my understanding that Riverside gives much more emphasis to IS students then other UCs specifically IS from the inland empire area.

It doesn't hurt to apply. There are quiet a few guys/gals who go here that are not from the Inland Empire. Also, its not 24 guaranteed spots for UCR students, its "up to" 24. The first class had less than 24 from UCR.

Does anyone know how many students they are accepting this year? How many did they accept that are starting 2014?

IS, no secondary yet. Anyone know what the stats of interviewed/accepted applicants were last year? I'm having trouble finding info on Riverside.

I think MSAR said the mcat 10th to 90th percentile was like 26-33 so anywhere in there?

I heard they wanted to expand the entering class from 50 to 100, but I'm not sure when that will happen.

hopefully it did.

somebody posted this in the 2013-2014 thread. Under FAQ on their website, they still say 50

Tha dean of UCR med school is such great man and he mentioned that they will have 50 spots for class of 2018 but they increase to 100 for class of 2019! i met him in an info session! i would love to go to this school, but i have low stats, 28/3.7 sGPA/3.8 cGPA

Unfortunately I will not be divulging my stats, however, I am classified as IS but go to school OOS if this helps.

Yep I was verified 6/12, so my app transmitted the first day (or so I assume)

Same day I was verified... Officially nervous!

Oh no don't be at all! If you'll look at last year's thread, it appears that the get sent out in waves. I also imagine that they have received a lot of applications, so it's possible you haven't been even reviewed yet! If it gives you some comfort, my last name is in the beginning of the alphabet, so you never know, maybe they review alphabetically... No news is good news, as the general consensus around here is 🙂

Haha thanks, best of luck!

I got a very condescending email last night saying that UCR would not process my application further and that they "hope you will understand that this decision is not a judgment about your qualifications for medical school, but is instead a reflection of the extremely competitive applicant pool this year." (Yes, I'm out of state, but I went to undergrad in California.)

I would have been very upset about this, but instead I just laughed because I received an interview invite to University of Michigan yesterday morning. Not to mention that I've received multiple secondaries from other UCs.

At least I don't have to worry about their secondary or their application fee. Good luck to everyone else that's still in the game! Hang tight if you got the same email I did. 🙂

Were you OOS? Stats?

Woah, my sympathies 🙁 Congrats with that U of M invite! There's obviously no deficiencies in your app!

Just anecdotal evidence, but I was advised not to apply to UCR (even as IS) since I have no ties to the Inland Empire or strong involvement with underserved populations. My advisor put it very bluntly and said that even if my stats were a flawless 4.0/45, my EC list would not merit an interview. Since UCR is a mission based school, "fit" appears to be of paramount importance.

I hope I get a chance to explain my ties in a secondary, since AMCAS is sent to all schools it was too awkward to fit/stress this in the primary.

+1

I'm not from the IE, but I have alot of family that live there, and would honestly be ok moving there.

We will see about this. Let me be the test subject. LizzyM > 76, and I'm from Compton, which better be classified as underserved, lol.

sorry about your situation and the dude with the 40 mcat, but the emphasis of other characteristics aside from stats makes me really happy in all honesty. it shows that gpa and mcat arent the end-all for some schools. i really like that some school can actual represent recruiting based off of its mission, ecs, and holistic reviews and back it up in practice.

I'm the "dude" with the 40 MCAT. (Actually, I'm a girl.) I don't blame Riverside for not giving me a secondary. It's hard for me to imagine a scenario in which I would have matriculated there. Even if it had been the only UC I got into, I probably would have just gone somewhere in my own state. I just think it's funny that they say my rejection was because of the extremely competitive applicant pool.

Anyway, for what it's worth, I totally agree with you. Riverside's mission is to recruit primary care physicians and other needed specialists who will serve patients in that area. I am interested in primary care and psychiatry, but I certainly don't fit the bill for wanting to practice in inland SoCal. Honestly, I respect them for not sending me a secondary just to take my money. I wish more schools did this instead of leading people on and ripping them off.

I am not being sarcastic at all when I say good luck to all of you, whether or not you got a secondary here.

No secondary yet. Can someone post the secondary essay questions?
