2014-2015 University of California - Riverside Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Thanks!

Look forward to hearing something in December/Jan hopefully

Do you know if the class size is still 50 for next year?

It is only 50 for 2015. However, in their grant they wrote about expanding the class size for the 2016 entering students. Whether or not it will for sure happen, I believe has not been disclosed yet.

Hey everyone,
I go to UCR and from what I have heard interview invites should be around October to November with UCR alumni and students receiving II's a little later than others.

Also, the dean of the SOM wants to increase the number of students from or living in the IE to around 60% of the class if not more. It has been said in earlier years threads but I will say it again, UCR is looking to make an impact in 5 specific fields: Peds, General Surgery, Psych, family medicine, & OB/Gyn. The school is hoping to award 5 students entering in 2015 major scholarships if they specify prior to entry they would be interested in one of the 5 areas they emphasis. However, the welcome applicants interested in ALL fields and areas (you just are not eligible for the scholarship).

Hope the info helps.

Thank you for the info. sir!... wait, UCR alumni receive IIs LATER? awww :[

I call B.S...funny how this person has 2 posts, with one being on the DAT discussion board. And no one else has reported getting an II today. Someone wrote that II's come in october...

Good call.

3.57 GPA / 38 MCAT, strong ties to the Inland Empire and complete on 7/25. I'm a non UCR graduate, but I did graduate from a UC.

Hi there, congrats once again!!! Was your secondary complete on 7/25 or was your AMCAS complete on 7/25? Thanks for clarifying, and best of luck to you!

Danggg so it's true! Congrats to both of you! Now I'm super nervous, I'm an alumni and have been banking on this D: Either way, let us know how it goes!

I submitted my secondary to UCR on 7/25. And thanks guys! After applying last cycle and not getting a single interview, it feels good to finally have an interview, and from a UC school at that!

Whoa! You have a 3.57 GPA / 38 MCAT and you didn't get a single interview last year? You're scaring me!

Wow, that's great! Hope your interview goes well. I completed my secondary 8/26, so hopefully I'll hear something within the next few weeks. Good luck! 🙂

Congrats! What day did you pick? I did the 27th, Group A

Interesting stats I found out, for the past 7 years (Haider program) UCR step 1 averages have been higher than UCLA's

Hmm, UCR's school of medicine hasnt been open for that long? O.0, there was the Thomas/Heider program that allowed UCR students to directly transfer to UCLA med school, are you talking about those students?

yep, the Haider program students took their step1 before transferring to UCLA

Rejected today post-secondary. LizzyM > 76. Completed 8.1.2014

Can current students comment on life at UCR? Also, do you know where 3rd/4th year rotations will be?

Although I'm not a UCR med student, I can comment on the general area and the professors of the school, etc. In my experience professors are extremely approachable, they really like it when you go to office hours, talk to them after class, etc. It's a really open environment and I never felt like professors didn't want to be there. The food on campus and around the area is ok, nothing great, but not bad either. On the plus side, you can drive around and get to a lot of places 30-40mins away, UCR is like in the middle of a lot of destinations. It gets HOT during the summer, winter isn't too bad, as its California. Housing and saftey within a 5mile radius of the school is good, although downtown-ish and some surrounding housing places aren't too safe. As long as you don't look down at your phone while walking home alone at 3am, you will be fine. I'll add more if I can think of anything. Oh yea, the school (esp. Medical School) is small, which I liked.

Ya I am born/raised nearby, just don't have much experience with UCR as the school. Just wondering how the pioneer classes are liking it and if they like how things are going. Since its almost a continuation of the old UCR/UCLA program I am not worried at all about the education, etc. Looking forward to the MMI gauntlet in a couple weeks =)

Secondary received yesterday! Did you guys use your essays from the primary activities section for the activities here? I was reading the thread and couldn't seem to find a definite answer. The secondary is pretty redundant to primary for the activities section at least. Thanks for the help!

is it just me, or is answering all the questions on this secondary getting very repetitive. I feel like I do not have new information to share on every single question. I was able to cover ten of them nicely, but the last three started to include things from many of my other ten responses :/

anybody know if UCR is receptive to update letters pre-interview? i have some pretty big updates (publication, and a few others). thanks!

Rejected post sec. Complete ~8/5. IS but not UCR alumnus. I have no ties to IE so that probably had something to do with this.

Did they think it was funny to send two rejection letters ten days apart? 🙁

Is the program still two years at UCR and two years at UCLA for the entering class of 2015?

No the Haider Program was stopped as soon as the medical school accepted its first class 2 years ago. Now the students accepted through UCR complete all 4 years at UCR and graduate with their M.D. from UCR.

Anyone know whether the interview format is traditional or MMI?
