2014-2015 University of Central Florida Application Thread

Hi everyone! I'm an M1 here. I see some of you are becoming concerned (even anxious) about being in the EFI pool for a couple months and how that might impact your chances of receiving an interview invite. For what it's worth, I was EFI in August and interviewed in December. I think I got the call from REL late November. Relax! (at least try to). This is a process that can take a while. Congrats to those that are accepted and I hope you to see you next year. Feel free to send me a message if you have any questions about UCF and I'll try to reply as soon as I can. But don't hesitate one moment to contact the admissions office. They are extremely friendly and receptive.

I received an interview invite this past week for 11/24. I'm an OOS applicant. Can someone who has already interviewed answer a question for me? Did the interviewers have access to your MCAT/grades or was it a "blind" interview?

Just interviewed yesterday, interviewers had a course list but not grades. They also didn't have MCAT scores. Very impressive interview btw.

Could you speak more about the style of interview? Conversational or more questions based?

Predominantly questions based; each interviewer has a list of pre-prepared questions, which I believe are the same for all interviewees. Afterwards, you segue into a shorter, more conversational portion regarding questions the interviewer had formed based off of your app. My interviewers filled out my responses as we went along, so they could input my words verbatim into their post-interview report (so don't be weirded out if they're writing while you speak 😉).

Had a brilliant time here – by far the most hands-on and interactive interview day I have had thus far! Good luck! :luck:

How long between getting AMCAS Verified and Receiving the Secondary from UCF?

Ok then maybe I got Screen out 🙁
Ok not necessarily, I only spoke for myself I'm not sure about everyone else. I was verified mid-july so there were probably less apps at the time. UCF does screen at 3.0 and 24 MCAT but as long as you meet those requirements you should get a secondary at some point. I would call if you don't receive a secondary within 2 weeks though

You should get it within minutes of your AMCAS being verified!

You will not get the secondary until UCF gets your MCAT score, they want to see an MCAT score (assuming it'll be at least a 24) before you get the secondary, so you will get the secondary in December

Oh Well The holidays will be tense this year !

To anyone out there who is nervous or feels like their application is weak, my answer is this: DON'T GIVE UP! The truth is that if your application is weak and you keep working at it - that shows a lot of heart! And that is something that medical schools want to see!

anyone interviewing on friday!?

Hello applicants, M1 here! (feels great to no longer be on here as a pre-med!!!) Just wanted to wish you guys all the best of luck with your applications and interviews. UCF has something great going on here, and if you're from OOS and doubtful about checking out the school I HIGHLY recommend you don't turn down this interview. I've yet to speak to anyone that wasn't blown away on their interview day. I'll try and pop in every once in a while to answer any of your questions. Good luck!

i have a question, the ucf application says that it takes up to 15 business days to identify whether im competitive for an interview. I was wondering if this was accurate or just an arbitrary number. Following along with it, if and when it states that im eligible for interview selection, does this mean i am guaranteed an interview or simply that my chances are not zero?

It depends, it took 14 days for me to get EFI, but now that it is later in the cycle they may have a lot more apps so it may take a bit longer. Also, getting EFI does NOT guarantee an interview, if I am not mistaken, EFI gives you like a 30% chance of getting an interview rather than 5-10%

apparently 3/4 get EFI, so its more like 15-20% chance of interview. An improvement, but not a ton

Where did you hear this? I thought I had read somewhere that it was roughly 1/3 of all who get secondaries.
I thought I read earlier in this thread something about 30-40% who get EFI. You guys may be right, I'm not sure. But REL did put some statistics earlier in this thread also about how many people were giving EFI, II, etc. So best bet is to look back in the thread!

Just looking to clarify from your earlier posts. You said about 1000 EFI so far and 350 not competive as well as 3800 applications. So does this mean so far almost 75 percent of applicants have made the EFI category, or am I over simplifying things (1000/1350) with about 2500 left to review?

This is pretty much on track....we try not to complicate too much here.
Right here

See above post, quotes from bottom of page 6

This is apparently what it was like last year. Now its more like 4000 total apps with currently 75% on pace for EFI. So if total apps = 4000, then 3000 will get EFI, 400 interveiws/3000 EFI = 13.3% chance of interview, I would let it go a bit higher cause I am fudging the numbers some, but EFI does not = 33% chance of interview if 3/4 people get it.

Anyone know if they are still calling people with decisions today?

I was told they are calling my group (the October 20th crowd) next Wednesday, so if you were before us then probably! They would probably email if they were changing it. Good luck hearing back today! I hope you get good news!

Got the call...the WAITLIST call <___< (interviewed early Oct) Very disappointed...I thought we had something special UCF...

@Copernicium

Although your mind will do everything to fight against what I'm about to say, try not to stress. 😛
UCF digs pretty deep into its wait list every year. While I was applying, I perused all of the previous years' threads and I'm relatively sure they got into the middle 2/3 at least. The admissions committee does a lot of waitlisting. I don't think they accept too many right off the bat every round of decisions (can't remember exact numbers). My one friend who is an M3 here now interviewed on the earliest possible date and was wait-listed, but gradually moved up the list until he was accepted in March I think. That seems like a long wait, but just trying to illustrate that you have a solid chance of getting taken off the wait-list since you've interviewed so early! 🙂

Yeah I can second this. I was EFI in August and didn't interview until February and got accepted. I am not really sure how they determine who to call in for interview and when. Maybe it's about diversifying or it's simply that they interview the most competetive first and move forward from there. Either way don't lose hope. UCF has the most transparent application process of any school that I interviewed at and will not hide anything from you.

Is UCF receptive to updates or letters of interest post-interview? I understand that you can upload some documents pre-interview, but does this also apply after the interview or a waitlist decision?

Hi! Would anyone that has gotten an II recently care to share what date range they were given to select their date? Wondering how far through their interview slots they are!

Just wanted to say hi to my interview group from October 20! I hope we get good news today because I really liked those of you I met! Good luck everyone!

Interviewed October 20th. Got waitlisted into the middle tier. I hope I get accepted into this school eventually! I'm really interested in their program.

Congrats to those who were accepted!

I just received another LOR from my graduate program director and submitted it through AMCAS to all of my schools I applied to. I've gone through a few of them and noticed some specifically mention you can add an LOR and submit an update stating that the new LOR is available for them. UCF didn't have mention of an LOR specifically and I have an interview invite already. Does anybody know how I would go about updating that I indeed have a new letter? Or should I even bother?
Guessing this would need to be submitted as an update within the portal.

Actually ALL LOR's need to come via AMCAS or the committee will not see them. I you have an interview that means that you met the minimum. You can add a letter or two in addition to the minimum by going into AMCAS and building a space for the author to instantly add a letter to your file. If you have already done this, then we have access to it. Hope that this helps.

Thank you, REL!

I've submitted it through AMCAS but I wasn't sure if I needed to notify that there is another letter, so it is cleared up for me. Do you know if it is this way with most schools? Thank you so much for the heads up!

I do not know about other med programs, but I would suspect that they too would want something in AMCAS if at all possible. It would also be good if you added an extra letter to your file to send them an email letting the program know of it so that they do not miss it if they have already read your file.
