On interview day, REL said that he and Laurel usually make the calls in the morning, starting around 9:00 or 9:30am, and leave a message asking to call back if you are unable to answer the call. So I think you should hear back before the afternoon, barring any unexpected setbacks. I myself got the call around 10:00AM if i recall correctly.

Hi , does anyone know about the criminal history portion of the secondary ? Does it ask only about convictions or also about any arrests and charges ? Thank you

It only said "do you have any pending criminal charges" because you already shared about past charges/ convictions on the primary....basically they just want to know if that might have changed since you did your primary.
 
Match!!! No way this year could be stronger than last year --- I was wrong!!!! I will post details later today. They include Mass Gen, 3 Beth Israel, Stanford, Hopkins, UPA, 2 Mayo, Chicago, Dallas, 3 in Denver area, and a few in NYC. About 75% left the state for some primo programs!!

I haven't heard anything like that so while possible, don't think so. We don't need to as our grading system is norm referenced and not on a bell curve. I think that there is a post earlier in this thread about that -- maybe 3-4 months ago? We do use elements of P/F and H/P/F in some courses. Of course when you hear that a program has pass/fail, it often means it has pass, fail, as well as something like high pass, or pass with commendation, etc. It really is often an A, B, C, F system with different titles. Few places have a simple pass/fail grading system. About 20% of the med programs in the nation have a simple pass/fail, many others claim pass/fail but have at least 3 or 4 grades involved. So A, B, C, F could be claimed as pass/fail....;>), with similar graduations of pass!
 
REL, when are the March 6th interviewee cohort's decisions going to be announced?

Are calls still going out? And since the "not yet accepted list" will be a waitlist after today, when do you think the students in the top third of the top one half will most likely hear? April 30th or a few days before that date? Judging by how many accepted applicants have already withdrawn their acceptances to go elsewhere, is it now more reasonable to assume that this years waitlist movement will follow in the tracks of last years? Or is it too soon to tell, is there a chance it will not? How many people need to withdraw their acceptances before movement from the waitlist starts? When should the students in the top one half of the top one third hear if they are invited to second look (so that they can start booking hotels). Thank you!

I only know the answer to the very last thing you mentioned. The school is booking our hotel rooms for Second Look for us and paying for them.
 
So is it safe to assume that those in the top half or the top third will not be accepted until early May? or is there ever any movement before then?

I spoke with a member of the scholarship committee. They are working applicants in batches and they evidently have completed about half of the accepted group. They anticipate that they will continue to offer a scholarship/grant to all who are accepted although meeting time for the group is at a premium and it may take some time to get all reviewed and awarded.

@REL: can you answer Blue341's question. I have the same one. Also does UCF allow students to ever defer (e.g. for the Peace Corps, TeachForAmerica, Rhodes fellowship, etc)? If so, assuming their deferral request was approved by the office of admissions, is the deferral binding or non-binding? Thanks so much!

Yes, sorry for not being on target here. So I do expect more movement in April than the past because the deadline has been moved from May 15 to April 30. In the past we were admitting from the wait list right around the May 15 period, as such I suspect this too will move to April 30.

As for deferred admissions due to Peace Corps, etc., most schools make this a binding agreement for next year so you could only reapply to UCF next year if we accept you and you defer. This deferral does not restrict you for additional acceptances this year and schools should not make you withdraw from all other programs this year if they grant you a deferral. This means that you could be deferred at UCF in May, still receive an acceptance this year in June and, if you desire, accept that new program and drop the UCF deferred acceptance.

Regarding Second Look those in the upper 1/2 of the upper 1/3 on the wait list have been given the opportunity to indicate if they would like to attend. We have been able to invite a few for this year.
 
@REL : thanks! One follow up question: does UCF accept updates from waitlisted candidates? For example, if I hypothetically did just get accepted into something like the Peace Corps would UCF want to know about that? Also, updating the committee about an opportunity like this wouldn't lower one's place on the waitlist would it (since waitlists are technically trying to fill this upcoming year's class)?

We will add anything to your file, however the committee will not review anything after that initial review has been completed and your file scored.
 
@REL I am aware that in order to matriculate in Fall we have to adequately complete our coursework. What are the standards/requirements for that? If a student on the WL were to finish with a C in one of their final classes, would that keep them from matriculating? Thanks so much!

Probably not...but if you cashed in the entire semester there would be some question....

Have there been any acceptances yet after the March 24 committee meeting or any movement from the waitlist since then?
 
Has anyone withdrawn their acceptance yet? Trying to gauge that precious waitlist movement...

So remember on interview day when we said that we, like most programs do over-accept? We, like many programs, will now wait for that initial group to attrit down to below our class size of 120 before we restart the admissions offers. To date we have lost about 5-6 applicants, obviously this will gain steam as we reach the April 30 deadline. I would imagine offering admissions again near this deadline as well.

As was noted on interview day, it was our intention to continue the process of providing some form of scholarship/grant to all admitted. I believe that the scholarship committee is working diligently to spend their funds in a way to continue this UCF tradition if at all possible.

I just saw the news that UCF Health's second location, Gateway Lake Nona, is now open in Medical City, and that the Florida Hospital Clinic will be opening in less than 2 weeks. Are there plans for the medical students to be able to volunteer, or gain clinical experience and patient contact under preceptors at these locations?

I may be incorrect, but I believe the class that graduated was not a full 120 class. I'm not sure how many actually graduated but I think the past two incoming classes were the first to be a full 120.

I'm not sure what percentage matched, but it isn't 74/120.

Edit: yeah I'm not sure what exactly the unmatched graduates do but I read an article saying 74/80 seniors matched.

I do expect that some students would be able to do some things here, but this would not be something for the majority of our students considering the long list of other clinical options available. Because this clinic is new I would expect that they would have to grow a patient census so that students would have a solid experience. This may not take too long.

I have a question about traffic rules. I am holding multiple acceptances right now. If I withdraw my acceptance from a school today, will all the other schools that accepted me know that I have withdrawn? Thank you.

They will know the day after you withdraw IF they check the AAMC site every day. With all that is going on I suspect that, like us, programs don't check the site every day. We check once per week normally on Tuesday or Wednesday. That allow for programs to catch up from weekend transactions. Now one more thing to consider is that some programs do not enter WD's immediately upon receipt, so there may be a delay of a day or two before it is entered into the AAMC site by the program that you withdrew from. We will normally enter all transactions immediately so that other programs have the latest info ASAP.
